My hubby booked a weekend away at the last minute and this place was pretty much the only one with availability. It was a little expensive, but you can understand why as it is seasonable. The room was dated and tiny, but comfortable. The hosts were lovely, friendly and really great to chat to. The complimentary breakfast was simple but hearty - a good start for the day. Thredbo itself, is a delight. A close community feel with lots to do and great places to eat. For a quick and delicious meal, you can’t go past the burger place. There are lots of other restaurants within walking distance which I love! At home we drive everywhere, but in Thredbo, we walked everywhere as everything is pretty much within walking distance. It is not my first visit and we will definitely be back.
Alpenhorn delivered on all fronts. Warm, comfortable and clean with a buffet breakfast. Rooms are a little small but we were able to use the communal dining/living areas which made up for the lack of space in our sleeping quarters.
I’m unsure about our stay. Family of 5, kids 2-7. Very friendly staff, when a bed wasn’t prepared for my third child per the booking they came up and made this without any trouble. Breakfast was nice, bacon/eggs/toast/baked beans/ cereal each day. We had a lot of snow and rain during our stay. We were told to put clothes and boots in the frying room and take gloves to our room to dry. They next day our clothes in the drying room were just about as wet as they were the day before. We learnt the room is on a timer so if you come in about 5pm the heater is on only till 7pm - so 2 hours before you leave the next day. Our second day was raining so we skied with already wet clothes in pouring rain. If you want any of your stuff to dry then you need to take it to your room. Get the oil heater out of the cupboard. Hang all your clothes on the hooks in the bathroom and also use the coat hangers. Put the oil heater in the bathroom and shut the door for the night. About half way though the night rotate your clothes and turn inside out if you need. All your other things like gloves, googles, helmets need to be on the heater. Note room heaters also turn off during the night (at least ours did). Perhaps bring your own clothes rack to dry stuff on. We also found that our 5 towels didn’t dry due to the heaters being on a timer. I decided to leave the oil heater on all day to try to dry our towels for the night when we got home. The book in house states there’s meals available and that they are licensed for a drink at the end of the day but I didn’t see this during our stay? this is the most we have ever spent on accomodation and I have to say that other than friendly staff I think I’ll go back to cheaper places around Thredbo village. They nay not have breaky or drying rooms but hey I ended up having to be creative with my drying anyway. Not sure what my extra money paid for. Oh and I also didn’t find the kettle until check out. I was hanging for a cuppa and just saw the empty benches. I checked all the cupboards at check out and found it. Would be easier if it was left on the bench like usual.…
Alpenhorn Lodge is situated on the high & south side of Thredbo village. This is a nice looking lodge inside & out. Host was excellent. The room and ensuite was a decent size, some storage available for clothes, small fridge, heater and TV. Our corner room had excellent views. Bed was 2 singles pushed together and ok for comfort, quiet as we had the lodge to ourselves, for most of the time. Breakfast was included and it was great. No car parking- if required you must park at the village which is approx 300m away and 5 to 10 min walk uphill. Village center, pub, chairlift, Golf course & hiking trails are a 10min easy pace walk away.
Stayed here for two nights with a mate and his son. Cass and her partner do a great job of ensuring you are made to feel welcome from the get go with nothing seemingly too much to ask of them. The rooms were clean and waking up in room 106 with mountain views was pretty special. Whilst the bathroom was on the small side it served its purpose and the breakfast whilst basic also did the job. Would definitely return as value for money it was a great experience.
