Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This motel is quiet and well-appointed, despite being on the busy Newell Highway. The owners are friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable. The only drawbacks were the lighting and the WiFi. The one overhead light in the room was so dim we had to turn on all the bedside reading lamps and mirror light just to be able to read and see what we were doing. The WiFi is unreliable and kept dropping out all evening - we had to stand at the door to get a continuous signal. It’s one of those where you have to log on with your room number and name, and when we went to use it at 7am the next morning there was a message saying there was no record of this booking, so we weren’t able to plan the day's trip, despite checkout time being 10am. This really needs to be rectified, as it was the only motel in our entire trip from Armidale to Lightning Ridge and Moree where we encountered WiFi problems.

We stayed here on a trip south. We arrived at 7:30 and was told the restaurant closed at 8:00pm. We had been on the road for 10 hours so decided to eat at the restaurant rather than go out again.
Big mistake!
My wife and I each order what was advertised as a filet steak with vegetables. The price was $32.50. Now that is what I would expect to pay in a restaurant so expected the best. I ordered medium.
I can’t recall being so disappointed in a meal. The steak was so thin it would have been impossible to cook it medium, but the vegetables were the worst. They looked and tasted like they had been cooked then reheated multiple times. The mixture of broccoli and carrots was almost a paste. It was pretty disgusting. And for that I had been charged $32.50 a plate.
The room was good. Clean and comfortable and the air conditioner wored a treat (the outside temperature was over 40 degrees)
I would recommend Matthew Flinders for the accommodation but steer clear of the restaurant.

A basic hotel with quiet rooms. Meals are available on site which is handy after a long drive and we enjoyed our stay. Staff were friendly and helpful although the flashing light in the courtyard was bemusing

I have no idea how this place has a 4 star rating.
I should leave this review at that as the issues are too numerous to mention.
Suffice to say I won’t be staying here ever again
The one positive is that it has a fire alarm
I suspect people smoke in the room and that explains the sickly crying sweet smell in the room.

First impression of room, rubbish was not removed from previous stay including full boxes next to the bin. Ordered pizza and let reception know who was apologetic however asked us to put out front which we refused as I didn’t want to be touching other people’s rubbish. Shower was hot and nice however soap and other products had been used and not replaced, we had our own so was not a problem. This unfortunately had us second guessing using anything else in the room like glasses etc which we didn’t. Bed was comfortable. TV had footy channels and Pizza was great!! After 9 hours driving it was a ok stay. Though wouldn’t stay again though. I. COVID time attention to detail should be better.

Oh my gosh, where to start. I'll make it brief. Unfortunately, we were desperate as we'd been driving all day and we couldn't get a room anywhere else. We arrived to find knee high grass around the pool and an extremely unkempt property. Upon walking in the room we saw a mouse scurrying in the corner and rat sack on the counter next to the toaster! What more can I say. We called the manager at 830pm (granted, it was after hours), no response. Needless to say, we had to pull the bed sheets back to make sure there were no bed bugs because this place was far from clean and tidy which is all you really ask for when you just need a bed for the night. We did not sleep comfortably knowing how dirty it all is and couldn't even bring ourselves to have a cuppa before heading off for fear of catching something!
Sure it's been tough times in the bush for business but there's not excuse for this. Sad and disappointing.

We stayed here on an organised tour, so I am not sure what the stay cost. We stayed in Room 27 which is on the highway side of the motel. This room had a queen bed and a single bed. With the motel being on a downgrade and a  speed zone change into town there was a fair amount of truck engine brakes during the night. This was on top of the noise coming from the fridge (sound like a pigeon in the room). The TV was small and quite old. There was plenty of bench space. The room definitely needed some care and maintenance. The sliding shower screen doors came off the tracks every time you tried to open or close it. The toilet leaked from the rubber connection (it looked it was replaced 30 years ago). The bed was OK and the shower had good pressure and was always hot (actually scalding hot).

We had a few meals in the restaurant though with 45 odd of us on the tour it was jammed pack.. which was a little uncomfortable in these COVID times.

I agree with another review that the pizzas were very good.
The only saving grace is that the staff were friendly and nothing was a problem.

Room 24 this time on our return journey.

More space due to bedding config (queen + 2 singles opposed to queen + 3 singles in rm 23).

Newer fridge and newer air con.

We ate at the restaurant on site and really enjoyed it. The kids meals came out first - hot, tasty and were demolished accordingly.

Our meals were great, T bone cooked very well, meat was so tender.

Excellent service from all staff who were very busy.

We recommend this hotel.

Room was lovely and clean. Bed was comfy. Service was lovely, friendly and informative. Price was very good. Really enjoyed the stay and it was off the main road so minimal noise overnight from the highway. Everything in the room worked. Would use it again

The room was a bit tired but comfy and so dark that we slept in! Neat, clean and well priced but on the edge of town. They offered a few selections for dinner aside from the pizza made on the premises and delivered to our room. It was delicious! Social distancing rules in place and sanitiser available at check-in.

Our room was a pet room but was perfectly fine for anyone without pets. The motel itself is set far enough away from the road to be very quiet and the pet owners around us were very responsible. No barking dogs and ask the staff were very friendly. The restaurant was fantastic value and very good quality. We loved our stay there.
