Restaurant is acceptable but not great. Breakfast was just OK with a limited selection, but no better or worse than other motels in the area i have tried.
TV was small for the spacious living room.
Refrigerator rattled.
The rooms are very spacious, if somewhat sparsely decorated. In saying that, everything was clean, neat and tidy. So, from that perspective, there's not much else that you want for an overnight stay for business really.
I quite liked the touch of a recliner rocker to sit and watch the TV - not that I'm much of a TV person, but it was a more comfortable option than your typical, hard cushioned motel sofa.
Breakfast in the morning was served in the main dining room - the usual selection of continental or hot breakfast options, except that hot was "fresh" hot and made to order. It was a nice alternative to the usual hot breakfast option that has been laying around in a bain-marie.
The road noise from the New England Highway can be a little constant if you are a light sleeper, even through the night. I noticed it a little, but I couldn't say it disturbed me - it was more like I noticed it if I woke in the night, rather than it being the cause of me waking up.
I quite liked the cover car park - it is a massive sail spanning the two motel buildings. It helped to keep the heat out of the rooms, and the car as well.
All in all, a pleasant, comfortable place to stay in Singleton.
Food!!!!! Steak sandwich $24.00 ordered medium got blood and was charged $8.00 for room service. Cap it all off with the CC surcharge.
Go another half hour to Maitland for better value as Muswellbrook is just as expensive.
The staff (mostly the owner) are agressive and extremely rude. Quoted prices were not met and my stay ended up having to be pursued through Fair Trading...
Never stay at this hotel, if you need to stay in Singleton the Mid City is fine, or the Hunter Valley wone area is not fay away ...
The room: I stayed in a large but quite plain room which I would rate no more than 2 and a half stars. Cost was $130 night. The curtains did not block out the exterior lights - so was hard to get off to sleep; there was excessive intrusion of noise from adjacent and above rooms, and from the highway; I found 2 cockroaches in the bathroom; the main door rattled in the breeze; the lighting was poor, and no action was taken to replace a key burned out lamp when I requested it on the first morning.
Service: Breakfast is overpriced and lacking price band options-($18 for 'continental'); Has the usual huge mark up of phone charges; and wifi internet cost $15 for 24 hrs of access (Note that it's free at the very nice Singleton public library). The Francis Phillip also has a very aggressive, short-fused, and rude owner/manager - who is clearly not coping, and is best avoided.
Summary: his place is best avoided if you are staying in Singleton for more than one night. Its over priced and over rated. I wouldn't stay there again because, especially given the bad temper of the manager.
