i would say hideaway offers the most competitive rates among the limited accommodations in lord howe
val is way much nicer and helpful in person than on email. she and her daughter stayed >20 years on the island. they know the island very well and share me helpful information.
the room was generally very clean except for some cockroach issue. because of the rodent eradication project in lord howe, i was told that restaurants and lodges were getting cockroaches problem. but val promised to hire a professional pesticide service company to solve it.
basic toiletry is available. hot shower is strong and drainage is good
the location is a little bit uphill. but have a short cut to ned's beach in ~20 mins walking distance
for all the budget lodges in lord howe, please be prepared that there is not even a fan in the room. "very harsh" as what val said, hahaha. so you cannot stay inside the room in a summer afternoon

We atayed at Hideaway for a very enjoyable 10 days. The apartment was very comfortable, with a double bedroom, a sitting room/kitchen, an ensuite and a private deck. Our hosts Val and Bronwyn were wonderful, friendly and helpful. Due to COVID we ate at the resort most nights, in a very nice BAR-BQ area. The rates were excellent and I would recommend it to anyone who likes to look after themselves at least some of the time.

The name pretty much says it all!
Hideaway is a beautiful place, secluded and tuck away in a gorgeous garden which is home to a lovely family of woodhens.
It’s quiet, clean, spacious with a fully equipped kitchen. I especially loved the little deck area at the back of each unit, although there was so much to do on the island that I never got a chance to sit there properly.
Val and Bronwyn looked after me very well. They were very friendly and helpful. They knew I was mostly interested in snorkelling and being in the water and every couple of days they will leave a weather/sea conditions update sheet at my door which I thought was very thoughtful.
I am already looking at dates to go back.

Amazing resort with excellent staff, the service and the amenities are great. My family and I love the fitness center. The Gym had sufficient equipment for total body workout. If you’re not a gym person and want to workout you can join the fitness classes such as Yoga, pilates and even Aqua fit. The procedures and protocols for COVID are intact, so you can feel at home and safe. You must meet Andre And Lindo from the Fitness Team great guys.

I stayed at Hideaway twice in the last year, in February 2021 and February 2022 and I love it.

My sisters and I came for my 40th birthday trip. We found all of the staff to be very friendly. The vibe crew, especially Jeanpaul, made our time by the pool enjoyable. The bartenders, especially Erika, made sure we were taken care of. They were always smiling & fun. The food at every restaurant was great too.

The accomodation was clean and in a peaceful setting, there were ample towels and you could use the guest laundry for washing. Tthere could have been more kitchen equipment. For example no bowls to put salad or veggies in. The coffee plunger was a bonus however :)
The hosts were informative and able to pick you up from local restaurants.
I didn't mind the hike up the hill to get there, im hoping i have buns of steel now :)
Sadly the walls are very thin and i had to sleep in the lounge most nights due the the snoring and coughing all night by the roomies next door. I was glad to go home and get some proper sleep which was a shame really.

Our enjoyment of LHI would have been greater had this accomm been within easier access to surrounds and/or a minibus service which better caters for tourist. The hosts were as friendly and helpful as possible with lifts to get around but it was still too hard for us with a child. So even though the accom was very child friendly, we would unfortunately have to recommend elsewhere nearer the lagoon side. The owners are hoping that the mini bus idea may eventuate. For us an easy swim, stroll or BBQ on the beach required too much pre-planning and prep. to get there and back, with bikes, gear etc so it took the relaxed feel away from the experience. We'd have to agree with previous comments that the accom itself,(we were in a unit) was very basic (especially bathroom) and needs some upgrading. A small fan is needed for very hot days and nights.

Hideaway consists of a secluded cottage and five spacious two-room apartments situated in tranquil gardens amid a forest of Kentia Palms. I stayed in one of the apartments for 7 nights to do some Scuba diving and bushwalking on Lord Howe Island on my way to Vietnam in April 2012. I have to say I was a bit disappointed. The decor and furnishings were cheap and dated, internal sliding doors in need of repair, and it smelt a bit musty.
On the positive side, the apartment was fairly spacious, bed quite comfortable, bathroom clean, kitchen functional, close to Joy's Shop (a general store) and it is very good exercise walking up the hill from Lagoon Beach. My tip is: pay the extra money and stay just down the road if you can afford it - I will be doing this next time.

We stayed 5 nights at hideaway and had a wonderful time. The place was spotless, everything you needed was in the villa. Tranquil setting. Not far from shops and restaurants. Val and her family made us feel very welcome, even cooked for us one night the best fish curry. Would not hesitate to recommend this place. We can't wait to go back.
