What a great few days we had, time to digital detox and just enjoy time with each other. We booked Tiny house and was shown the way by the lovely Chantel - process simple easy and friendly. Tiny house is tiny, suited myself & son, beds comfy but due to the mobile air/heater not much room for your bags. modern clean & had all we needed. We enjoyed being city folk trying to light a decent fire. We were located with a nice walk to the playground and Dining Hall. I was so happy not to have to cook, meals were delicious and served promptly, with the team happy to help and serve. service with a smile. Meals are all the same, kids smaller, and served promptly, food was great, (if you're after Arty Farty million $$ lobster, stay elsewhere,) we were really happy with all meals. Sadly due to Covid, no tractor rides, but we did use our legs & walk to the animals, We enjoyed feeding the animals & pony rides. The nights were cold, our tiny house had plenty of blankets, but we needed the heater over night, the mobile aircon/heater sounded like a jumbo jet, and having to release water out of unit every 2hours, is annoying, we were grateful for the smaller heater and used it instead.
We had a wonderful time, and loved the space and all that the Farm Stay offered, special mention to the Tan dog, and her hilarious tennis action, I can't describe how funny she is, swapping sides for the serve, occasionally catching a ball, if you want to play tennis, expect a 4 legged "ball dog" at the net.

Hey Shellie, that was a great weekend for sure. You captured the essence of what a visit to our family farm should be, you engaged, sought out activities and soaked up all that we have to offer. I'm pleased you also recognised our food offer, much of what was offered comes from our own farm and surrounding farms, we're really into the food miles thing whilst accepting that we're not like a food specialist, simple done well is what we strive for. Hope you can make it back down here some time, stay safe and safe travels. By the way the dog is Pearl (my wife's dog) my dog is Archie he doesn't play as much tennis. Cheers.

We had a group of 10 adults and three kids aged 2,3 and 4 staying in Majellan Lodge for two nights. The accommodation worked well for our large group as we each had our own ensuite. Large lounge room, dining room and back deck with a bbq also suited us well. The farm activities were great and the kids were able to experience so much - feeding alpacas, donkeys, chickens, rabbits, collecting eggs, milking a cow, riding on a tractor, pony rides, cooking damper on a stick, cracking a whip and throwing a boomerang. Blair and Jacqui were so welcoming, friendly and informative as were Molly and Ella. They were all amazing with the kids and the kids didn’t want to go home! We also had a go at archery and took the canoes out. Lovely couple of days for a bunch of city slickers. Only an hour and a half from home was also very appealing. Would highly recommend.

Camping with amenities (toilet and showers) plus farm activities. 24 hour access. Horse riding available, canoeing available and archery. Would recommend camping especially for first time campers. Close to Sydney and close to local shops at Picton and Thirlmere. No powered camp sites available but numerous cabins to choose from.
Highly recommended we will be back to enjoy the farm again.

Had recently stayed in Mowbray Park farm on May 2011 with great disappointment.
1st there are a huge hygiene problem of bugs on the bed, me and my partner woke up with rash on our body.
2nd we took the all meals include package for A$356 per night (exclude 3% credit charge for international cards?) Guess what, we were ration with 1 half piece chick wings for lunch each person by crystal.
3rd the place do practices discrimination, where other Australian families were given as much as there can consumer for dinner and lunch.
Promise never stay there and do not wish others to be victims.

As trip Advisor advises us there are two sides to a story (sometimes more!) first and foremost it disappoints us that a guest had an experience here that didn’t meet expectations. The suggestion of intolerance comes as a surprise. Australia is clearly the most successful multi cultural community in the 21st century and we epitomise this. The diversity of guest on this farm is both extraordinary and humbling, a great source of energy. Our simple country meals are predominantly buffet so guests take some responsibility for servings. Bed bugs, the perennial favourite of the unhappy traveller I’m not even sure if it’s that widespread in this country at all, when visiting a farm you may discover that the myriad of animals you come in contact with the pastures you walk across etc are more likely to introduce you to something new. Farms are an experience unlike traditional holiday venues they promote participation. Overseas credit cards incur an additional processing cost, don’t take that out the venue if you travel you know this.

We spent two days and nights at Mowbray Park and it was wonderful. The management and staff make you feel so welcome and at home. The kids (9 & 10) absolutely love the farm and animals and all the activities on offer that you could wish for. Mowbray Park is a working farm and the opportunities to learn about looking after the environment and proper management of animals (while having so much fun) make this a unique and rewarding experience.
Highlights for us were the trail ride on the horses, the baby animal nursery, the hearty country cooking, damper and billy tea around the camp fire and the bush dance after dinner. The history of the farm and its buildings is fascinating and extensive.
The staff are excellent; friendly and helpful while being unobtrusive. The accommodation is basic, clean and comfortable – exactly how it should be on a farm. Mowbray Park is a breath of fresh air literally and metaphorically. It would be difficult to find a better value, more enjoyable destination for a family holiday or short break. We will definitely be back.

Hey Shane, was so good to catch up with guy's before you left , it really was the sort of weekend we enjoy as well. When people engage as you do it makes us all feel that what we do and how we go about it is resonating with people. Number one is to have fun with the kid's perhaps experience something that reminds you of your childhood? but if along the way we can talk about and demonstrate aspects of agriculture then why not it's important. Hope to see you again soon. Cheers Blair & the Mowbray gang.

We recently went to Mowbray for the weekend, which we were very excited about, but sadly the farmstay did not really live up to our expectations.
They were understaffed and the staff were clearly not very happy about this. The nursery visit was quite disappointing. Too many people and only one staff member showing everyone around. Little kids having to wait almost an hour to have a turn to milk a cow and more than an hour to have a 2 minute pony ride. Jasmine was rude and as a parent I really felt she overstepped the line when talking and trying to discipline the younger kids. Safety is one thing, but being rude to little kids, is something completely different. The food was average and the whole place could use a bit of a facelift.
A few positives were the playground, the billy tea and damper outing and the bush dance on the Saturday night - great entertainer!
Mowbray will definitely not see us again and I won't be recommending it to anyone I know unfortunately.

Hi Kristelle, whilst I was away the weekend you were here I am aware of your groups issues from the previous review. Much of what I said there applies although by way of explanation a group that did come in on the day was actually a last minute occurrence, they are a big customer of ours who were meant to be in mid-week for what ever reason they were delayed and arrived at a time we were busy. Having said that no one waits an hour for milking least of all the cow! The animal nursery is there for all to enjoy at whatever time suits families (not at night though) there is so much to do if there is a wait then go and do any of the many things at your disposal. At our debrief for end of holidays the team said they were pressed due to the student group but said the vast majority of guests went with it and in fact enjoyed the cultural interchange. In finding a rural experience that works for you I would suggest a more boutique B&B type place, heaps of them around with a few animals. A lot smaller, less busy whilst they are generally not farms they look like one!

We attended for a group weekend where one of us was celebrating a birthday.
The property must have been amazing in its day but sadly is now extremely tired and run down. We stayed in the Barkers House and the room was huge but so dusty and dirty with cobwebs, peeling paint, damp patches on the ceiling, and very very old, musty decor. It was really sad to see what could have been a great room so very dated and worn and basically very 2 star. The bathroom was newer but very cheaply done and the hot water ran out after about 2 minutes so you had to be quick! The windows were also painted shut so no chance of airing the room either. There were no bedside tables nor table lamps either which was a shame if you wanted to read in bed.
Downstairs in the huge room with the snooker table there was a really tired, damp, musty aroma. Everything was very dusty and old and the kitchenette such as it was, just reeked of mildew and you would certainly never want to use it for anything. Nor was there any cutlery or crockery. The old couch in the TV corner was filthy and smelly and everything just looked tired and forlorn.
What a terrible shame for such a grand old house to be let to just crumble and fade. It made us really sad. The rooms were not looked at by the staff in the whole 3 days, and nor did anyone come and clean the common areas either which was pretty bad.
However, the absolute worst thing of all was yet to come. We were woken at 3am on the first night by a small but very loud barking dog which went on for nearly an hour!. We couldn't believe our ears, since we had been assured that no dogs are allowed on the property! We eventually dragged ourselves out of bed to try and track down the source and it would appear it was in fact the owners' dog who also live in the Barkers House, in the room adjacent to ours. We were pretty upset so we asked staff to investigate but they obviously didn't do anything as the same thing happened the following night, only at 2.30am!
You know, if we weren't paying $700 for a weekend, perhaps we wouldn't have minded so much, but when we were already very disappointed in the accommodation and then woken two nights in a row you can't help but feel ripped off. We told the woman when we checked out, both about the toilet and the barking dog but she didn't write anything down or seem to care at all and didn't offer an apology never mind a discount!
Other than that, the pool area was nice but the pool was not clean and the hot tub was just filthy. I think when you have lots of small children around, you have to be expecially careful about hygiene in pools and spas and it was severely lacking. I just hope none of the little kids got sick from the spa particularly, because it reeked of urine. Again, a wonderful area which has just been left to go to ruin which is sad.
The baby animals area again was a repeat of all the above. The poor animals were kept in boiling hot sheds and basically standing in filth. Some of the rabbits in the cages had terrible weeping infected eyes and yet were not kept apart from the others. The water sources in each cage were dirty and polluted and the ducks were so thirsty they were fighting each other to drink from the hose which we turned on for them because no staff member seemed to have done anything for days.
The food was, like other people have said, highly processed - tinned fruit, frozen hash browns, eggs from factories (we specifically asked about eggs from the farm but were told they don't use anything from the farm as it's all just for show...!), tinned pineapple, "supermarket" plastic bread for toasting for breakfast, no spreads of any kind, just plastic individual servings of Meadowlea... It would've been so nice to have had proper healthy food, farm bread, milk, jams etc. Extremely disappointing.
The staff seemed to be very confused about things and forgot to serve people at each meal, and then cleared plates while people were still eating which was awkward. They were just young and sweet but had obviously had no training whatsoever which was a shame. There was a huge mix up when we went to pay as well, the woman seemed to have no idea which room was which and again, it was awkward and embarrassing.
We have been on lots of farm stays and this was definitely the worst. I just wish I had a couple of million dollars to donate to the owners because this place needs it really badly.
I feel that the place was very overpriced in its current state and the staff desperately need training plus the tariffs need to be revised otherwise they are running the risk of alienating future guests.
Sorry guys - you lose our vote this time.

Hi Guy's sorry it all fell short for you, by now you would have had my letter so I wont go over things again. Once an experience is firmly anchored in the bottom half of the glass that's where it stays. The 2 million would be great so I'll keep an ear out for lottery wins! I support my staff 100% they always aim to please our guests, junior wait staff do there best and they are learning so we are patient with them through this process on the the Saturday of your visit two of our staff had volunteered their time with me at a Starlight Foundation event, that's the type of people we have here. I certainly disagree with your view about the animals , they are there for the kids during the day, the birds roam free and when no one is on the farm the animals are out grazing. It's a fine line between 'free range' and Fox attacks which are a constant problem here. We do use our own eggs but the amount produced is small compared to demand. If you want to actually know where the eggs come from I can direct you to to our free range supplier, as I said when the glass is half empty... we do our best with meals, the meat is from here most of the time. We are not allowed to supply you milk from our cows we would certainly like to produce more food and have some projects underway already. I concede that Barkers needs a face lift, it was grand no doubt 138 years ago it is one of our projects for 2013 it is a long list, your friends were here two years before we took over & would know many things have improved since then. Let me clarify about dog's, we have them it's a farm like many working farms outside dogs are not what you want around. The little companion dog for Mrs Couch was in the wrong place that shouldn't have occurred and we need to ensure this is not repeated I think your review is harsh, yes the place is old and we have a lot of challenges keeping up with infrastructure, all of us here are very passionate about what we do we believe that we are heading in the right direction. I don't expect you will redeem the Day Visit voucher we sent already but would really welcome you back to spend some time with you. Blair & Jacqui

Having read one of the reviews about a singapore family staying at mowbray park, we booked this place with a bit of hesitation.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff. Even though we arrived early, they hosted us and Ms Hana (our host) brought the children for pony rides and a visit to the nursery where the kids can interact with lots of bunnies and chicken.
Hana was excellent!
Lunch was then served by noon and I must say that the quality of the food in term of taste, presentations and variety, was of superb level. The chef - Christine, is really an excellent cook. The food all tasted 'home cooked' and authentically Australian. That said, we were continuously pampered with good food and services at meal time throughout our stay!
Great skills Chrisine!
The lodge we stayed - chapel - was quite a cosy one, fitted with a 'gas' fire place, the family enjoyed a great time warming ourselves together. Awesome for the urban raised children coming from singapore! The lodge is very basis but we were alright as we were not expecting a 5 stars hotel here.
The programs were fun and surprising. Fun bcos the kids get to milk a cow, ride ponies, sit around a camp fire and make billy tea and roast some bread with maple syrup. We also managed to set up a firewood BBQ area for some mashmellow BBQ-ing in the night! Totally awesome. It was surprising cos James, one of the host, surprised our children with a bigger pony for our 7-yr old boy on the last day and also went on a surprising pony riding route which I'll leave it to some of you to find out yourselves.
Thumbs up for James!!!!
The services were excellent, from reception, to our host, to the chefs and even down to their handy man - John who greeted us with his ever-so-friendly dog - scuffy!
Thank you Mobray Park for making the farm stay a memorable one for a Singaporean family!

To our Singaporean family, I'm so glad you came to find out for yourselves what Mownray Park is like. Each month of the year we may have one or two families from Singapore and what a thrill it is to us to be able to share with you our lifestyle and work. Just to let you know Hannah is expecting her first child in March 2013, so Christmas holidays are her last but fiance James will still be here and Mum Christine will still keep tummies full. Hope you can get back here some time. All the best Blair & Jacqui

My family and I stayed at the Majellean Lodge and it was beautiful. We stayed in a family unit with a room with one queen bed and the other room with 2 sets of bunk beds plus a single bed. The rooms were spacious and ventilation was good. The only downside was the cleanliness. It's adequately cleaned but if you have dustmite allergies like I do, or your children are asthmatic, it's going to be terrible. I had a full blown allergy on my face and neck by the next morning because those were the only areas I couldn't cover when I go to sleep and my younger child's eyes would be swollen every morning. The swelling would go down by the end of the day but next morning, it'll be up again. The older ones sneezed every time we entered the lodge. I would also recommend bringing drinking water along if you're not local as their drinking water is rainwater. There's also a jacuzzi bath in our room but if you did fill the bath a little, the colour of the water will put you off.
But then again, we are city people. This was probably inevitable for us to feel these kind of discomfort on a farmstay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I read about the food issues earlier in the reviews and I want to assure you that it's not a problem by the time we stayed there. The food was really good and the cook put in a lot of effort preparing our delicious meals. We enjoyed the food a lot.
Our farm guide, Yost, was really friendly and my kids loved him. We went on a weekday so there weren't much planned activities. Just the usual morning feeding of the animals and pony rides. We were done by lunch. There were no other planned activities until 3pm for the bread and billy tea making experience. It was drizzling lightly so we didn't get the opportunity to see the boomerang throwing and whip cracking. Kids were bummed.
Since we were only staying for 3D2N we tried to make the most out of it. We went canoeing and archery on the free slots and the experience was wonderful for my city kids.
The laundry is about 5 mins walk away from my accommodation and takes only $2 coins. The dryer is not working properly so you still need to air your clothes for them to dry completely. Laundry powder is provided. It is a dark and lonely walk to the laundry shed if you are doing your laundry after 8pm. The kitchenette only has a microwave and kettle so you can't do any cooking in it.
It was a pity we had these medical conditions but they didn't really ruin our experience too much. I would still highly recommend Mowbray Park for families just that if you have the allergies as mentioned, register for the day programs will do, stay in Picton. If you are strong and healthy, do stay in the farm for a complete experience. Also, it might be better go on weekends for more activities.

Hi Momokokomo, thanks fro taking the time to give us a detailed review it's really important for us to learn what we can about the experience people have here. A real bummer about your families allergy's we occasionally find people react to the animal activity simply because not many people these days are exposed to more than cats and dogs. Dust would have been on the ride along with pollen when you were here it was so dry and had been windy. The rain arrived though which was good for us. Overall seems like we got it pretty good, I'll continue to do our absolute best with the heritage buildings we have, we only use Dysons !! Hope you can make it back here some time . Cheers.

Great location, great warm friendly staff. The flexibility, the genuine attention to details and perfect pace was excellent. My 2 girls aged 10 and 8, loved it, so much so, they are asking daily - when can we go back to the farm!!!

Oh I like it when the children look for a return date. Seriously though that kids that age want to return means that something here has resonated with them, we live for that. Beyond the fun we want people and importantly children to know a little more about farming the role it plays in our everyday lives. It is an exhausting occupation, we worry a lot about our animals, are they safe, healthy and happy. We are a working farm but without those considerations we should not have the responsibility of animal care, they need us, we need them we owe them. Really look forward to your next visit. Cheers

November is not school holidays here, but if it's weekend it will probably be busy. I believe their busiest nights are Friday and Saturday. They should be good with staffing, when we went the owner was away on holidays, it was school holiday period and their busiest time. We stayed in Barker lodge, can't comment on the other one. It's very rustic 3 star as expected on a farm.
