Lord Howe Island is a beautiful part of NSW . We stayed at the Milky Way Villas in December 2021 for 11 nights, Family 3 adults.
Stayed in a 2 room Belmoreana Self contained unit. Milky Way Villas is situated near Old Settlement Beach. it is such a beautiful spot, where the Turtles come in. (saw quite a few turtles)
Had a great stay here. Our room had a king size bed (or you could have 2 singles) kitchenette with oven, microrwave, cooktop, sink. We got given a welcome pack eggs, bacon, milk, fruit. We had a beautiful outlook of the mountain, peaceful. Andrea was the perfect hostess. Came every morning to check if we needed anything or lift anywhere for dinner. Beach towels, soaps, shampoos were supplied.
the Blue Moon restaurant is here as well and we had a great meal here.
the second room has its own entry and back door off of the verandahs. (our son 19) so this was great as he had his own space, bathroom and kitchenette as well.
situated about 10 minute walk into main shop and Anchorage restaurant, or pushbike ride in.
There is also toilet and shower so if you leave on a afternoon flight you can still go off and do things and come back and shower before you leave.
we booked through a travel agent.
I highly recommend staying here it is beautiful. We loved our stay and I am hoping to go back in the near future. Thankyou to Andrea for being so welcoming and friendly and to Cissy who answered any questions or emails. Cannot recommend highly enough.

If you are looking for a bit of paradise on earth , come here. Perfect location and friendly hosts. Accommodation is basic but has everything you could possibly wish for. Hosts will take you free of charge into town to local restaurants for evening meals. Island itself is wonderful. Didn’t want to leave.

We loved staying at this laid back and friendly place. It felt like home and was able to meet all our requirements. There was good wifi…. Not common on the island, the unit was spacious and thoughtfully equipped, and the restaurant was the best of all we visited, with beautiful fresh seafood and ample portions. Location is very good, right opposite a quiet protected beach, and on the main lagoon road, up the end where it’s quiet but with easy access by bike without having to ride up hills. Supplies were available on request. The value for money was excellent and we would definitely stay here again.

We spent a week at Milky Way and thoroughly enjoyed it. A great place to relax and unwind.
It was so quiet without any traffic and the beach/bush so close.
The villas are well appointed, have comfortable bedding and facilities, and are most convenient to all the LHI shops and walks and beaches from the lagoon northward.
We were greeted with a 'breakfast' pack that lasted a few days and appreciated Jozette's personal service each morning as she requested if we needed any help with transport and anything else. It was a truly personal service.
Both the lagoon and Ned's Beach are great places to snorkel (corals, fish of many different sizes., turtles, and sea grasses) and Old Settlement is good for turtles.
The units themselves are set in a tropical garden with many mature trees and palms both just outside your unit and surrounding the property.
We were able to do a loop walk from Milky Way to Ned's Beach, up onto Malabar (209m) and along the cliff tops to Kim's lookout (182m) and then down along the Max Nichols' path to Old Settlement beach - about 4kms with some steep sections but worth the effort. Many views from the cliff tops or birds wheeling below, of native orchids along the track and different vegetation and rock types.
We hired bikes for the week ($60 each from Wilson's Hire). These were so useful as we cycled to coffee at the Coral Café, the museum attached to it, Joy's place nearby for supermarket requirements and souvenirs, and the start of a variety of walks in the middle of the island.

We just spent 10 nights staying at Milky Way after having first visited the island about 2 years ago for 4 nights (staying elsewhere on the island). We were absolutely thrilled to bits with our stay at Milky Way. The first 7 nights were spent in the Belmoreana, then due to limited availability we switched to the Mooreii for the last 3 nights. Having visited the island before (and stayed at the top of a big hill), we had a bit of an idea on the accommodation location, and in our opinion Old Settlement Beach is perfect! It’s a short 10 minute walk to the main street (even quicker on a bike) and only a couple of very slight hills. Being out of the main street also means it’s incredibly peaceful and secluded. Having Old Settlement Beach so close is wonderful. It’s a lovely calm area to swim and snorkel, with fabulous bbq facilities right by the beach. The accommodation itself did not disappoint! The Belmoreana was even better than we expected. It was extremely spacious, clean, private, and had an absolutely beautiful outlook. The bbq facilities were well-maintained and the free laundry much appreciated (even laundry detergent is provided!) Andrea and all the staff are friendly and helpful. The Mooreii room was smaller but still comfortable and clean. We can’t wait to return to Lord Howe and Milky Way villas again!

My husband and I recently spent 2 nights at Milky Way Villas due to being stuck on Lord Howe because of flooding on the mainland. This was the only accommodation available to us and while we were shocked at the high cost ($380 per night) we were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived at this accommodation, esp considering it was only $70 more than Somerset Apartments which were, at best, very average. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful, even asking if we had dinner reservations and organising this for us. They delivered messages to us from our airline regularly. The one bedroom apartment we had was amazing!! Extremely large, very well appointed, comfortable bed/pillows, beautifully refurbished bathroom, huge lounge and TV, quiet and private with amazing views over beautiful lawns and Malabar and Kims Lookout. My advice to anyone would be to pay the extra to stay at Milky Way Villas if this is at all possible for you. It is WELL worth it. Beautiful location just a little way out of the “CBD” and right across the road (100m) from beautiful Old Settlement Beach. Loved our stay at Milky Way Villas and just very sorry we didn’t spend our whole trip here! Didn’t get to eat at the restaurant as it is only open 2 nights a week but were told the food was fantastic by others on the island. HIGHLY recommend Milky Way.

Another fabulous holiday at Milky Way. If you are reading this and wondering weather to book, go ahead and do it. We have been coming here for years. On our first trip we wondered weather it might be a bit out of town. that was a laugh as it is a 10 minute walk and it is also situated right on one of the ost beautiful beaches on the island, Settlement beach where Turtles come in to feed on the sea grass. Self catering is our thing and the units are very comfortable and well equipped. The staff are fantastic, checking each morning to see if you need anything, would like a booking for dinner, assisting with information.. The restaurant here, open Mon & Fri, is also a favourite. This time we brought family with us and my sister wants to hide in the palm trees rather than leave! Thank you to Josette and the team on site and Cissy for all the booking help. We will be back!

We had a fabulous time on Lord Howe Island for our honeymoon staying at the Milky Way holiday villas. This is the perfect place to stay because it is located at the end of the island, away from everything but sill close to the main hub of shops, you are surrounded by nature with bush walks on your doorstep to take you to stunning lookouts and locations, you have old settlement beach right there which is literally the villas own private beach with the lack of people around. The accomodation is clean and comfortable with all your needs taken care of. Staff are friendly and helpful and leave you in peace to enjoy your stay. Stunning island, great accomodation. Highly recommend.

Stayed for 3 nights. In a word - amazing. Jozette was fantastic, so helpful and just so friendly. They had a breakfast welcome pack and fresh fruit in the rooms. Jozette arranged for dinner in the onsite restaurant the first night. Great restaurant. And after that drove us to our dinner bookings. The rooms, 2 rooms, 2 single beds were comfortable. The rooms were great, everything worked well. Like a small one-bedroom apartment. The beach is a short walk, and the main street is about 10 min walk. Loved this place, highly recommend it.

Stayed in a one bedroom apartment with toilet/shower and separate kitchen/living room . Had a balcony . Stayed for 6 nights . Very clean and comfortable the rooms were cleaned but you had to arrange this with the staff in the morning .On arrival the fridge had some eggs ,bacon ,milk and sachets of coffee and teabags ,but for the first day only . There was 2 washing machines which were for guest use . Very near Old Settlement beach ,the jetty and not too far from the main hub ,a short walk away or an even shorter bike ride . Free transport provided by the villas to restaurants in the evening if required . The restaurants would take you back after dining Staff were polite and friendly , they would visit in the morning to each villa to see if anything was required . All in all a very enjoyable stay at the Milky Way !

Thank you for your review, we love our location right next to Old Settlement Beach .The rooms are self contained and only serviced if you stay longer than 7 days. The food package is complimentary and for your first day only, until you can get to the grocery store. Staff pop around each morning to see if you require fresh towels or dinner reservations etc. I have passed your review onto our awesome staff.
