We loved our 5 nights at the Sundeck , superb ski in ski out location with pub, loung/games room and dining room . This year even lunch was included, breakfast and lunch were great, but the 3 course dinners were seriously amazing! I couldn’t stop raving to my partner each night who was at home minding our dog . I would recommend paying the extra and booking the mountain view room as much bigger , our courtyard room was very small and in need of a make over - great for children though . The showers were fab and the bed was comfy. ✅ highly recommend Sundeck if you are skiing Perisher

While this review may be a little longer than usual, I will not stoop to the Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness of a previous reviewer (S.F.), who's lofty standards I could not hope to emulate.

I've been staying at the Sundeck since 1963 (more seasons than not), and albeit I was very young then, I have many fond memories over the many years. Yes, the building itself is dated (60+ years old), and some (Mr F) may say it's "tired", but the atmosphere, food and service is always memorable, the views from most of the rooms, the bar and lounge are breathtaking, and the ski in ski out position is unmatched. As is the value for money for such a prime position.

I’m not sure about other people (😳) ….. but I don’t go to the snow to watch TV or spend time on devices. Strange as it may seem, I go to ski, and for the enjoyment of interacting with other lodge guests (and staff). Obviously staff and food and snow vary from season to season, but overall there is no better place to stay!! And I believe I am well qualified to comment as I have stayed in MANY different hotels and lodges over the years.

Cliff, Sayaka and the other staff are always friendly and accommodating, like calmly and clearly (and often humorously) explaining the options for dinner, or providing power boards or extension cords if required 😳. And strangely, I’ve never considered it an imposition to drop my room key in the box before leaving each morning…. A- I’m not at risk of losing it, and B- it’s one less thing in my pockets (of which there are usually many when skiing).

Another thing I really enjoy at the Sundeck is the afternoon live entertainment 6 days out of 7. Nowhere else on the mountain provides this! And while it is true that the wild “party days/nights” at the Sundeck are a rarity these days, it’s not such a bad thing for old buggers like me who can no longer party all night and ski all day. 😔

Keep up the great work Cliff and Sayaka, you provide a fantastic overall service at reasonable on snow rates.

We had the most wonderful time at Sundeck. Cliff worked so hard to keep all of us house guests very happy. The food was sensational and the best on the Mountain. The rooms were cosy and comfortable and clean. The staff were really friendly and patient.

Having a bar with live music and even a magician for the kids and a warm lounge room was so special.

The views were unbeatable and the luxury of being able to ski in and out anytime was really just the best.

For those who need in room telephones, tvs, ironing boards and central heating go somewhere else!

We will be back for sure!!!

While the Sundeck could use a little spruce up we wouldn't stay anywhere else in Perisher. The location is unparalleled. The food is always excellent and the service is great. Love that first run down to the lifts in the morning and skiing to the door when coming back in the afternoon.

The Sundeck is ski in-ski out. Accommodation includes all meals. So once you get there (via the SkiTube and Hans Oversnow) you are all set. Cliff and Sayaka are the hosts and they are always friendly, helpful and run the place with great efficiency. The rooms have everything you need, but do not expect the Ritz. They are comfortable, warm, with great views. Note, there is no TV, which is great, as you are there to ski, eat, drink and bond with your family. If you want a tv, I suggest you stream some movies in advance. The food, especially at dinner is delicious. A real highlight of the year. There is always a vegetarian option. A three course meal every night. Kransky on a roll at lunch with a beer. The wine list is spectacular. During this Covid season, everything worked perfectly and it was very smooth, although we missed the usual live entertainment. Cliff's trivia was lots of fun.
It is a consistent quality experience, year on year. After 15 years, this is part of my family's year that we look forward to from December onwards. We will be back next year (twice, if we win the snowman competition!!)

The Sundeck has many pluses - the accommodation, the location, the food and the staff. We had a very enjoyable stay. The motel is large with seperate spaces if you choose to hang out in the bat or sit and relax on comfy lounges.

I've been lucky enough to ski many places in the world and NONE of them are as easy to Ski in / Ski out as the Sundeck. It is simply the best location on any Mountain I have ever experienced. Its an actual Licensed Hotel so the bar has a good range of beverages and there's something on every night to entertain you. Singing, Comedy, Trivia and more.

Great spot to rest the weary legs, quench the thirst and enjoy the view.
Bar service was efficient, food service not so.
Seemed rather odd, that after paying for a bowl of hot chips at the bar, one then had to go to the dining room, join another queue than eventually be given a buzzer as the hot chips were cooked on demand, not only for me but for the half dozen or so others who were also ordered hot chips.

People have raved about this place that's why we Booked 5 Days Stay Ski in Ski Out was Great but no one told us how to ski in so we missed it 3 times till we figured it out, had a Mountain view Room but ours looked at the Carpark I complained about view as it wasn't the same as on the Net told manager would see us about it nothing happened, breakfast was good, dinner seemed a bit bland but when you cook for 70 people with 3 choices per 3 course dinner you have to be Thrifty, we had brought some nice wine for trip but as the hotel is licensed the only place you can drink is outside it in your room, the staff were lovely especially Cliffs Wife, Cliff could try being a bit Warmer and bit glare at His Guests. At $1500 for 5 days we will go OS next time.

The Sundeck is Australia's highest hotel. It is situated on skier's left of Front Valley. It is Ski in Ski Out accommodation. This is its best and worst feature. At night if you want to go out somewhere you have to wonder down the ski slope in the dark, about 100m and then find your way back.
So this means you have little choice on where to eat, but you do get a three course meal "with options" included. Now the options were quite limited. We arrived on Friday night at about 8.15 and to our surprise we were told that dinner finishes at 7.30pm, but they had kept some for us. We had no choices, they had some lasagne for us which was pretty ordinary and pavlova. We were still quite hungry so they made us some cold chicken salad. After that we just bought a couple of packets of potato chips from the bar as there wasn't many other options.
The room was quite small and the double bed was two singles pushed together, which is pretty normal for alpine accommodation. It was quite cold when we arrived so I turned the heater on full hoping the room would be warm after dinner. The heater is a small column heater on wheels. That night we had it on full all through the night and it barely warmed the room. It was also quite noisey and made a very loud series of clicking noises every 15 minutes, making for a pretty restless night sleep.
The breakfast was adequate, a buffet (served by the chef not you) of eggs, baked beans and bacon plus cereals, a bit of fruit and bread for toast. The dinner that night was somewhat better. We had a few choices and the dinner was nice. But if you are a big eater like myself (especially after a day skiing) then bring a girlfriend that won't finish her meal, I probably ate about 1/3 of my girlfriends food and I was still a bit hungry at the end.
That night was much more comfortable. We had left the heater on during the day to warm the room and found that on the medium sitting it only click occasionally when the thermostat turned on or off, not the loud repeated clicking noise it made on the full setting. We also changed the order of the blankets so the woolen one was on us and the other blanket on top of it.
The bar there is nice, well stocked, reasonable prices and a pool table. There is also a nice lounge and you can borrow various board games from the bar. The lounge has a nice view, an open fire place would have topped it off nicely.
They have a ski room that opens directly onto the slopes to put your gear and a drying room with chairs to put your boots.
Overall the experience of having ski in ski out was great and I am glad I stayed there once, but next time I'll probably stay lower on the mountain for a few more options.

Thank you for your detailed review. May I suggest that if arriving late at any hotel / guest house you call first to enquire about dining room hours and advise arrival time. We always save meals for guests who have not checked in before the end of dinner but it is not easy knowing what to keep and often guests arrive very late and do not want anything at all.

Of course there are never any guarantees with weather, though our thorough research has found that over the last 20yrs the most reliable time is mid August for the best skiing conditions..

Dear Bruce, Thank you for your enquiry. If you don't have your own car I suggest catching a greyhound bus to the mountains, or plane to Canberra and shuttle bus from there (Fridays and Sundays only). Call or email if any other questions. Regards Cliff
