Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great spot! Stunning views from verandah & balcony. Nice atmosphere. Good pub meal. Nice room with ocean view. Lovely shower. Comfy bed. A bit pricey. $320 a night. No air conditioning, just a fan. Luckily it wasn’t hot weather. No lift to room for guests.

These new oceanfront rooms are fabulous. There was not a thing I would change if I was designing them myself. The bed and pillows were divine. The colour scheme was calm and fresh. Even the soap in the shower was delightful (not like that stinky lemongrass garbage that other hotels use that doesn't clean anything!). The view to the ocean was mesmerising from our bed and the ceiling fan kept the temp right without having to use aircon which made for a blissful sleep. The bar and bistro in the same building wasn't at all noisy and the food and wine was delicious and good price. I wish I could have stayed for a week. It was pretty close to the perfect getaway.

If I could give it a zero I would. The staff could not have been less interested. We arrived at six pm and they were stacking chairs on tables around us by seven forty five. We were not the only ones in the place mind you. There were five of us in total and two of us still had a glass of wine left at eight ten so another two at the table went to the bar for be glass of wine each to finish the night off. They were told “ No, the bar is closed, we asked you if you wanted a drink”. NO YOU DIDN’T you came to the table and said “would you like coffee or dessert?”. That is NOT would you like anything from the bar because it’s closing. And I reiterate IT WAS EIGHT TEN!! I will point out that nothing was said by us at this point. The manager then started stacking chairs on tables directly behind us then turned to us and said “we’re closing you know”. By this point I was beyond being polite and said “really? We wouldn’t have known by the way you’re packing up around us!!”. We got up to leave and not being able to help bring a smart ass I thanked the staff for a wonderful night and wonderful service. Then waited out front for a lift home (8.45 pm) late night!! The manager came to door and I gave him the FU which he promptly returned. Honestly.. this place is an absolute joke as a hospitality venue. And the food was below average to boot.

Nice fresh room, well designed. Killer views over the ocean. 7am wake up thanks to the excavators on the site next door. Funny temperature control - none visible but very drying. Clean bed, lumpy mattress. Comfortable room overall, chic. Recommend.

On a recent road trip on the south coast, we called in to the Tathra Hotel for lunch. From our observation, this Hotel has been recently modernised and is looking good. We had a nice window seat overlooking the play area and clifftop ocean view. There was a large selection on the lunch menu. We chose the Prawn Bowl, which consisted of large fresh prawns, crusty bread and salad, and the Fish and Chips with grilled fish of the day, which was well cooked and tasty. We were served in a prompt and friendly manner by the wait staff. We would certainly revisit if in the area again.

The room was incredible as was the view, however we stayed in Mid February and it was warm but not overly hot. Our room was extremely hot and the ceiling fan did little to help. It was so hot at night that it was difficult to sleep. Would have been a 10 out of 10 experience if the room was air conditioned.

We stayed for one night in the newly renovated section of the hotel on our way up the coast. The room was very nicely renovated BUT it was uncomfortably warm and the ceiling fan while helpful was woefully inadequate. The day had been warm probably 30+ degrees but we were left thinking how we would have slept if the day had been any hotter. The lack of air conditioning may have been done for environmental reasons but at $265 for the night I think you should be able to have a comfortable nights sleep. Unfortunately we didn’t. We did have a nice meal downstairs in the pub but we certainly won’t be staying there next time we are in Tathra.

Fantastic renovation with plenty of space for everyone to enjoy the food and views. We even saw some breaching whales very close to shore from their beer garden. Unfortunately we arrived at 2.01 and lunch was finished. Communication was not great as there were pizzas being available to order within the following hour but this message was not conveyed to us.

Beautiful historic hotel set up on the high side of town. Families, friends, couples all welcome. You can sit outside on the large deck or sit inside to whale watch n rake in the great views. Food n service was great. The menu had alot to choose from n slightly on the higher price end but worth the $$ for the ambiance, delicious meals n added bonus of watching whales play out at sea. Book a table as it gets very busy.
