We went into a smelly room that really I should have asked for my money back then but it was late, I was tired, the linen hasn't been changed from the last person who stayed in the bed, I hate to think how many people have been in the bed before us, I itched all night, the bathroom towels were stained and I had to flush a ants nest down the drain before my shower, after that walked on the whitish tiles and my feet were sticking to the floor, after a few minutes I looked at my soles of my feet to find in disbelief they were black, the fridge had black something growing in it,no tea or coffee but I wouldn't have used a cup anyhow,, we had a broken outside door light above my car and on further inspection fibro was broken under the eaves and a good bet it's asbestos based, never ever ever will I stay there again, I will sleep in my car next time, not that we got much sleep from the wonderfully placed 4 lanes of road and roundabout at the rooms door and scenic view to the 7eleven,, and as for the deadlocked room , someone was in there all night, maybe a homeless person or a real guest,,
I really think the rooms get rented out in 1 hour increments to locals if you get my drift...
Unhygienic - bathroom not clean , hair in shower globules of green mucus in the sink .
Uninviting- dark, smelly , dingy , dirty , old rooms very basic sheets /quilts not clean.
Unprofessional - rude , intoxicated receptionist , dis organised , unhelpful verbally abusive and intimidating . Refused to give refund .
Don't ever stay here ! Sleep in your car as an alternative . So glad we got out unharmed!!!!
My family and I booked the place about a week beforehand at lastminute.com.au. The first let-down occurred as soon as we left home -- we got a call saying our room was unavailable and we had been downgraded to a smaller room. I’ll list the rest of the reasons as to why this place was atrocious:
- After arriving, my first impression was how incredibly poor and dirty the entire resort looked from the outside; nothing like the photos they posted online. Despite its deceptive name, ‘Reef Resort’, and that it was advertised as a ‘hotel’ online, it was a motel and there was no evidence of any ‘resort’ features.
- We went into reception to be greeted by a crabby and unapologetic old lady, who demanded to know the ages of my children before showing us to our downgraded room. She also demanded that we hand over our receipt as soon as we arrived.
- Entering our room, I was overwhelmed by the smell of pungent body odour (like sweaty, dirty feet). Everything smelt like it hadn’t ever been washed, and that it had instead been sprayed with some sort of perfume or air freshener between stays to mask the stenches left behind by past occupants.
- The furniture was extremely poor: a light bulb had been stolen from one of the lamps and the single window didn’t even open (and at one point, the curtain rail randomly fell). At night, we obviously couldn’t just sleep with the door wide open, so it was impossibly stuffy.
- The ridiculously small television was impossible to watch, as both sound and audio frequently cut out for several seconds at a time.
- We were told there would be two single beds and a double bed: all beds were covered in smelly old blankets with juvenile fish prints on them.
- The single beds were simply an old and rickety bunk bed tucked behind the door. Every time there was any movement on either bunk, the entire structure would shake precariously.
- At one point, my son accidentally nudged a wall light next to the top bunk, and the glass jar around the light immediately came crashing down, only just missing my son.
- The ‘double bed’ consisted of two mattresses stacked on top of one another.
- We’d originally booked a place with a kitchenette, and brought food to cook. Because of our downgrade, we had no stove or even sink in the kitchen – we had to wash all dishes and cutlery in the bathroom.
- The cutlery provided by the motel appeared to be unwashed and covered in food stains from previous uses.
- A single power socket had to be shared between the microwave and the refrigerator (altogether, I think there were just four or five sockets in the entire room, including the kitchen).
- The ‘dining area’ listed online consisted of a very small table (perhaps a metre in diameter) crammed into a corner.
- The bathroom was also dirty and smelly, particularly the towels. The toilet paper was coarse, yellow and cheap. The bathroom and the kitchen were right next to one another, both sharing grubby brown tiles, and the bathroom door didn’t even have a lock.
- Online, the Reef Resort advertised that there was ‘Wi-fi / Wireless’ available. We asked the lady at reception about it, and she handed over a piece of paper with a telephone number to call to purchase credit to use wireless internet. It was utterly misleading and deceptive – nobody expects ‘available Wi-Fi’ refers to Wi-Fi which must be paid for. We’d depended on having Wi-Fi to access our home surveillance system, so this was another huge let-down.
- Right outside of our room, others staying at the motel smoked and drank (as early as around 4pm) without regard for the presence of young children.
- The ‘outdoor pool’ advertised online turned out to be a dirty, uncovered pool littered with leaves and rubbish.
- The ‘hot spa’ advertised to be used by motel guests did not even contain any water (others have said that there’s a $10 fee to use it, but it wasn’t even available during our stay).
- Other things they advertised, including the ‘barbeque area’, ‘guest kitchen’ and ‘fitness centre’, were so dirty and unused by any of the motel customers that they were covered in cobwebs.
- The ‘dining area’ for guests wasn’t even accessible (the door was kept locked).
- It was almost impossible to sleep due to the proximity of the hotel to the road outside, and any effort made to block out the noises from the roaring traffic outside from hotel customers failed. The claim on lastminute.com.au that our stay at the Reef Resort would be ‘comfortable and quiet’ is completely false. I got up to two hours' sleep the first night.
Without a doubt, this motel is the worst of all possible choices of places to stay at in The Entrance. The service is poor and the place is overpriced, dirty, smelly, loud, disruptive and deceptive. This is the type of place you pay to stay away from. I apologise for writing such a long review, but if you’ve taken the effort to read it all, please heed my advice and do not ever stay at this abysmal motel.
Owners rude
This is the worst place i ever stayed in my life.
We paid so much money to stay there which wasnt even worth it.
The rooms were dirty anf our room had moulds even the smell was left on our clothes etc.
The staff was so rude towards my mum.
They provide no service at all they go into ur room for no reason saying that they are cleaning!
They have all these rules about the room which they dont state before you make a booking it was listed inside the room.
Top floors aircon was leaking the water was dripping on us.
Its such an dirty place to stay.
I took pictures of every single thing.
Upon arrival of the 2nd day when we went to get our money back for the first night the staff attempted to charge us a greater price for the second night, as we were now staying one night instead of 2 and the price for 1 night is more. It isn't our fault that they couldn't provide the advertised rooms. This was the first attempted scam.
When we got to the room all the beds had sand on them and some even had bits of melted chocolate stuck to the sheets! It was like they hadn't even been cleaned! On top of that there were cockroaches inside the cupboards in our room! It was not a clean room in any way!
Upon our check out (we were late to checkout which carries a $22 late checkout fee) the receptionist told us that her staff told her we would be staying another night so we would have to pay for another night even if we weren't staying! This was the 2nd attempted scam.
Overall The Entrance Reef Resort has horrible online booking methods, extremely unfriendly staff, very unclean and unhygienic rooms and they try to get as much money from you as they can! I highly recommend not staying at or even considering booking accomodation here.
TL;DR (too long; didn't read) : Couldn't provide advertised accomodation, unclean bed sheets, cockroaches in cupboards, attempted money scamming. If possible avoid at all costs.
Stayed in room 6
Included basic tea, coffee, toaster, jug
I found the bed quite hard and uncomfortable and the quilt had cigarette burns, only 2 pillows provided which had near no stuffing and sand on the top of the bed.
Missing light bulbs in a few of the lights and none at all in bedside lamps.
The room is dark even with curtains open
The noise from the above room was terrible till after midnight, banging and thumping.
The bathroom was clean. The floor tiles are very slippery from the bathroom to the room so make sure your feet are 100% dry.
Even with double windows you still experience noisy traffic.
I always take my own hair dryer but because it throws so much heat so I always check for smoke alarms and be careful to not set them off, guess what there was no smoke alarm only the base part on the ceiling the rest was missing, this is a huge safely risk and not acceptable in this day and age.
Reasonably close to everything.
Overall it's ok for a one nighter but very basic
The next time we want to stay in the Entrance I would probably book elsewhere.
