Detailed Reviews
After being turned away by Nimbo Fork Lodge for having a child, we were in Southern NSW without a hotel room, and thankfully, Flash Jacks came to the rescue.
Caught in-between Tumut and Gundagai without mobile service, we decided to drive to Gundagai as I knew Flash Jacks was there. I pulled into the carpark, with the intention of walking in reception and booking a room on the spot, only to find they are completely contactless. I called the listed number, and within minutes I was booked into a gorgeous room, and provided the code for door entry.
The lady on the phone I spoke to (apologies, her name eludes me), sorted everything out in minutes, offered us the larger room at a reduced rate and texted me traveller info for the region.
The room itself is beautifully renovated/restored, with high ceilings, an open and relaxing bathroom and in Room 8, an incredible day bed in the bay window cavity with amazing views.
The hotel is around the corner from Sheridan Street, so everything is walking distance.
My only recommendation is the bathroom needs a shelf for toiletries - even a collapsible one.
Other than that - we had a wonderful stay and are so grateful for Flash Jacks helping us our of a difficult spot!

Now open in the renovated former convent school, Flash Jack's certainly brings a new level of boutique luxury to rural Gundagai. Located an easy walk to the main street and hotels for meals. An onsite restaurant is currently being built and should also be a 'next level' dining experience for this historic town. My room (3) was spacious and quiet and tastefully decorated. The WiFi was solid and fast. Two points of note: 1) the bathroom floors are slippery when wet, but the hosts are aware of this and working fast to remedy, and 2) the vehicle access is a bit tight at the entry gate, so proceed slowly. If you're driving a big SUV, breathe in! Check-in is certainly contactless as you are provided a key code by SMS for room access. No cards or keys to lose.

Thanks for your review. The restaurant has been delayed due to covid, we are about to implement in room dining for breakfast and lunch in partnership with our friends at the coffee Peddlar. We have addressed the floors which seem to be a problem for our older guests even though they are above the building code rating for slip. Hopefully the product we’re using makes them a bit more grippy. The gate is a bit thinner than newer ones but we’ve had large trucks in there so I’m sure you had a bit more room than you thought 😊. Hope to see you again 👍🏻

I found this little beauty while panic-scrolling accommodation three days out from driving from Sydney to Melbourne. Was very nearly deterred by the lack of ensuite in the only remaining room (there is a private bathroom directly across the hall). Fortunately this didn’t detract at all from our stay. The chic rustic simplicity of the decor, matched with a deliciously comfortable bed, a large and pristine bathroom and a quiet location conveniently close to the M31 all added up to a restful night. Keyless access meant that our late arrival presented no problems. And host Kristy’s recommendation of the Coffee Pedaler for breakfast was a winner. Two eggs Benedict and a couple of great coffees later, we were back on the road. Wish we’d had time to linger.

Advantages: The location is very good. Flash Jacks is within easy walking distance of the main street and eateries. Our room was spacious, and good to have a separate living room. We were a couple in a room that could cater for 4 people, so we were very comfortable.
The decor was fresh and the handicapping in the gardens very appealing. This is a lovely renovation of a historic building
Disadvantages: We had an upstairs room and the staircase, for our room alone had no railing. You need to be very sure-footed. The bathroom tiles were slippery when wet (which is what happens in bathrooms!) and there were no rails or fittings to steady yourself. They did provide a wooden slatted mat to use in the shower and I recommend that you do. The basin in the bathroom was tiny.
It was my first experience with no-contact check in and we had difficulty getting the push-button door locks to work. After a telephone call, someone came to sort out the locks and everything was ok after that.

Yeah sorry. I had to get permission for a hand rail to upstairs because of the fire regulations and silly building code. I’ve got that now, now I just need to snaffle one of the busy builders… The tiles have had a product added to them that’s improved the grip. We fo have an accessible room for those who aren’t too sure in their feet. Thanks for your feedback, hope yo see you again soon.

The hotel check in was contactless and parking easy. The girls at Kimo were very efficient with their messages and responses to queries. The sofa bed was the best I have ever slept on and was beautifully prepared when we got there. The place was spotless and it all look newly renovated. The church bells next door did not ring early on Sunday morning which was a blessing of sorts. Great location near Sheridan Street. All in all a great overnight stay. Breakfast picked up from Coffee Pedlar was outstanding - their coffee was fantastic.

We have stayed at this hotel three times in the last year the first time we stayed as a couple and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. we love the style and history behind the building and the way that the accommodation has been updated without taking away from the charm.
Our last two however have been with our young children in the family room. I wouldn’t recommend more than one night stay for a young family or a group staying in the family room. The fold-out couch is incredibly uncomfortable even for children and the mattress on it desperately needs to be replaced. The door to the room does not close properly and the light outside in the hallway Is on 24/7 which means it leaks into the room at night time. The shower is also very hazardous, I had noted previous reviews mentioning this so we had brought our own sticky bath mat, however the water from the shower goes everywhere making it extremely slippery.
If we are travelling as a couple again we wouldn’t hesitate to stay, however, we won’t be staying as a family anytime soon.
It’s worth noting, the parking is plentiful and easily accessible and communication has been fantastic every time. Literally around the corner from everything in town and a 20min drive from the sir George which is the best option for food (coffee peddler is great for breakfast or coffee) in our opinion.

This is such a beautiful property and recently lovingly restored and decorated. The communication from Kristy beforehand and the concierge app adds to such a good experience. The toiletry products are lovely. The beds were the most comfortable on our 24 day trip. Kristy’s care and responsiveness as manager of the property was really appreciated. Good parking and if you have an electric Porsche there is two charging stations! We would highly recommend if you are looking for a boutique luxury accommodation on your way from Sydney to Melbourne

Wonderful motel in Gundagai. We stayed on our way to Melbourne to break up our trip.
It was a little difficult to find, as the GPS takes you to the sidestreet, not the entrance. In the dark, I can imagine the entrance would be almost invisible due to very small signals on the pillars.
Once inside, though, the rooms are spacious and welcoming. The decor is very inviting and gives you the feeling of an old English manor.
There was no wardrobe in our room, so if you're here for more than a couple of nights, you might be inconvenienced.
One thing we would have liked was a small bin in the main room. There is only one in the bathroom, so disposing of teabags, etc. needs to be considered.
All in all, a really nice place, comfortable bed and nice bathroom.

+1
We stayed in the King family room (room 9) located at the back of the property, up the stairs on the top floor. Contactless check in was convenient and information (check in code) was clear.
The sofa bed was made up for our son (this need to be requested before check in), however, there were only 2 sets of towels for 3 people. As we were staying only one night it wasn't an issue. The room has a small balcony looking into the First avenue.
Pros
Nice boutique hotel with contactless check in. Perfect location, close to shops and short drive to the lookouts. Great selection of channels (disney+, netflix) which was super handy. Nice comfy bed. Sofa bed was a bit squeaky.
SMEG kettle was good.
Nice Leif toiletries.
Cons:
The Smeg fridge handle was literally coming off the door.
The bathroom has been renovated for looks but not for safety. The bathroom floor is super slippery when wet especially in the shower. The wooden floor rack that is provided is not even so you need to be super careful. The basin is super tiny that means water will splash everywhere. The glass shelf is super fragile. The whole bathroom is an accident waiting to happen. I hope management will make some changes.

I will get the staff to check the fridge door, thanks for the heads up. Sorry about the missing towel, our staff are usually perfect but this must have been missed. The couch bed has been replaced because someone’s kids were jumping on it and broke the mechanism. We put the shelf in because somebody complained about a lack of shelves, it’s hard to keep everyone pleased but I will have a look at it on my next visit. The tiles are 2 levels of slip above building code standard and we coat them with a product to make them even “grippier”, might be time for another coat. We have another room that has the highest rated non slip (room 3) for future reference if mobility is an issue for you. I’m glad overall you enjoyed your stay.

Having been a resident of Gundagai, and now coming back for a visit, I was excited to stay at Flash Jacks, the converted convent in the centre of town. Knowing what a great job the owners had done revitalising Kimo Estate, I had high hopes!
The renovation has been done really beautifully, very simple and stylish and so comfortable. I had a queen balcony room, and experienced none of the issues others have noted. The room had access on to the verandah, and I loved sitting out there in the late afternoons. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, all amenities were provided, and there was space to put my suitcase and unpack a few items. No wardrobe but none needed! Plenty of power points for charging devices. The bathroom was spacious and lovely, and the Leif products are beautiful. The heating was very efficient - too efficient for me so it stayed off most of the time, but it would be excellent for someone who did not like the cold! I loved the pull cords for the light switches :). I suppose access would be a bit difficult if you had a lot of bags or struggled with mobility, but my main concern was that I walked a little mud in from the wet carpark.
Access arrangements were provided by SMS on the morning of my booking, and everything worked perfectly. The internet is very fast and the television has all the streaming services. I didn't use any of the other services (such as breakfast) that were offered, as Flash Jacks is only a few minutes' walk from the Coffee Pedlar and other dining options in Gundagai.
Be aware that it is an old building and therefore if you have noisy fellow guests, you will hear them. But it's all part of the charm!
There's no question that it is quite a lot more expensive than the other accommodation options in Gundagai, but it is a completely different experience. If you are looking for something a bit different to the usual highway motel, Flash Jacks is definitely worth a try.
