Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Bed comfy, room air conditioner, small but quaint rooms. Refurbished bathroom, nicely done.

Bit of traffic noise, but to be expected as on the main road.

Friendly and welcoming staff. Close to good food

Had the family room on the front. Very comfortable and handy to park stay and go next day. Retro feeling in bygone era. Managers very accomodating. Recreation park in front, hotel dining two minute walk away.

We broke down and we had to stay overnight.
The office lady was very helpful and went out of her way to help us get things sorted. We had no phone service (Vodafone) and the staff let us use the office phone to make several calls to organise getting hone and getting our car home. The staff on duty went over and beyond to help us and were very friendly.
The rooms were small but tidy. Newly renovated shower area and working air con. There is a microwave, Tv , hair dryer, ceiling fan and wifi.
The bed was a little hard but ok.
The office is unattended until 2pm, just a heads up for those arriving earlier.
Parking is good and off street.
There is a pub just up the street with very good pub food if you need a feed . A small Spar supermarket and a couple of cafes and a bakery next door.

We booked two rooms for a one night stay. We arrived just before 2pm to find office closed til 3pm. Rang the number on door to be told by manager that she would have to get someone to come in early to check us in. After I made our booking weeks before, I made several calls to ask for a confirmation to be emailed to us. I finally received an SMS as a confirmation. Reading other people's reviews,I find that this was happening 2 years ago.Why weren't we told that check in was at 3pm. When a lady did arrive at 2.30pm, she told me that she was supposed to be there at 2pm. My daughter & granddaughter were in a room with a queen & single bed.It was freezing outside & my daughter had air conditioner on for 1/2 hour & room still cold. The rooms need draught stoppers as the gap under the doors is huge.My granddaughter got under the bed cover of single bed to watch TV but slept in queen bed with her mother. We went on to Dubbo Zoo next morning & I was really annoyed when arriving there we received an email for an invoice for $25 with no explanation as to why. The manager couldn't send me a booking confirmation but very quickly sent me one for $25. After getting her mobile number I spoke to her & was told the $25 was to wash ALL BED LINEN from the single bed because of current infectious control reasons & for the extra time for staff to re-make that bed as it had been slept in.I told her my granddaughter had been under the cover to watch TV as the room was so cold. No motel washes all bed linen & even if we had all just sat on that bed then the cover should be washed. She said she couldn't make me pay but later sent another email pleading her case & saying I could ring later should I choose to pay.Our happy day at the Zoo was definitely spoilt then. I did ring & paid the $25 because we are decent people but we will never stay there again & wouldn't advise anyone else to do it. The customer service is definitely lacking & under current conditions our rooms should have been spotless.

Not a bad spot for a weekend exploring the local area. 55 mins to Dubbo & the zoo, 30mins to Gulgong & its history & 30 to beautiful Coolah.
The Swan isn't luxury, but apart from B&B's its the place to stay. In the heart of town, a short stroll to local shops including a great Vietnamese bakery.
Just out of town on the Gulgong road is Birriwa Station & The Memorial Gardens at the grave of SC John Ward who was killed by our Chinese Bushranger Sam Poo.

We expected much better considering the other reviews . Overpriced tiny room Queen bed and single jammed into room designed as a double only . Could just squeeze around one side of bed . Only want to have a comfortable bed , and decent shower this room delivered neither. No support in mattress keep following to the middle ,smoke detector was broken and bed lights not working . Able to hear other guests in adjoining room and road noise . Spoke with another couple who also stayed overnight who also voiced the same concerns as us . Unable to park outside your room. Would not stay here again . Highlight was a great country meal at the pub nearby .

Hi Val, Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, as the motel is 30 years old and I am the 3rd owner, I am not privy to the intended design layout, but I have owned the Swan Motel for 13 years now, and I have to say this is the first complaint I have seen in that time about the layout and bed configuration. Some of the rooms have only a queen bed for those only requiring that size. There may have been several circumstances surrounding your room allocation that night. All I can do i apologise for the lack of comfort of the bed, again another first for complaint, as i have had dozens of people contact the motel to ask what mattresses we use as they were so comfortable. I am not sure what the issue with the shower was, but all bathrooms have been renovated since. I was unaware that the smoke detector wasnt working as they are serviced monthly as i was unaware that the bed light wasnt working. For future reference, can i suggest that you advise reception of these issues as they are easily fixed on the spot to make for a more enjoyable stay. Unfortunately, hearing the movements of your close neighbours is a down side to staying in most motels, and there is nothing much i can do about that, I to frequent motels, and have the same issue, but have learnt that it is part and parcel of staying in motels. As we are situated on the Golden Highway another issue that is beyond my control is the road noise. In saying this, we do have rooms located well away from the road, but again, the circumstances surrounding your booking may have meant that all the other rooms were already booked or occupied. As for the parking outside your room, there is a driveway width between your room and where the vehicles park, again, due to the size of the lot, and the existing layout, I am unable to change this to park directly outside the door of your room. Please be assured that all of your complaint items have been taken under advisement, and those within my control have been checked and repaired where required, but unfortunately there are a few things that are beyond my control and I have to come to terms with that fact that I just cant please everyone. I hope that I have addressed all of your complaints and we really do hope that you reconsider your stance on "not staying here again" as we would welcome you back with the view to allocating you one of the back rooms to assist in noise department of your complaint.

This town is the closest town to the next town, where no hotel is open anymore. To have things done in next town, this is the last place you can expect a bed to sleep after long hours driving. Shops close by. Very convenient and economic.

Stayed here the other night and I was very impressed with how clean our room was. For the price the room really exceeded our expectations. It was small but was very comfortable and had everything you would need for a night or two away from home. We will definitely stay again when we are next out at Dunedoo.
