Detailed Reviews
One of our best short holidays ever!
This world heritage site is perfect for people who want to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures offered by this island paradise. However, Arajilla Retreat made our stay even more special.
We were very comfortable in our lovely room that was kept spotless by the housekeeping staff and we found all staff friendly and helpful with any organisation of tours or information about the island. Both breakfast and lunch were al a carte and were very good (lunch could be eaten at the restaurant or a taken as picnic or BBQ ) but the evening menu, which changed each day was superb! Look out for King fish which is caught fresh by the chefs. The happy hour was wonderful for meeting other guests who were both international and "mainlanders".
We enjoyed being so close to Old Settlement Beach where we snorkelled each morning before breakfast and being able to easily reach the start of a couple of the tracks. Unlike most guests we did not use the bicycles that were available instead we were dropped off and picked up at arranged times by one of the groundsmen for walking tracks that were not close to the retreat.
Credit must be given to management behind the scenes for the smooth running of this property.

We visited Lord Howe Island in the off-season. It was a place that we were always interested in. We stayed at Arajilla Retreat as it was one of the few place available, had special rates for the off-season and the friendly conversation that my wife had when we booked convinced us to try it. We travelled independently, not on a third party " special package ". The meals were inspirational and the concept of catering for BBQ lunches, seafood or meat, where the esky was delivered to the wood BBQ and started for you was a wonderful treat. Michelle and Jake, who looked after us at different times, were outstanding and were great ambassadors for Arajilla. The ambience of the retreat was typical of Lord Howe, relaxed, warm and friendly. We will definitely return.

We stayed in Arajilla in Lord Howe for 5 nights in November.2020 as a late booking to getaway for a short break.
Our experience was fabulous from our arrival to departure.
We were greeted at the airport & transferred to Arajilla where we were given a light refreshment & checked into our room. Our room was very well maintained & spotless & kept that way for our stay by housekeeping.
The food was fabulous & the Chef’s were so creative that dishes presented like artwork & were tasty.Wines that were included in a package were of a good quality.
Staff were so friendly & genuinely happy & could not do enough to make our stay any better.
We loved the location of Arajilla as we could walk if we desired or ride our complimentary bikes to any location on the island easily. Bikes & snorkeling equipment was well maintained. The detail of thoughtfulness was great including 2 backpacks in our room ,2 beach chairs & if required a packed lunch to take with you or the option of a BBQ pack delivered to your designer BBQ location on Lord Howe.
This was our first but not last visit to Lord Howe & we would definitely reckon Arajilla as the place to stay.

Wow - an amazing place to relax and use as a base to explore Lord Howe. Great rooms - well fitted out and comfortable, fabulous staff that spend their days keeping you feed, watered and helping you enjoy the island, and great food (breakfast, lunch and dinner).
Start the day with a hearty breakfast, take a packed lunch, have a BBQ delivered to your chosen location, or head back to the resort for lunch and then the 5:30 canapés and cocktail of the day are a perfect way to end the day and get you ready for the 3 course dinner that follows.
Located close to Old Settlement Beach and a 5 minute walk to town, 15 minutes to Neds - it's a perfect place to be and relax!
Thanks to the team for a fabulous week.

A family holiday to Lord Howe Island booked 10 months in advance, we were not to be disappointed in our choice of accommodation at Arajilla Retreat. Exceptional accommodation staying in the Arajilla Suite with a little trek at our back door that took us to the serene Settlement Beach. Beach chairs, beach umbrella, beach towels , back packs and snorkelling gear all provided. A kitchenette with thoughtful touches of coffee pods and Nespresso machine and home made cookie chocolates and of course a stocked mini bar etc. The arrival at the airport to the check-in at Arajilla was nothing but welcoming and relaxed. All meals of exceptional standard and our prepared bbq pack was an option that I would recommend every guest try. Location was perfect and the grounds just beautiful. The housekeeping was beyond first class and last but not least, the Staff who were simply outstanding. Hope to see you next year!

After 4 attempts (3 for Arajilla) due to COVID cancellations we finally arrived at Lord Howe Island. We spent 7 nights there in the Banyan Suite only minutes from the beautiful Old Settlement Beach. Our priorities were doing some of the moderate walks (not Mt Gower) and seeing the birdlife and wildlife, and we managed to achieve much of what we wanted to do. In fact, in our case 5 nights would probably have been sufficient as we did not wish to go snorkelling or do any other water tours. Our accommodation was spacious, very comfortable and stylishly appointed, with beach towels, backpacks, umbrellas etc provided. Note however that there is no hairdryer (I did not bring my own). The restaurant is lovely and the meals are superb; as a vegetarian I had a beautiful selection each night for dinner. The staff- Ben, Hannah and Jana especially- are just brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. Normally we would not want 3 meals a day or a set menu but the food is impressive. During our stay there were a few issues, perhaps not unexpected in the first week after reopening but these were attended to immediately. We did not use the spa despite our intentions to (although we were in fact charged for 3 treatments on checkout but this was fortunately remedied straightaway!). Note that wifi is only available in the restaurant and main building and not in the suites and there is no mobile phone coverage which may be a problem for some. One suggestion we would make is that while there are blackout blinds in 2 areas of the suite there is nothing to prevent the light streaming in from the bathroom very early in the morning so perhaps something could be done there. On the whole though, we enjoyed our stay at Arajilla.

Went with 2 friends for 6 nights to celebrate a special birthday and to enjoy all the Lord Howe had to offer. Arajilla was a perfect place to start and finish each day. We stayed in the Banyan suite, which had plenty of space for the 3 of us, 2 single beds down stairs and a sofa bed up, a huge modern bathroom, sofa and chair downstairs and extra sofa up with a TV and DVD player (which we did not use as we were too tired each day after our island adventures). Comfort all round. There is a covered verandah looking out on a beautiful forest of Kentia palms.
There isn't any phone reception on the island (landlines are available) but isn't this what a island retreat is all about, getting away from everything. WiFi is available mainly in the restaurant area, however it can be accessed from the verandah.
The staff were absolutely wonderful, always communicating making sure our needs were being met. The food was superb, cocktails at 5.30, 3 course meals, great range of teas and coffee, a range of breakfast and lunch choice.
The cost does at first seem a lot but when you see the quality and quantity of what is available this is all in perspective. Also paying up front we didn't have to worry about what the costs were everyday. The island does have to ship everything in which increases the cost of living.
There were bikes available for us to use for our entire stay, which we definitely made use of, plus snorkels and fins. Settlement Beach is on the lagoon and just a short walk from the Retreat where we swam everyday and snorkelled out to a reef to see a great array of fish.
Overall I cannot praise Arajilla and their staff enough!

Loved the island a real surprise. Having travelled widely to discover this gem on our doorstep was wonderful.
Arajilla is well located, close to town, the jetty and the ‘Turtle Beach’
The rooms are nestled in a natural rainforest setting. We spent 4 nights in a Banyan suite and 6 in an Arajilla suite. The Arajilla suite was amazing and extremely private and quiet.
The restaurant was excellent, the food, especially dinner was superb and the service was friendly, helpful and efficient.
Lord Howe is a relatively expensive destination and we thought that Arajilla was good value.

It's reassuring to know that every aspect of Arajilla Retreat is given the care it deserves.
In addition to James, Ben, and Diesel, the entire food and beverage team, as well as the housekeeping staff, deserve special mention. Their attentiveness, professionalism, and warm hospitality made my stay truly special. They anticipated my needs and went out of their way to ensure my comfort and satisfaction. It's the little things, like the immaculate state of my room that truly sets Arajilla Retreat apart.
