The park is just a short 2.5 hour drive on the highway north of Sydney and only 50 minutes from Newcastle. BIG4 Karuah Jetty is one of the most tranquil holiday parks in the area. It boasts a 250 metre long private jetty ideal for a stroll, fishing or mooring your boat. Our facilities include acres of grass with an fun kids playground, indoor games room, full tennis court, volleyball court and a 20 metre long inflatable jumping pillow. Arrived here in our camper van & we’re greeted with a smile by Trish… 😊 Great start in my book… we are here for a 3 night stay just to go fishing & relax. We scored a great mid week special with an ensuite site, which was very clean and tidy.. thank you to the team of cleaners & maintenance staff who do a wonderful job maintaining a high standard in the park. The area is very nice overall with camp kitchen, TV room & lounge area provided.. the BBQ’s were clean and the kitchen tidy. The pool looked clean & inviting… I’m yet to dip a toe in though, haha. It was very peaceful and the park was not full so we enjoyed the vibe a lot. People were friendly and I recon we might just be back again sometime soon.

The cabins were disappointingly dim, with cobwebs and bugs, contrary to the advertised cleanliness. Park facilities were dilapidated, not as promised online. The jetty had unstable, broken planks, making it unsafe for kids and the elderly. Neglected gardens added to the unsatisfactory experience. Despite our group of family and friends hiring four cabins after traveling interstate, our stay was cut short due to these issues. However, the receptionist was understanding and apologetic, suggesting this wasn’t their first encounter with such complaints.

Thank you for your feedback Cynthia and we appreciate your acknowledgment of our receptionist's understanding and apologetic approach. Your concerns were addressed as soon as they were brought to our attention and we tried to rectify them. As we were unable to reach a resolution, a refund was provided for the remainder of your stay for your early departure. As you noted, we are typically praised for our high levels of cleanliness, so we were sad to learn that your cabins were not presented to our usual high standards. The jetty, while being private, is regularly maintained and certified annually to meet all safety standards. Our gardens are lovingly tended to by our grounds team, who also regularly maintain all our facilities, so we were surprised by this feedback as we often receive compliments on the quality of the park surrounds. We are sorry that your stay did not meet with your expectations. We appreciate your input, and we'll continue working to ensure all our guests have a comfortable and enjoyable experience with us.

A very friendly lady helped me booking the site while we were on the road with very little cellphone coverage. Late arrival? No problem! We stayed here for a night on a powered campsite and we found that to be a great experience. Standing next to the amenities building, we did not think that this gave any noise. The amenities themselves were clean. Friendly people around the campground.

The park is great, clean, ample parking at suites, staff were accommodating. The only negative is the Karuah area, it is somewhat of a drive from neighbouring suburbs Nelson’s bay is a 50 minute drive. There isn’t much facilities or activities in Karuah, standard IGA, few takeaway shops, butchery and bottle shop that shut early and some days aren’t open. If you have a boat the Karuah river is a great system for boating activities and fishing.

Thank you also for noting that the Karuah River is great for boating and fishing, which we wholeheartedly agree with! We're sorry to see you found the local town area to be a negative, though many guests do see that as a positive to get away from the hustle and bustle of the busier tourist areas. Beautiful quaint place amidst nature and just by the Karuah River. We were expecting a lot of noise just because of the crowd after Christmas but it was nothing like that. There were caravan vans and tents and everything was fully booked, yet the it was peaceful and the charm of the place blew our minds away. Very friendly people in general and staff at Big4 in particular. Recommended.

Stayed 4 nights mid December, wanting to look around the Port Stephens area. Great little park on the river, nice and quiet. All amenities were spot on, and close to sites. Plenty of things for the kids to do. Town has everything you need for a stay, only a couple of minutes walk from the park. 30-40 mins drive to Nelson bay and Anna bay, easy day trips to do some sightseeing and activities like sandboarding. Nice spot tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the larger tourist places

Very pleasant and restfull park with spotless amenities and adequate camp kitchen. Adequate number of covered BBQ'S. Good for children with very good playground. They also have a pool jumping pillow, tennis court and volleyball court. Some grass sites are muddy in wet weather.

It was very difficult to find the number of our site but, with the help of a neighbor, we scraped away some recently added soil to reveal it. Just as well we were only staying overnight as one of the playground fixtures makes an horrific loud roaring noise - making it very difficult to enjoy our meal outside whilst watching the sunset. A walk on the jetty proved to be rather scary as a boardwalk heading in a different direction to the jetty was in much need of repair but was not closed off from the public as it should have been. The jetty was also very much in need of maintenance. Currently a kids movie is being screened very loudly ….great for kids but we’d like to hear our TV!! ….we have solid walls and no windows open.

Hi Julie, We were sad to receive your review on google and learn that you were not happy with your stay. Our team is always available for a chat and we appreciate the opportunity to make your stay an enjoyable one. It is the NSW school holidays at the moment and as such, we have many families with kids staying with us in the park and organised kids activities running. We are very sorry that this is not the atmosphere you expected. If possible, our team would have looked into moving you to an alternative site away from the kids activities. With regards to the concerns you expressed around the jetty – it does meets all requirements with Council and is regularly maintained. The boardwalk over the mangroves was unfortunately broken recently and has been repaired yesterday. Please accept our sincere apologies that you had difficulty finding your site number and we hope we can welcome you back outside of school holidays for a more relaxing experience next time.

Good lean amenities. Nice location. Lovely hosts. Drive thru sites were very uneven and muddy. Rsl easy walk or they will pick up. Wouldn't recommend for 1 night but other sites look good. Would stay again but not in a drive thru site
