We absolutely loved our stay in the Avon cottage. Sue and Paul were such welcoming hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. Sitting on the deck, overlooking the river with a glass of wine was the perfect school holiday getaway for our group of teachers. With beautiful greenery around all the cabins too, it was easy to forget that there was even anyone else nearby. The cabins are a short drive from town, making it easy to pop in for a look around the lovely township of Gloucester. We cannot wait to come back again!
Wonderful stay with charming hosts Paul & Sue who could not have been more helpful and friendly. Very comfortable accommodation, beautiful surrounding countryside and the pretty town of Gloucester which has some good shopping possibilities.
We have been talking about a getaway to Barrington Hideaway for quite a while and we finally did it. What an amazing place, we stayed in Dilgry Cottage. The cottages are well equipped with a great outdoor area and barbecue. We spent a beautiful afternoon sitting on the deck and checking out the river. There is a wonderful walk along the river, unfortunately we didn’t see a platypus. We ordered a BBQ hamper which was so delicious. We also had a breakfast hamper which was also yummy. We loved everything about it. Sue was a delight. We can’t wait to go back.
Spent a few nights here in one of the beautiful cottages called Kerripit. The cottage was very clean and spacious and because of the very cold days we encountered, the warmth from the air-conditioner was welcome. The cottage was 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom and with 3 adults it was easily big enough. The furniture and bedding was comfortable and we appreciated everything the kitchen contained down to the full sized fridge and microwave. The cottages sit right on the river and it was just so relaxing for us Sydney folk. Booking experience to checking in was very unobstrusive and it was good to know that Sue wasn't far away should we have any questions. Mum loved the gift of jam also - so thank you. Our only little request is possibly a light over your sign at the front gate at night just so we can find our way back home easier !! Had a great time though - thank you and would definately recommend.…
We had a wonderful 2 nights here with our two teenagers. The cabin was very comfortable but the the spot to be is sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee looking out over the gums and the river. Sue and Peter were very thoughtful hosts - the pre-booked breakfast hamper was lovely, and we also enjoyed the barbecue for dinner. There was plenty of great birdlife around (we saw around 30 different birds) and the short river walk was beautiful. We left with very fond memories of our stay.
Totally organised by hubby, our 2 night stay at Barrington Hideaway River Cottages was a dream! In the words of Darryl Kerrigan, “how’s the serenity”... there was an abundance of it. Sitting on the verandah or river bank, taking in the landscape and listening to the wildlife was beautifully simple and calming. We loved the fact there was no wifi - a great opportunity to unplug and decompress. Sue was easy to deal with; her written communication was prompt and easy to follow. Finding the cottages was simple, even in 9:45pm darkness! We appreciated the hearty breakfast supplies and stretched them out with our own staples. Preparing & cooking meals was easy in the well stocked kitchen and I was thankful for the full size hair dryer and luxurious body products. We were proud to spend our tourist dollars in this region. The area is very dry. Primarily beef & dairy cattle, it seems some locals are doing it tough. The red earth is held together by yellowed vegetation. The Barrington River is low and other water sources are bone dry. Pops of colour are scarce, but remarkable among xanthous hues. There is such beauty in the harshness of the rural environment, but this comes at a price for those who choose to make their living off the land. Please visit this beautiful region and support those that support our nation! Barrington Hideaway Cottages are a perfect base for exploring the region. …
My husband & I were gifted a night away from the kiddies & what a great place they sent us to! The drive is stunning & not far from our home at Salamander Bay. On arrival there was no checking in, which we loved, the cabin was clean & had everything we needed for a relaxing night! Town was close enough that we ducked out for a nice (quiet without our toddlers!) Dinner and returned to movies in the warm cabin! We needed some assistance in the morning & Carol arrived with hubby in minutes! The river is gorgeous, the cabin is great & the service/supplies are all great quality, right down to the best shower head ever!! 1 tip though, warn guests of the electric fence haha, i read the booklet after the fact, my husband found it hysterical though so no point deducted for my silliness! Thanks so much for providing such a great getaway location, we will certainly be back, with or without the kiddies :) Oh & thank you so much for the much appreciated late check out!…
Barrington Hideaway is a great place to stay if you want to get away from it all, enjoy the sights and sounds of nature without having to rough it. Our family of four had a very comfortable 2 night stay in Dilgry cottage. The cottage was clean and well maintained. The deck overlooking the river was the perfect spot to relax. It was lovely to hear the sound of the river and watch the birds. All four cottages on the property were booked but each cottage had complete privacy and quiet. Our two teens enjoyed a splash in the river and we enjoyed making a fire in the communal fire pit and toasting marshmallows in the fire. The stars were amazing. Gloucester is only a five minute drive and there is a IGA, Woolies, bakery, butcher and bottle-o. The cottage has a small Weber on the deck and a well equipped kitchen (but no oven). Small touches such as providing oil, salt, pepper, cling wrap, foil and paper towels were much appreciated, as were the complimentary bottles of water as the cold tap water was from the rain tank. The coffee to make plunger coffee was also appreciated. I think a map showing how to access the river would be helpful. The first time we went to the river, we walked down a path that was a bit slippery and narrow in places but found a much easier way to access the river (stairs on the boundary of the property) when we got to the swimming spot. It would also be convenient if there were some canoes on site to borrow or hire. Overall it was an enjoyable stay.…
Amazing clean comfortable fully stocked modern friendly. Thanks to owner Sue who went out of her way to welcome us (and feed us) What a beautiful retreat- next time I will spend more than just the night passing through. Plenty to see in the mountains around Gloucester so anchor yourself here. Just make sure you get back to your cottage in time to watch the sun go down behind the mountains. Don’t miss the platypus in the early morning feeding in the river below either. And weather permitting make some new friends by the roaring outdoor fire - hi Matt and Tennille. Thanks again Sue.
Four, two bedroom cabins sitting above a beautiful, clear stream reportedly containing platypus (not seen unfortunately). The nights are stunning - the vast array of stars making up the milky way will easily mistaken for clouds they are so dense. The surrounding countryside is picture perfect. Just 2km away at the Kia Ora lookout you can look over the whole valley (including your accomodation) or take a trip to the world heritage Barrington Tops. The cabins are simple but functional and very comfortable. Reverse cycle airconditioning makes them comfortable in winter or summer and the hosts are most hospitable.
