Detailed Reviews

I finally persuaded my wife to visit Lord Howe and picked this apartment on the advice of our travel agent, and a look at online reviews. We stayed in unit 1, which is a VERY spacious apartment on 2 levels, the bedroom, or should I say suite upstairs with full bathroom. Living dining kitchen downstairs, another bathroom. The fitout and appointments were first class and spotless, and the location gave a sense of being totally isolated on a tropical island.
Internet, wifi, TV, stereo, Bose bluetooth speaker, all there.
On arrival Ann and Tim met us and en route took us to the store for some basic provisions including breakfast cereal and wine. They were very obliging and considerate hosts throughout.
The unit came with a big bowl of fruit (mandarins, bananas), light and full cream milk, coffee anyway you like it. We even had Ann arrive one day with a bunch of local bananas, way better than the usual supermarket fare.
The kitchen is fully fitted including dishwasher.
The only issue we had, and this might not matter to some others, is that the bedroom curtains left gaps that allow early sun in, waking us up much earlier than normal.
It's less than 10 mins walk to the village, Anchorage Restaurant was good, burgers at Thompson's store outstanding. Some resorts include 3 Meals a day, talking to some of their guests I think they found it a bit too much, I think a self-catering option much better.
We had a delightful time and wouldn't hesitate to return. Don't miss Dave and Glenys' boat trip to Ball's Pyramid, spectacular.
Be warned that transport costs mean Island food is expensive.

We stayed for 1 week at Howeana and could not fault a single thing.
From the time we met Anne at the airport we knew we were going to have a great time. Her and Tim’s personalities were perfect for the hospitality industry.
Everything was perfect from the location of Howeana and the quality inclusions down to the fact that nothing was too much trouble. Anne had great recommendations for dinner and tours.
When we do go back to Lord Howe we would not even consider staying anywhere else and have recommended Howeana to other friends already.
A 5 star holiday due to Anne and Tim.

The main reason for this review is to pass on some feedback about Howeana Apartments and our hosts Ann and Tim. Everything about their apartments and the care they take of their guests is exceptional. The apartments are just perfect for a couple, beautifully presented and in an excellent location. Ann is very considerate, she had a restaurant booked for us for our first night, and she checked each day to make sure we had everything we needed. We don't normally do reviews, but on this occassion we feel that the accommodation service was so exceptional that we should pass on our thoughts.

We recently hosted a wedding on Lord Howe Island and booked both the beautiful Howeana Apartments because they were advertised as being centrally located and ideal for entertaining family and friends. However, what is not disclosed until arrival is that the proprietor has very strict, unadvertised rules about how many guests can be on the property at any one time, thus preventing us from 'entertaining family and friends'. This caused us major embarrassment, disappointment and inconvenience. Only book these apartments if you are planning a very private retreat.

Before our visit to Lord Howe we had toyed with the pros and cons of self catering or fully catered options and settled on some self catered serviced luxury in Howeana. We couldn't have been happier with our choice! We stayed in Apartment 1, beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean, very comfortable king bed and everything we could need! On arrival the lovely Anne met us and showed us around the "town" and then drove us to Howeana then back to Joy's shop to collect supplies ( which she dropped back to the apartment while we rented our bikes for the week). Howeana is superbly located a very short (flat) stroll from both Ned's beach and the Lagoon to ensure that a protected beach is just a few hundred metres away. Easy 5 minute walk to the lovely Anchorage restaurant/cafe/bakery, Thompson's store and the tours leaving the lagoon.
Anne was the perfect host and a fabulous help in organising restaurant bookings and tours, whilst being totally unobtrusive. Either she or Tim kindly drove us to our restaurant each night who in turn drove us home after some amazing meals in great locations.
Lord Howe Island is spectacular place to visit and Anne and Tim's hospitalty made everything about our stay very special. Thank you!

Howeana Apartments was one of those wonderful holiday surprises. It was not our first choice after scanning the affordable options, but our first choice was not available for our dates.
How serendipitous! From the moment we met Annie at the airport, I could tell we were in good hands.
Howeana could not be better located, unless you are looking for a very expensive view. The apartments (2) are nestled behind lush vegetation, away from the road (which is quiet in any case), just a short walk, or ride, from the islands main services....bike hire, cafe and restaurants, grocery stores, food co-op, dive and activities centres. The spectacular Ned's beach is even closer, being barely a 3 minute walk away.
Two choices are available; a single-level apartment and a larger two-level apartment, which is slightly more expensive. Despite the difference in size, both have similar amenities. All rooms are well-appointed and immaculately presented. Unlike many rental apartments, the kitchen is supplied with a good range of appliances (incl. dishwasher), utensils and tableware, so eating at home is a pleasure. A generous covered patio off the living area is equipped with a BBQ, table and chairs, as well as a couple of comfortable banana lounges. The bathroom is spacious, with a lovely bathtub and a separate laundry is there if you need to wash clothes. Small details like picnic gear, umbrellas, beach towels and daypacks have been provided and as well as free wifi, there is an iPod dock for your music (bring an adaptor for iPhone 6).
Great thought has gone into the design and finish of these apartments and the owners and hosts, Annie and Tim, are both delightful and wonderfully helpful. In the morning you will wake to a choir of bird song and in the evening the sky full of stars will seem like your very own.
While Howeana might not have been our original first choice, it certainly will be Number 1 on our next visit. I just can't think of a place on Lord Howe where I would rather be....

If there's a better located apartment on Lord Howe I'd be surprised. We zipped in and out all day as it was perfectly located halfway between Ned's and the lagoon and the roads were pretty flat which is great for someone not used to riding bikes! And I couldn't imagine a lovelier apartment. It was calm and relaxing and private and beautifully decorated. We had the two storey apartment and it was just the loveliest place we've stayed for a long while, and we stay in lots of nice places. The bathroom was divine, the kitchen perfect for preparing meals, the deck sublime to sit on, the laundry convenient. I could go on and on. I can't believe we booked two weeks out from the school hols and jagged this apartment due to a late cancellation. Next time I'll be booking well in advance to make sure I get it. Annie was a great host. Oh to be back at howeana ....................

We all had the most fantastic stay in Lord Howe Island and our accommodation at Howeana was beautiful. The attention to detail and effort that Anne our host provided was "top notch". The apartment was always clean and its design and decorating made it a joy to stay in with all the comforts of home. It is really well located on the island allowing us to quickly stroll or ride bikes to shops and restaurants and a 3 minute walk to beautiful Neds beach and only 10 minute walk to the Lagoon Beach. The Apartment is well secluded from everyone with a beautiful deck overlooking a rainforest garden. Anne and her staff were very helpful with information about the island and keen to help if needed.
Overall we had a once in a life time holiday on Lord Howe Island staying in the Howeana Apartments. We would strongly recommend this beautiful accommodation to anyone travelling to the island and wanting something special.

We enjoyed a week at the end of May 2018 at Howeana and were delighted at the quality of the apartment Very spacious and relaxing environment. Everything you need to enjoy your holiday. We particularly loved having the Nespresso coffee pods for our twice daily necessity!! Annie was a wonderful friendly host and nothing was too much trouble for her.
We stayed in the single level apartment and after a couple of days of hiking I was kinda glad we didn't have to climb the stairs in the two storey apartment!
Backpacks were provided, torches and umbrellas, just in case of rain. Annie or her husband Tim will drive you to your restaurant in the evening, but for the majority of our dining out we chose to walk with our torch. It was a full moon during our stay so it was lovely to get the exercise after some delicious meals.
Hopefully we'll get to return to Howeana for another special holiday.
