Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed at this motel after visiting the Hunter Valley Gardens Christmas Lights Spectacular.

Motel was easy to find with plenty of parking. Staff were friendly. Room was basic but had everything we needed and the beds were ok.

Kids enjoyed swimming in the pool which also had floaties and pool noodles for the kids.

Room included free breakfast consisting of toast, cereal, juice, yoghurt, and tea/coffee/hot chocolate.

For $130, it was a great choice for a budget overnighter!

Stayed for an overnight business trip and also ate at the restaurant. The entire place is very dated, including the restaurant.
Staff at reception were not very friendly or welcoming.
The rooms were clean and a good size and the bed was comfortable. I did find it to be quite noisy very early in the morning with people leaving thru an exit door that was constantly banging closed. Despite being on a busy highway I didnt notice any traffic noise however.
There's plenty of free parking.
Its not close to town on foot but its a short drive.
The restaurant has a reasonable menu and the schnitzel we ordered was quite nice although the presentation on the plate wasn't the best. Pretty mediocre salad. The staff in here were very friendly but strangely they didn't have a charge back to room facility.

This hotel (motel?) definately would have been a cut above average when built (1980s?). It does have a more grand vibe than the average country motel however it's now rather tired. Staff friendly. Restaurant quite good. Breakfast allegedly included but is actually $20 if you want anything other than toast (staff member supervising unauthorised access to the buffet). The breakfast thing was misleading and cheap. Oh well.

Having just spent two nights at the Charbonnier Motel in Singleton, we had a little trepidation about what to expect with some of the previous negative reviews. I can only say I give the motel five stars. From the moment we walked into the reception, we were greeted by a friendly, smiling young woman who checked us into room 101. Our room was on the ground floor, the bathroom was clean, and the shower pressure was powerful. The bed was comfortable, and we were happy with the room experience. A continental breakfast was provided, and I had read many disgruntled comments about its sparseness. There was fruit, juices, coffee, tea, bread for toasting, various cereals and yoghurts. One thing I had never seen in a continental buffet breakfast was small tins of baked beans and the option to heat them in the microwave. There isn't much more to add to a Motel continental breakfast except for maybe croissants or pastries; this is a motel, not a hotel.
"We had a fantastic time during our two-night break in the Hunter Valley. The customer service, especially from the young woman at the reception was top-notch. We couldn't have asked for anything more. I would highly recommend this motel to anyone staying in Singleton."

If you’ve updated your car forget about this place. Obviously the owner is here is anti EV. They try to overcharge for their EV facilities, but putting the price up over 10 times what it should be, remember other accommodation offers as a complementary service.. the worst part is the absolute arrogant nature of whoever replies to their Google reviews. They are an “expert” on how your car works, obviously, they’ve never owned one. They are convinced that if you charge something you’re staying there, it’ll somehow damage their electrical system, I wonder if that applies to other electrical appliances like laptops or phones. Some people should not be in the hospitality business. What a disappointment. It’s a shame because although it’s old it’s not too bad. Maybe they could bring back the old Manager?

Thank you for you second one star review about the same situation. As previously stated we can not allow you to plug your car in with your cable, which wasn't tested, as this might be faulty and could cause severe damage to the hotel and guests. We are absolutely not EV haters and have been looking into getting a charging station. Thanks.

Oh dear what can I say. This hotel was probably a good property years ago, but I fear it is decaying more quickly than it can be saved. It's old, it's tired and it's the type of hotel that leaves you wondering about cleanliness. It smells musty, the paint is old and outdated, and the rooms very tired, dripping tap, grubby tiles etc etc. the cover on the bed didn't look like it had been washed in years - imagine what it has seen (ugh).
I know country towns have a certain type of hotel property, but there is never an excuse for a lack of cleanliness and this hotel just doesn't feel clean. There are better options in Singleton.

Our room was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and very quiet, no noise from the busy road out front. The staff both in the motel and restaurant were professional yet very friendly and warm. Dinner was delicious with generous portion sizes and, not surprisingly since it is the Hunter, local wine which was lovely. I'd happily stay here again and highly recommend if you're looking for accommodation in Singleton.

We (couple in early 70s) stayed one night mid trip from Bathurst north) in June 2022.

Location and price point were fine. The room was roomy, clean and most adequate. Reception and attentiveness of staff were good.

An internet search shows limited dining in Singleton, but there is no need to go elsewhere. The on-site restaurant deserved a bigger crowd. As other reviews have noted, the beef cheeks are to die for.

Our room was highway side, but the traffic noise was a non-problem We skipped the motal continental brekkie to eat at the nearby visitor centre.

If you stay make sure you avoid the older lady on the desk. Very unfriendly, filthy language, rude to staff, heard her yell at staff and swear at them in the hallway. Felt embarrassed for the young girl at reception trying her best. On check out not any better. Almost seemed relieved people were leaving and saw her tear strips off the old man in the office, swearing and being rude.
Won’t stay here again, maybe in the future if this lady isn’t there, seems like she doesn’t know anything about hospitality.

I regularly stay at The Charbonnier Motel, and everytime to go with the excellent rooms, the meals are absolutely perfect. Whether its in the restaurant, with the friendly wait staff, or delivered to the room, the meals are always well presented, hot and bloody delicious. Highly recommend.

********************Worst place I have ever come across************** WARNING WARNING WARNING READ THE REVIEWS!!!!!!! ****************THEY STALK YOU TRYING TO FIND OUT WHERE YOU WORK, THEN THREATEN TO TELL YOUR BOSS LIES ABOUT YOU. ***************** STILL WAITING YOU TO RETURN THE MONEY YOU TOOK FROM MY CREDIT CARD. $460 plus THE $150 from the day I walked out after an hour . I felt discriminated against. If you or anybody you know is called Karen, this will be used against you in an attempt to degrade you. When you say I have been emailed about “ongoing actions”, are you referring to the threats you made about sending the police to me because I left a review?.. You think leaving a review is illegal?. If you believe leaving reviews are illegal you should probably sue Google and TripAdvisor! … Needs a health inspector and a health/safety inspection. DO NOT STAY HERE, I COULD SMELL THE MOULD FOR DAYS LATER… Happy to be contacted for more details. The Francis Phillip motel is just a bit up the road. Beautiful clean rooms. The beds don’t stink. The food is delicious. The staff are not threatening. The Quest is also beautiful and welcoming. Have a look at all the reviews and see the pattern of behaviour with this manager. He seems to like to accuse the guest of lying when they have any issues. His behaviour is outrageous. He took money from my bank without my consent. I canceled my stay because of the whole ordeal. Wouldn’t surprise me if the good feedback given is by friends, absolutely no way anyone in their right mind would be happy paying to dollar for this disgusting establishment. Also check out the reviews on TRIPADVISOR . Your reply to my review is a joke. Accusing me of being a bully. This is NARCISSISTIC behaviour. ! I’m looking forward to my move to Singleton so I can let all my clients know about this place.

As a follow up to this, this guest decided to take us to small claims court. It was found we, as a property, had no case to answer as we followed policies at each step. In fact 3 offers of goodwill to return one night fee back was refused as this guest thought they would have received the full refund back. What this shows is the guest is not always right and at times accommodation houses get guests with a huge ego, and the property treated like animals by guests like this one. This is not a brag but the fact when policies are followed, goodwill gestures offered and refused, and still get treated horribly by a guest who has a ego problem and a self entitlement problem. Thanks!
