Mantra Twin Towns Coolangatta has garnered a reputation for cleanliness and a prime location near the beach and local amenities, which guests find highly convenient. However, the hotel's rooms and decor are often described as outdated and in need of refurbishment, with some guests also expressing dissatisfaction with the value, citing high prices for the experience offered. While the service receives mixed reviews, with commendations for staff friendliness contrasting with reports of disorganization, the overall atmosphere maintains a nostalgic charm for those who appreciate it.

Had a 2 night stay in a Studio Room (528). Room was nearly $300 per night.

Have stayed in various Mantra’s & that is why I chose the place to spend our wedding anniversary.

Nice view of the harbour. Room was on the smaller size but suited a couple. Room included 2 single beds combined to make a large double bed. Facilities – sink, kettle, toaster, microwave, TV, small stereo system, bar fridge & Balcony

Pro’s – One street back from the beach, plenty of restaurants & cafes within walking distance, walkway connection through to Twin Towns Services Club, shopping centre within walking distance. Room was a bit dated but ok.

Cons – Shower area had black mould growing around the edging on the floor & throughout the grout. This mould had been growing for some time. Complementary body soap & shampoo dispensers (bottles) in shower were empty. I advised reception on our way out to an early breakfast & was advised that it would be taken care of first thing. On returning to out room at lunch time the cleaners had just finished cleaning our room. To our disappointment the shower has not been touched & dispensers not refilled. I found the cleaners & advised that I had spoken to reception & what they had advised. The cleaner returned after sometime & cleaned the shower with some type of chemical (smelt like domestos) but did not wash the chemical off. The chemical smell filled our room fairly quickly. Most of the mould was removed. The dispensers where another issue, the cleaner had to call for a staff member with a key to open the security on the dispenser to replace the bottles. This was done with little fuss.

All in all I was disappointed with the room because of the shower mould & as paying a fair price for the room would expect there would be no mould growing in the shower.

Recommend that the managers do random checks of the cleaning of the rooms especially in places like the showers.

My room was very clean, new and the beds and linen very comfortable for the price I paid peak season was exceptional value for money. I booked a superior one bedroom Seaview apartment. I can’t fault the cleanliness.
If you are looking to check in early at peak season this won’t happen, it’s busy, large and services the Sebel also.
This place has two towers, so the mantra building itself you won’t get street access from your apartment, you have to walk a fair way to access the main doors. Once you check in and know where your car is you can transition straight to that car park from the lifts but there is a bit of walk if your walking our the door. The pool can be used by both towers and neighbouring properties. We haven’t wanted to swim there due to how busy it is in peak time and with beaches only a street away it’s nicer there but that can be expected.
The adjoining properties get their bins collected every night at 4.30am this noise lasts for 10 minutes and will wake you up, I did speak to the reception on this but it’s a highly noted issue that they cannot sort out with the NSW side so that’s just something that really should be noted. It’s extremely loud and we are on floor 10 you will wake up. Other than that rooms are quiet and peaceful.
Aside from that the staff are pleasant and helpful and if you book the same room very clean. We were on 1043.

We arrived quite early and we were very happy that a room was available straight away , so we checked in and went to our room. Unfortunately the room was quite dank and smelled of cleaning agent. It wasn't until were removed our shoes that we found the carpet was quite damp. Apparently it had been steam cleaned.

Also, the air con had a recurring fault causing it to show a fault code and beep regularly, despite all doors being closed securely.

We contacted staff who arranged a room change which had us packing up carting our luggage back to to reception, queuing up again to get the new room cards and than go back to another floor.

The staff I will add were very helpful, no problem at all with them.

I do have a problem with internal processes where they can sell a room that is clearly not fit for occupation.

Our new room a few floors up was much better, but it had a few maintenance problems with lights that did not work.

The bedding was quite comfortable and the shower was great. Nice view from the balcony. The rooms are quite well equipped for a hotel room, with utensils, microwave, sink etc.

I'm not sure if management read these reviews or not, but the checking in process seems awfully slow despite staff's best efforts.

It's a big hotel and 3 front desk staff are clearly insufficient at peak times. With large numbers of guests and such slow check in, people wanting to ask for stored baggage, other simple quick enquiries, or in our case a simple room change, wait for a considerable time.

It was clear many guests were very frustrated with the processes. Staff trying to be polite, attended people bypassing the queue approaching the desk from the side increased the frustration for those doing the right thing.

A concierge or separate desk that could handle baggage checks and other quick enquiries would be of great help. A streamlined check in procedure would also help. Also, the requirement of double swiping your credit card in this day seems excessive.

Overall we enjoyed our stay, but the room issues were annoying and avoidable. The long queues for front desk assistance were frustrating.

We have stayed at many Mantra hotels. Prior to booking our 2 night stay, at Tweed Heads, I rang and spoke to Duty Manager, Gordon. He was very helpful when I explained that I have back issues and require a supportive, non saggy mattress. I also followed up with emails regarding this request. I was reassured that they would do their best to help and if I had any issues with the bed to contact reception and they would do whatever they could to help even if that meant changing rooms or mattresses.
Upon checking in I mentioned this again to Anesu on reception (Gordon was not on duty) who confirmed that there was a note on my booking regarding the bed. He reassured me that if the mattress was not comfortable I was to let them know and they would help to rectify the problem.
As soon as we got to our room (a nice one bedroom apartment) I tried the bed immediately. Unfortunately, the mattress was old and very unsupportive and saggy. I rang reception and spoke to Anesu. I explained that I had an email trail requiring a comfortable mattress and that the one in the room was unsuitable and could he help? He went and checked with the Duty Manager. When Anesu returned to the phone he informed me that the Duty Manager said "this is what you will get when you stay at the Mantra, if you want a better mattress you need to pay more money and stay at The Sebel". "You can have a different topper on the bed if you want". How the heck does a different topper help the saggy mattress underneath it? I was shocked to say the least. So, obviously paying $350 per night does NOT entitle you to a comfortable bed!! If the room was much, much cheaper and 3 star I guess I could understand his attitude (maybe) but at $350 per night in a 4 star hotel surely you are entitled to a decent bed. I'm really disappointed in the elitist attitude of the staff. Warning: if you want a bed that doesn't cause back pain be prepared to pay over $500 a night at The Sebel as $350 seems to be for "the cheap seats" only. I'm bitterly disappointed in the Mantra over this. My husband ended up rotating the mattress himself to see if it made any difference. Unfortunately it did not. I tried to do the right thing, I rang and checked about the beds even before making the booking. As we'll be doing extensive travelling from next year, I had hoped to establish with one brand, Mantra, so I would know I was getting good service. How disappointing after our Tweed Heads stay and the arrogant attitude of Management.

At Christmas 2022, My wife, her sister and myself stayed in a two bedroom/two bathroom unit at the Mantra Twin Towns. We were largely happy with our stay. Over the same period in 2023, we decided to come again and “ujpgrade” to a PENTHOUJSE. Never having had one before, we expected it to be a long way superior to the 2022 unit. We were disappointed.
PROS - The penthouse, (no 1535) was large. The beds were very comfortable and the views spectacular. The wifi was excellent.
CONS. . The carpets were frayed around almost all the edges setting the tone for general cleanliness which bordered on being unacceptable. Specifically, the shampoo/shower pumped supplies were so watery as to be useless. One shower leaked water at the gap between the door and the fixed panel. It made us (old with challenged balance) feel unsteady on our feet. The clear shower glass looked almost translucent due to deposits from the water. The cutlery was similarly discoloured and cooking utensils were not sparkling clean. The dining table and chairs were old and knocked around. The bed/settee and two armless lounge chairs were not comfortable. Overall, the unit was vastly overpriced at an average of $600+ per night for the standard of cleanliness, furnishings, fixtures, fittings and materials supplied. None of this would have bothered us greatly if the pricing had been right

This hotel is in a great location, across the road from the restaurants and beach in Coolangatta. We chose to stay here because of the location (fully in NSW) and its affordability. The foyer and Ocean Tower appear to have been updated with more modern furnishings. Lifts and rooms in the Harbour Tower, where we stayed, needed an update however were still clean and comfortable. Appliances seemed cheap and old, but were functional. Be aware the one bedroom apartment has a glass screen between the bedroom and bathroom - there was a blind for more privacy but this may not be suitable for travellers other than couples. It also seems housekeeping services have been postponed due to the pandemic, and due to staffing shortages, we had to walk to reception to get fresh towels and toilet rolls.

Note that the lifts to rooms in the Harbour Tower are also around the back of the hotel, so it is a bit of a longer walk to the lobby and out of the hotel, and the lifts are not in the lobby like the lifts for the Ocean Tower. This made me feel as though we were the 'poorer' guests, having chosen a cheaper room in the HT - not a huge issue but it does contribute to the experience.

Parking is free and many spaces were available each day we returned. Be aware that there is a QLD border checkpoint right outside the hotel at the moment, so there is some traffic around.

We enjoyed the space in the One Bedroom Apartment where we easily catered for ourselves. Enjoyed the relaxing views from our balcony. There were two flat screen TVs. Apparently it has Foxtel but never used it since we had our own streaming device hooked into HDMI. Made good use of the high speed internet. Kitchen included dishwasher, stovetop/oven, microwave, refrigerator, toaster, kettle with complimentary coffee sachets & tea bags. Ensuite was furnished with large bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The air conditioning worked really well even during the hottest days. The only issue we had was the shower would leak because of a missing door guard and the mop that was provided was badly needed of a new sponge and when you used it debris would spread all over the tiled floor. Parking is free and plenty of spaces available in the underground carpark. As we checked in early we made good use of the buffet breakfast at Signatures and used the pool afterwards before our room was ready. Would definitely come back again.

We have stayed here before and were happy to return again after more than 18 months - we were pleased to see it is still great for so many reasons.
Renovated rooms are tasteful and spacious, little touches like lighting in the bathroom and beside the beds may go unnoticed but they have put a lot of though into what they have done. The TV set up is great too and we loved the artwork.
Buffet breakfast still works even with the Covid restrictions, it may even be better as no one else gets to touch the food except the kitchen staff so its probably more hygenic
Staff are helpful, cheerful and dedicated to keeping you safe by making sure you follow the latest health requirements.
And of course the location is a block from the beautiful Coolangatta beach, then you get to come back and lounge by the pool which is always a good alternative.

Pro's: Great location, didn't need to use the car all week as everything is in walking distance.
Rooms were spacious and included everything we needed. Although an extra washing up , laundry detergent and bin bags wouldn't have gone astray.
indoor and outdoor Pool was well tempered and clean
Breakfast buffet was delicious and satisfying
Checkin and checkout swift and without issue
Con's
Spa near the main pool by the end of the week looks quite uninviting, green and cloudy.
BBQ near the mini golf course was out of order for our entire stay.
Indoor pool was out of order for 2 days of ours stay citing contamination
Sauna was unavailable for 5 days of our stay.
Were a bit strict on the pool towel policy but from what I heard it because a lot went missing.

Don’t be influenced by the glitz and glammer on the website. This hotel is in desperate need of a make over and whilst the views from the back tower are quite pleasant, the rooms are far more ‘pub’ like than hotel!
The bathrooms are not well maintained, the walls heavily marked and the beds!?! The 2 bedroom apartment was ample in size with a relatively functional layout out, however the beds are 2 singles, zipped together with a hard plastic zipper and nothing over them, other than a covering sheet. May as well have kept them as single beds as there was no benefit in zipping them, other than to cause an uncomfortable evening if you rolled onto the zip.
There is nothing on the bed, other than a bottom sheet and a top sheet! No covering - doona, quilt etc. We managed to find a blanket in the cupboard that was like an old piece of wool carpet, that you certainly did not want touching you!
There is ample parking and if you are one for playing pokies, there are more of these than people - so maybe that is the appeal for some!
Definitely not to the standard of the many Mantra’s I have stayed in.
