As much as I want to keep quiet about Barrakee (so I can actually get a booking going forwards) I really have to give Darren, Kylie, Hannah and the team a great big thumbs up. We had a very friendly reception especially from Hannah and the team but also from the other guests. This lodge is warm and welcoming - slippers and Ugg boot are a must for the bar, you feel you are in your best friends home.

Kids eat separately so parents can have canapes with their pre-dinner drinks (heaven). Our kids loved the food and the games room. The adult dinner was like dinning out at a top notch resturant every night, it's a good job were were burning the calories during the day. Breakfast was suitably awesome as well.

There is a great kit/change room as you enter and ski gear is all sorted per room. The drying room means everything is dry and ready to go the next morning. The bedrooms are clean with a small but modern tiled shower/toilet. The sink and vanity is located in the room. Don't worry if you don't have a view, we never spent any time in the room and the view from the bar and lounge is great and far more sociable.

The lodge is just up from the North Perisher T bar which we used to launch our day's skiing and then we returned via The North Face run down. Although this is a "black" it isn't difficult (would be a red in Europe) and can be great fun finding new ways in-out of the trees back to the lodge. There's nothing like skiing right up to the door of the lodge. Alternatively, Darren will take you down to Perisher or the bottom of the interceptor at various times in the morning and do the reverse later in the day.

We were extremely lucky to book Barrakee at the last minute and enjoyed the off season pricing even more. This was probably due to a lot of their regulars not being able to make it up from Victoria and other places due to the COVID border closures. I am hoping we will be as lucky next year! We can't wait to visit again.

This was our first time skiing in Australia. We chose Barrakee Lodge on a recommendation from a friend and we were not disappointed! The snow was perfect and we were keen to experience the slopes. Barrakee Lodge was perfectly situated, being nestled at the bottom of the North Face run with both a T bar and a chairlift only a few hundred metres from the front door. Skiing out on your own schedule is an easy option, otherwise there is morning and afternoon transport offered every day. The lodge is appealing both externally and in internally. The experience begins as soon as you walk up the stairs into the cosy communal area with beautiful log fire, setting the scene for the perfect ski holiday. We received an upgrade in our room and our accomodation was very comfortable and functional (even though we spent most of our time out on the slopes during the day).

After a hard day on the slopes we returned to the roaring fire, pre-dinner drinks and canapés served in front of the open fire. After the children's dinner at 6, it was the adults turn, were we were treated to an evening meal which would match that of any restaurant in Sydney.

Whilst the above ticked all the boxes, the best thing about Barrakee Lodge is the wonderful staff. From the General Manager Hannah, Supervisor Ellie and wonderful chefs you could not have asked for more. They have excellent customer service, guest relations and overall it felt like a home away from home. The owners of the lodge, Kylie and Darren were most accomodating and went to every effort to ensure the needs of each and every one of the guests was met. They go above and beyond.

I would highly recommend Barrakee Lodge to anyone looking to go on a ski holiday in Perisher Valley.

This small intimate lodge does such a great job at allowing children to have a fun time whilst still providing a cosy, convivial, chic environment for adults to enjoy pre dinner drinks followed by a beautifully presented, very high quality 3 course dinner each evening. The small but varied wine and drinks list met our needs (which is saying something as we are a bit fussy about wine!).Liked the Malbec and the Gavi.
The drying rooms and ski storage area works well and my son enjoyed the sauna.
The rooms are compact (bring limited luggage - you only need ski gear and something to wear in the evening) not luxurious but although basic the beds were comfortable, the room warm and provided all you need for a good nights sleep.
Barrakee, being 2.1km from Perisher center, provides oversnow transport - two runs in the morning and two in the afternoon. This worked well for us. The grandchildren had ski school in the morning, followed by lunch and some more skiing making the 3.45 return to Barrakee suitable for the little ones. On the couple of occasions that some of our party wanted to return earlier Hans Oversnow provides an efficient (if a little costly) taxi service. More experienced skiers can ski back to the lodge.
Skiing is not a cheap holiday and I thought that for a group of 7,
grandparents, parents and 3 children, Barrakee represented exceptional value for money, It was relaxed enough for the kids to thoroughly enjoy themselves but also provided great food, wine and atmosphere for the adults so that even the fussy old grandmother (me) had a great time!
Kylie, Darren and all of the staff were wonderful.
It is hard to describe but there is just something rather special about this lodge..
Our family are already planning to come back.

After reading the reviews I thought we were in for a treat. That was not the case.

The lodge is rather dated and smells strange in the hallways. The rooms are absolutely tiny and look nothing like the pictures. The curtains in our room wouldn’t even close all the way, were falling off the clips and let the extremely cold air in plus they were extremely old. There was also no shower curtain (just the clips it normally hangs on) so the water sprayed all over the floor. The bathroom was miniature and very, very tatty.

The communal areas are alright but the old brown lounge has definitely seen better days. The vertical blinds are broken in this area so you can’t even open them all the way up to enjoy the view. The lodge feels like it was built 30 years ago and have never seen a lick of paint or a good deep clean.

With regards to the food, the adults food was nice but the kids food was horrid. One night they seriously gave our kids pork and fennel sausages and salad. Dessert is just ice cream and topping. They promote a hot buffet breakfast but it’s not what you would expect. Our kids were so disappointed that there were no pancakes.

Dinner is served at 7pm which is very late when you have been out skiing all day. Same goes for the kids being served at 6pm.

You can make yourself a cup of tea with a tea bag or make an instant coffee but if you want a cappuccino or a pot of tea with your breakfast then you have to pay extra. The kids can't make themselves a hot chocolate either.

With the amount of money you pay to stay, it would nice if a decent coffee each morning was included or even a pot of tea. Even if the first one was free and then you had to pay for extra, that would be appreciated.

It is promoted as ski in and out lodge but it is not suitable for beginners so don’t even think that is an option. It doesn’t matter that there is a Tbar close by as you can’t really walk or ski to it easily.

The staff are really lovely, especially Hannah the manager, but sadly the lodge is unimpressive overall.

We were very disappointed and won’t be going back.

We had the most beautiful time at the Barakee lodge. Thank you so much to Hannah, Kylie, Darren, Ellie, Hannah, Guada and Pavo for making us feel so at home, happy and nourished. It was such a treat to be met with such big smiles, warmth and loveliness everyday. Everything was so perfectly organised and so much attention to detail (especially endless water-refilling).

Thanks to Eli and Billie for such incredible vegan and vegetarian feasts. Every day was a delicious creative surprise (actually every course was incredible!).

The views from the lodge were gorgeous and it felt so calm and beautiful all the time, but especially at sunset and sunrise.

We can’t wait to come back and will miss everyone!

Disappointed is all I can say. The ski lodge and facilities look amazing and I’m sure the staff are wonderful, however we were unable to make our family skiing holiday (recommended not to go by Dr) due to our young son breaking his hand on the morning of arrival.

We contacted Barakee Ski lodge and advised the situation and have been informed that we will now for go all of our accommodation cost paid (close to $3,800) because we cancelled with in 60 days of arrival.

Whilst technically it would have been possible to still visit, what type of accommodation /holiday would it have been for a child to remain in his room for four days.

We indicated that we would be happy to transfer our dates to use between 2021 -2022 (a similar offering to what a covid hotspot recipient would receive)to which we were told “sorry no” and hope your child gets better.

Disappointed.

AdrianM4819 thank you for your review. We too were very disappointed that you weren't able to make it at the last minute due to your little one injuring himself before your trip. Unfortunately last minute cancellations don't give us any time to rebook the room and at time of booking we do strongly recommend for guests to arrange travel insurance for their holiday for use in the event of a mishap or injury. Our Covid Cancellation Policy waives cancellation fees for guests who are impacted by Covid lockdowns and unable to travel due to Government restrictions, not for an injury I'm afraid. Sorry that we were unable to assist you due further as we were not able to rebook the room with such little notice of the cancellation. Thank you again for your comments as we always take guest feedback into account to improve our services and policies.

We recently stayed at Barrakee Ski-Lodge (on-snow lodge) for the first time. The hosts were fantastic, the rooms were clean, comfortable and warm! All towels and linen are provided which makes travelling up the mountain so much easier. The restaurant food was very tasty and the bar atmosphere really welcoming. Although the lodge is a short distance from the Perisher terminal, the owners have a free oversnow service that runs multiple times person day which is super convenient. We were personally greeted on arrival by the hosts, shown to our room and given a tour of the lodge. At all times we felt like this was a home away from home. We'll definitely be returning and do recommend this lodge to anyone travelling to Perisher as it has something for everyone.

The host was inhospitable and my family and friends felt like we were a burden instead of been guest at the lodge

No fresh towels were provided the hallways dirty and rooms were not vacuumed and no Covid safe measures.
We felt like we were at a school camp instead of a family getaway overly priced and under delivered and the owner’s rude behaviour.
Only positive point the chief for dinner.

Thank you for a truly wonderful stay at Barrakee. Kylie and Darren made our family feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. The front of house staff provided friendly, efficient service and the complimentary daily transfers to the ski lift ran perfectly.

Heartfelt thanks to the outstanding catering team for providing our highly sensitive coeliac daughter with delicious, safe and perfectly varied meals for the duration of our stay. Kylie’s meticulous attention to detail watching over every meal served to my daughter (even on Kylie’s scheduled nights off!) was next level and beyond appreciated. It was by far the best experience we’ve ever had where the knowledgeable staff made it feel like no trouble at all to cater to dietary needs.

We look forward to staying again in the future!

The Barrakee private shuttle will pick you (and luggage) up from the ski tube and take you to the lodge. Ski out of the lodge, 2 lifts and you're in Guthega. Enjoy
