Detailed Reviews
Having found Grey Gum Lodge online with no recommendation I booked for my partner and I in March 2019. I have stayed with Darren and Stuart on three further occasions since then.
On every stay the rooms have been immaculate and the service top class. They make themselves available at all times and have always given great advice on the local area and attractions.
Grey Gum Lodge is a small quirky guest house a leisurely walk from Nimbin town centre and has the feel of an old time guest accommodation. The rooms are all different with unique furnishings and comfortable settings. Being on the edge of town it is quiet and very private with car parking next to the rooms and a feeling of complete security. I love the Tweed Valley and Byron Coast and find Grey Gum Lodge a very central location to explore the hidden wonders of this area.
I look forward to my next stay and assure and readers of this review a welcoming place with old style values and treatment should they choose to stay. Greg B.

My wife and I just spent 2 nights at the Grey Gum Lodge. We got one of the queen size rooms with access to a shared verandah. Room was nicely equipped with everything you need, and the verandah was great to sit on and enjoy a drink, with a splendid view onto a distant mountain range. There is also a small kitchenette there with a toaster and microwave. The hosts Darren and Stuart were very nice to deal with and very accommodating. The lodge is a 5 minute walk from the centre of Nimbin.

My partner and I spent a night in a queen room with our own verandah. We had our dog with us as well. The room was clean and comfortable, and Darren was very friendly and helpful. He was also flexible in allowing us to stay just one night to use a credit we had from a previous booking that we had to cancel due to covid. The place is close enough to town to walk, but far enough away to be very peaceful. It has a lovely rural outlook from the front verandah.

Third stay at the Grey Gum Lodge. Still the same peaceful place to spend a few nights. Everything is done right, Darren and his partner (I did not get his name, sorry) could not be more helpful with the sights and eating information around Nimbin. Great rooms, plenty of hot water for the showers, comfortable beds. Just a great place to chill. They gave us a place to visit, Nimbin Valley Dairy where two of their friends started up a food wagon. Local cheese platers, they looked great. My partner and I had toasties and they were delicious. The Nimbin Bowling Club has really great meals at very reasonable prices. The salt and pepper squid is to die for.

What a lovely place! Old wooden house that hasn't been made over to modernise it, thoughtfully decorated and with everything you need for comfort. Bed was good, room has a fan and air-conditioning, and there's a small communal kitchen with toaster and microwave (no hob or oven). Friendly welcome and best of all fabulous balcony to hang out on with view over the hills. And beautiful lush gardens as well. The road is a bit noisy in the morning, the only downside.

I had booked to stay for a week in nimbin, whilst my kids were in Byron with their dad. We were so looking forward to this as we had been in Victoria in lockdown for 4 months and this was our reward.
Unfortunately the borders closed and we could no longer go. When I rang the owner to cancel. He was curt and not the sort of person you would expect living in Nimbin - he acted like he was a concierge in a corporate hotel in the city. He wouldn’t give me a straight answer about my cancellation and showed ZERO empathy or sympathy. In the end not only did he make me pay the full amount but also an 89 cancellation fee! I’m a single mum who saved all year for this holiday but he just stole my money and charged a cancellation fee!
He’s a total fake and he’s only in it for money!!!
He only cares about money and not people! Beware!

This review is a lie. The reviewer booked through Booking.com - when I advised her that she would have to cancel the booking through them, she launched into a tirade of personal abuse. She has been charged an $89 fee only. And not a cent more. Dear travellers - please be advised if your plans are affected by sudden border closure, owing to the pandemic, that Grey Gum Lodge will offer a full credit transfer for travel at a later date within 12 months of the original reservation. BUT -if you book through one of the booking sites, and you need to alter your plans in any way; you need to do this through the booking site you booked with. Not us. Added note: AS much as we would have loved to offer this reviewer the option of a full credit for future travel we could not, as she was so incredibly rude. And there is no way she would ever be welcome here. We reported her behaviour to booking.com, and advised them that we would be taking the unusual step, of charging an $89 cancellation fee, because we earned it having to deal with this throroughly obnoxious person. P.S to reviewer: If all we cared about was money we would not be running a small guesthouse in Nimbin!

Excellent communication from Darren who could not be there for my arrival - his instructions were easy to follow and I was in my room in no time. Lovely room with ceiling fan and AC. Had the best night's sleep on the comfy bed. Everything was clean and tidy. The verandah was a lovely place to sit and the walk into town easy and short. Would definitely stay again.

This is a great lodge, the rooms are huge with a totally separate living area. 4 poster bed was comfy. Gardens are large and a nice place to sit. With only a few rooms it didn't seem crowded. The walk to town is only about 6 minutes. Friendly owners.

Had 4 great relaxing nights here last week. Great hosts with nothing too much trouble. 500 metre walk to town centre along a good footpath. A bit of traffic noise during the day but quiet at night. Felt very safe at night.
