Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It’s up to 5 stars, isn‘t it? So let’s start with 5 stars and check all we love in tourist parks: • Cleanliness: given. Amenities were thoroughly cleaned. That’s fine. • Location: well, it’s Byron Bay. A good location in itself. The campground is in a green area, not too far from the beach. Fine again. • Amenities’ condition: well, they are a bit worn-out. A huge bit. The shower heads e.g. spray, but in many directions. Water hits you, but as well the ceiling, from where it slowly drippes back onto you … hmmm. In (at least one) of the showers there was a sign “do not mess with the shower heads, or they will be removed”. Interesting. The behaviour of the shower heads could be clearly identified of them just being old. And punishing later guests for any misbehaving of existing guests? Well, half a star has to be taken. • Services available: no pool, a single small camp kitchen for a lot of lots. Do not even think of W-LAN or a decent shop. Deduction of half a star. • Lots themselves: grass ground, a bit uneven, no concrete for table, chairs, … Another half star going away, unfortunately. • Supplies: Power only on lot. No water or grey water gully. Sorry, other campgrounds offer that. Minus ½, so we are down to three stars. • Costs: per person, per night. We paid 50 AUD per person per night, which is quite expensive for a campsite like this. Reducing by another ½. • Management: awful. You can’t book in advance, but are told “just pass by before 5 p.m., there’s plenty of empty space”. Arriving right before 5 p.m. the lady in the office has to radio the manager to ask if there’s still a powered site available. He doesn’t answer. She phones. He answers, and we can stay. For two nights, please. No, that’s not possible to be granted right now. Come back to the office the other morning and ask again. Apologies, because management is mainly done by pen and paper. Handover of a sticker to be put onto the car, which indicates our allowance for this night, and this night only. No dedicated lot, just “find yourselves a lot in this row” (where a lot , a LOT of empty spots were available, even though obviously some long-term customers watering their little gardens use up some spots). Sorry, but this costs another half star, which makes two. • Prolongation: the next morning at about 08:30 asking for the possibility to stay for a second night is considered “a bit early”. Seriously? If we’d had to leave we had to do it by 10 a.m. – and preparing for a leave is a bit different from a relaxed breakfast on site. In the end, we were allowed to stay, “handcuffed”, as we had to wear admittance bands on our wrists, and no, my husband couldn’t just take mine for me, I had to go to the office in person. The next sticker was handed over to us (pre-unwrapped as the other one, because it had to be stuck onto the vehicle IMMEDIATELY – causing my husband to walk back to the campervan with a sticky sticker on his hand, irritatedly shaking his head). Oh, that’s not good. • Manager himself: what an experience. Throughout the prolongation process he entered the office, and, well, he wasn’t the friendliest. Most irritating moment was when he asked about the number of our lot, he then stated that there was no such number. Sorry, mate, you were given the exact number written on our power supply. But, yeah, that’s peanuts. So only ½ star deducted for all the really unfriendly and unwelcoming interactions. Oh, now we are down to 1 star. It’s not possible to award less, so that’s it.

Rude abusive angry power tripping ranger responded to my husband with blatant lies! Neither of us drink. There’s videos of him online telling people to leave with no good reason. This place should NOT be open.

Don't ever stay here. Gross facilities. Felt unwelcome, even though I kept to myself. I was kicked out by the rudest most disgusting man I have ever come across, who thought he'd take his anger out on a woman on her own, much younger than he. Picking on a woman who should feel nothing but safe whilst on holiday. "We want you to leave" Who is ‘we’? He didn’t give me a reason. He threatened to call the police if I don't leave in 30minutes. Haha oldest scare/intimidation tactic in the book. I was out of there in 20. He has serious serious anger issues. The poor lady at the desk was very apologetic.

Angry abusive man on the biggest power trip ever, flying around in his ute all day and all night to just pick someone to yell at and swear at and kick out for no good reason what so ever. Threatens to call police to intimidate. Karma will catch up to him sooner or later this place should not be legally allowed to operate it is a dump cracked tiles mold everywhere disgusting poor excuse for a camp kitchen lonely residents living in tents, stay safe keep yourself, your friends, your kids safe, and do not stay here, steer clear, better off getting a fine for sleeping on the side of the road, seriously!

Belongil Fields has been my home for the past 2 months - that only happened thanks to its amazing environment. That environment only exists because Dave and everybody else work hard to keep the place like this. Every bad review you read is from somebody who broke the rules and was kicked out for it. The rules might be a bit harsh but it’s thanks to them that everybody feels safe here - we are a big family. Thank you Dave, Beck, Jimmy & all the beautiful people who make this place strive! You’ve all helped me when I most needed and that’s something I’ll never forget.

Great place to set up and enjoy Byron. Just over 2km from the centre of the action by bicycle. Managers are professional and welcoming. Facilities are older, but well kept. It doesn’t have the ‘kids’ things like other parks, but that’s not why we went to Byron! Recommend. 👍

Absolutely horrible place to stay. Toilet and shower blocks are so old and not looked after they are also not safe they are open to anyone coming in. Ladies showers have no working PowerPoint's. Dirty and not looked after. Camp kitchen is a joke only 1 PowerPoint working fridges are filthy and you have to pay to use the BBQ.
