We stayed at the Peninsula Motel as part of an anniversary visit to Nelson Bay. The one-bedroom suite was much more spacious than I had expected and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location, while quiet at night, was wiithin walking distance of the local RSL Club for dinner. We'll be back next time we visit the area.
To call itself a 4 star is a disgrace. Sign says breakfast - no breakfast, no room service, no housekeeping, no phones in rooms despite a notice of how to use phones. When we called reception from our mobiles 5 x , nobody answered. Room with a view was the main road outside. Streams of people walking through reception unmasked. Just awful and expensive. Never again.
Paid $539 for a single night for a 2bdrm apartment to sleep up to 6 adults. Apartment 306 which the front desk guy said is not usually rented out- first red flag. He also apologised that the couch was worn and said this hadn't been fixed yet as they'd just bought the hotel- 2nd red flag. We aren't sure where 2 of the 6 adults were supposed to sleep...only 4 beds total. The pleather lounges were shedding so much black pleather chunks, on us and on the floor, it was shedding worse than a Labrador in Spring. The downstairs AC made noises...but that's it. No air was getting conditioned on its watch, its days of cooling air passed by many, many years ago. The entertainment amenities were vintage, and by that I mean included a grey plastic unit which had a tape deck, wait I mean a double tape deck - wow that's maybe why it's 4 stars?! - note; remember to bring your favourite 80's mix tape. There was a charming golden urn, we worried that asomeone had mistakedly left a loved one behind, and amped up our respect level but on closer inspection found a $34.95 price tag still on the base. Way too much - they were fully ripped off with this decor purchase. Many cracks in the walls, floors, tiles, but surprisingly not the windows. The windows were very grimy and either missing screens or had broken ones. The curtains have options, the options are you can adjust them to block the sun on either the left or the right- because they don't cover full width of glass. The carpet needs painting, yep that's all I can think of doing to hide the extensive mould and icky stains. Id recommend a black paint to cover the larger mouldy stains. My 9yo could not operate the TV remote and found it had no batteries, so resourceful as he tends to be, he checked all the other remotes in the room and found they were mostly also lacking. The restaurant is closed. Phew. I think that's for the best. My friends, there are healthier options out there, please protect your sanity and your wallet and take those.…
We booked a 6 night stay at Port Stephens and were really looking forward to some respite near the water. We found this hotel that looked pretty good, and checked we'd booked a wheelchair accessible room. We received a message confirming it was.... IT WAS NOT! The bedrooms AND bathroom were ALL upstairs. We could have made do, but without even a bathroom downstairs, we had to cancel our 6 night stay. Both TripAdvisor and booking.com were wrong. The staff were very gracious and allowed us a full refund but it left us without accommodation at 8pm on a Friday night. I would, however, give 5 stars for their Chinese Restaurant. The food was piping hot and beautiful. Some of the nicest Chinese food I've had.
Well we were staying there for a week, work this out we got given the worst room , looking out to brick wall , remember we payed for a week , would you think you get the best room , it was tining its very old and dated . Any way we stayed in for a few days then , went and spoke to the respetion lady , she was so nice & said come with me pick a room she was so sorry , guess what its not her FAULT MANGEMENT FAULT .So we go a nice room over looking the pool . Thanks to that lovely lady . Well the pool looks good , l almost fall in as it has got no bar to hold on to , also it was frezzing , there should have solo heating to get it homer than that . Loved staying here on our trip to Nelson bay. A great room and extremely clean which is super important! We also had a great experience with Suzanne from reception who looked after us. Will definitely be back!
I have stayed there twice. The rooms are fine -- good value for money. Location is good also. The staff have been particularly helpful to me, and I appreciate this a lot. It makes a big difference. I would certainly stay there again, given how helpful they were. Thanks all round. The restaurant is also very good. The only reason I take it to 4 stars rather than 5 is the ominous sign warning that the showers can set off the smoke detectors, causing all sorts of problems, if the bathroom door is not closed. I very much hope this might be fixed (please?).. With new smoke detectors that can handle steam? But I'd stay there again, braving the smoke detectors if I have to.
Rooms are well set out and clean, staff are very friendly and helpful. Situated in a good location, 5 minute walk to Little beach and about a 15 minute walk to to either Shoal bay or Nelson Bay. Second time we've stayed here. Highly recommend it.
Will not recommend anyone to stay at this dodgy apartments. They will try to rip you off for everything without even notifying you, so be very careful. Staff doesn't want to provide any service at all but they make sure they rip you off once you checked out. Photos on their website are deceiving as you dont get anything similar when you enter the room. I would not recommend this place for your accommodation at all. We stayed in room number 308 from 28th Nov to 01/12/2020 and paid $1500. It was annoying to find out when they charged us extra for leaving used towels in bathroom, like seriously?? Total Rip off
I booked a room with this motel and had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances. The motel has a policy that they will take your accomodation costs out 72 hours before you arrive and in turn you must give the same amount of notice when cancelling. BE AWARE OF THIS. This motel took my accomodation costs out well before this time and even though I rang well within their stated cancellation policy time to cancel I am still fighting to get a refund on my accomodation costs 3 days later. When I rang the motel to enquire about the problem I spoke to the very abusive, rude receptionist who stated that she was the manager and was well within her rights to do what she had done and would not let me talk or try to ask questions at all and then she hung up on me!!! There are much better places to stay in Nelson Bay . …
