Detailed Reviews
Nice accommodation, but it was the staff who absolutely made this place. Came as a family of four (two grown ups, two kids) and the staff were fantastic. Tatiana and Louis are incredibly hard working and very can-do, getting us up and down the mountain, and doing what they can to help. Erica in the restaurant was a wonderful server, great with the kids who remembered their orders & preferences. Ben in the bar was incredibly patient and friendly with the boys, as well as making great drinks with good tunes. Last but not least, chef Brandon made incredible food , everything was delicious, fresh, and made both grown ups and kids very happy, somehow he manages to create a menu which pushes waaaay beyond what you usually get in ski resorts and delivers with consistency and friendliness. Thanks from the Macs.

Having stayed at other ski resorts around Australia, the Stables in Perisher is arguably the best on mountain resort. Ski down, walk across the footbridge and you are on the Village8 in a matter of minutes. Room had everything we needed, comfortable and clean and warm. The staff were second to none - nothing was ever a problem, friendly and welcoming. Thanks to Mark, Nicole and the whole team for a great week.

We stay here when going to Perisher. The apartments are clean and modern and the staff are very good picking up from and dropping off at Ski Tube, and full of helpful information. My only concern is this year the restaurant and bar experience was a little underwhelming and maybe it’s time for a refresh; warped tables are not good for dining and the carpet looks tired and worn. The food is great.

Disgraceful urine stained bedding. Mould build up in the shower. Dirty oven - too afraid to use it! Pull out sofa bed sink into the middle - mattress too old. Overall a tired and dirty apartment. However staff were lovely especially Trevor and Nick who went out of their way to ensure we were transported to and from the ski field. The waitress in the restaurant was amazing.

Dan is the best! always there to lend a hand, driving us to and from the mountain, wonderful guy! Tatiana was fabulous and very responsive and helpful. All the staff were wonderful and compare to no other, great management. stayed unit 10, great accommodation, newly rennovated. However sofa bed is terrible. Other than that had a wonderful time at the Stables and highly recommend it! Restaurant had excellent food. enjoyed a game of pool with manager. all staff so friendly.

Great accommodation run by friendly, professional staff. Well situated to the ski fields and other amenities / restaurants. Would not hesitate to recommend. Had a little hiccup with our booking and it was sorted out efficiently and without drama.

This is the second time we have come to the stables resort this winter and we will not be coming back again.
Our first visit in july was wonderful plenty of snow and smiles, great service from sophie and monica, magnificent food from the chefs and nothing to complicate or complain about.
Well what has happened since, service is miserable rooms were dirty and the food is disgraceful,my husband being told all the original staff had left buy friends who are owners of a unit.
When your charging this much, service should be your main priority, do yourself a favour the smiggins hotel was a much nicer experience

Staying at the stables is something i will never do again.
The accommodation is in the top brackets and is drastically overpriced. Our room was poorly cleaned and the rude girl at the front desk morgan said it would be $130 !! To have it serviced again, scum build up on the bathroom tiles, dirty cutlery and the oven looked like it had been used for a cremation.
Cremation is another word i will use when referring to the food now.
Buffet was straight out of the 90's and very poorly cooked same both nights lamb you could bounce off a wall it was so rubbery. Staff in the restaurant were running around with no clue.
Food is not what it said on the website may want to check with the desk before you check in and make plans elsewhere to eat
To sum up just appalling do not waste your money on this overpriced and underwhelming so called resort

The apartments themselves were nice, clean and warm. We were thrilled with the free upgrade. It cost approx $1,200 per night which is an acceptable rate for a non-serviced 3 bedroom apartment close to the lifts during school holidays but not an acceptable price for the service we received. The location would be good if a shuttle ran at some stage during the day - we felt that once we left in the morning, our room was inaccessible until the afternoon shuttle. You can pay for transport but $12 per person (we are a family of 5) for a 2 minute trip is ridiculous when you are already paying for "luxury accommodation".
We were told on check in by a very friendly Matt that we could ring to check if the shuttle was doing an arrival/departure pick up and grab a free lift uphill. As it was raining and there were deep puddles everywhere, I ended up with wet socks after my first uphill walk so when I did some grocery shopping and picked up my skis, I called for the shuttle. It was organised without too much fuss but when I arrived at the apartment was abused by the tall blond girl (partner of Matt) and told they were not a taxi service. She also told off Bart, the shuttle driver, as someone was waiting to be picked up. I reminded her that this was a service they had offered me and she stormed off. She then continued to ignore me every time we crossed paths (most staff acknowledge your presence but this one had real attitude)!
The 3-5pm skiers shuttle is a joke - it is supposed to run every half hour but transfers for arrivals are also offered 3-5pm and there is only one shuttle so the arrivals are the priority. We waited at the shuttle stop prior to 3:30 for 3 days in a row but it never came before 3:50. We were tired and very cold. The uphill walk is quite difficult and cannot be done wearing ski boots or whilst carrying anything.
The restaurant food was good but the menu was very limited and doesn't change for the whole season. The service was a joke - the two waitresses would stand around chatting most of the time and we would have to interrupt them if we wanted anything. We had breakfast in the restaurant on our last day and the table was dirty and cutlery was thrown into the middle of the table for us to distribute even though we were the only ones there.
My daughter ordered the fish on our first night and it was full of very small bones which could not be removed. I tried it but also found it to be inedible. We were told that's the way it comes (even thought no-one bothered to look at it) and if we wanted another meal would have to pay for it. We then had to wait a long time for her second meal as "other orders had been put in before hers". Needless to say, we did not leave a tip at this restaurant. As we had prepaid our meals, we had no choice but to go back every night.
Our family travels extensively, both locally and overseas, we also eat out regularly. We have never experienced anything like this and find it an embarrassing example of Australian hospitality. Although The Stables has potential, it comes with poor service and rude staff so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and will not be returning.

Response from scott w, General Manager at The Stables Perisher
Responded 23 July 2012
We are obviously disappointed at the level of service you apparently received, and even allowing for the busy school holiday period that should never be accepted. As NPWS only licence properties for one snow cat each, during peak operations unavoidable delays do occur on our courtesy shuttle service, particularly on weekends. Hans Oversnow is available 24hrs per day with prices to or from The Stables being $10per adult and $5 per child. (Afterhour surcharges do apply). I am pleased there were aspects of your stay you did enjoy and that you appreciated the complimentary upgrade. Matt joins with me in apologising that on this occasion we failed to meet your expectations and trust, if you stay with us again we will have the opportunity to show you we can do better.

We spent 5 nights here on our annual ski trip. We were hoping it lived up to its reputation. Unfortunately it didn't. This was classified as a luxury resort, but we found it to be a mediocre lodge but with the price tag of a 5 star accomodation.
The location was great going skiing but on the return the hill was very tiring (especially after skiing all day) we would have to wait from 3pm for the over snow free transport (which was always full and we would have to wait a further 5-10mins to be picked up)
The heating was very good, and we did not feel the cold.
The rooms were supplied with very minimal requirements. eg, 5 tea bags/5 coffee bags/10 little packs of sugar also the bathroom were also only supplied with 1 shampoo, 1 conditioner and 1 soap for approx 4 people for 5 days.
When we asked for extra 'Sue" the manager stated that 'This is a self serviced apartment, you should bring your own' we were very shocked. We paid over $5000 for 5 nights, if I wanted to stay in a lodge or self serviced apartment, I could have saved plenty of $$.
Sue was very arrogant and in your face manager, we are not accustomed to a hotel/lodge/resort manager being so brazen and rude.
The walk to breakfast was a mission, the walkway was always snow filled and it required an uphill battle every morning and every afternoon when returning from skiing. They were not shovelled up, only if we complained it was hard getting our ski's out.
We had purchased meal plans prior to arriving, these were also overpriced for the quality.
The restaurant was Ok, staff were friendly and attentive, meals were OK, wait time was approx 1hr for mains. The only negative I have about the restaurant is the Chocholate Mousse..was 3 squirts (I mean that literally) of mousse, my kid was very sad and for $12 -seriously???? what were they thinking??
I do not recommend this supposedly 'resort' better out there to try than this, especially for $$$ charged.
