We booked a double, but received a complementary upgrade to an double with ensuite , which was great for a quick shower after swimming at the beach directly opposite the hostel. Loved the location outside the city center, which was very quiet after 10pm and perfect for those laid back beach days, but just a quick complementary shuttle bus ride away for those daytime shopping trips or nighttime explorations of Byron's bars and restaurants. Clean, modern and accommodating, I can't recommend it enough!

Best hostel I've stayed at, staff and guests all really friendly. Activities are great, enjoyed free cheese & wine, pancakes, beach yoga and PT session, shuttles, bike and board hire. Being out of town is not a problem, shuttles run all day up to 10pm and it's a quick walk along the beach. Would definitely stay here again, loved it!

I stayed in Wake Up Byron Bay for 10 night and could have stayed for months! The best hostel I stayed during my travels so far! Such a unique place, just one minute away from the beach. Biggest and cleanest kitchen and room I've seen, great relaxing area, inside and out and the best service! You can hire a bike and surfboard for free and they have a shuttle going into town every 10-15 minutes, also free! Or you can walk into town which will take you about 20 minutes, a lovely beach walk. They also offer many great and fun activities, again mostly free, like morning yoga and wine and cheese night. The staff was super friendly and helpful, especially Piet who was driving the shuttle, he was really sociable with all the guest and happy to help where-ever! Would definitely recommend this place and love to come back one day myself!

Best part of this place is that it is right next to the beach and it is pretty peaceful, it has free yoga and boot camp majority of the mornings (staff for the workouts are awesome). It is a 30 min walk into town or a 10 min bike ride (you can rent for 3hrs) or free shuttle is 5min, I would recommend finding accommodation in town if you dont have a car as it becomes a big hassle/time waste getting into town. I wouldnt stay here if you dont have a car, you are just making life hard for yourself. Beautiful restaurant next door with fantastic food and relaxed vibe, it has a good reputation from locals. The reception staff at Wake Up I found to be very unfriendly, I think I got a smile and friendly response once while I was there. I found myself dreading having to talk to them to rent a bike or board, or ask any question. This is there job to help and be friendly and approachable and you shouldn't feel you are inconveniencing them or feeling uncomfortable. I wouldn't stay again solely because of the unfriendly staff your not paying to stay somewhere and feel uncomfortable, you will do better getting something in town walking distance to everything you will want to do and will likely have nicer staff.

Response from WakeUpByronBay, General Manager at Wake Up! Byron Bay
Responded 23 Jan 2020
Hi TMcget, Thanks so much for your review. I really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to provide your feedback from your recent stay. I'm pleased you joined our morning activities such as yoga and PT training, it is definitely the best way to Wake Up! in Byron Bay and enjoy the best of our stunning location. To be honest, I am fairly horrified to hear your comments about our reception staff. This is such a stark contrast to the feedback we receive about our service. In fact our staff has been the most highly rated area of our hostel since we opened our doors. This is very concerning that you haven't received the service we are most famous for and I will follow up with our team immediately to find out how this could have happened. I would really appreciate your help in rectifying this matter and ask you make contact with me at a convenient time for you. My email is tom.phillips@wakeupbyron.com.au. I look forward to hearing from you and thanks again for reaching out to us. Tom Phillips General Manager Wake Up! Byron Bay

We stayed with our family of 6, the room had sufficient beds which is always a challenge. Positives were that there was bedding & a bathroom in the cottage but cottage is a big exaggeration...it is a bunkroom, tiny meaning floor where the bed takes up all the space, bathroom & tiny room down stairs. It apparently includes a kitchenette- a bench, fridge & dishes. Apparently you are meant to wash your dishes in the bathroom or carry them right across the property to the shared kitchen? And 2 chairs, a small bed and no table. Hardly enough for a room for 6 people. Surfboards provided & being on thr Beach was a drawcord but the surfers in our family said the boards were awful. Overall it wasn't nearly as good as described and we were all pleased we were only there one night. For the same money in other locations we had a proper 3 bedroom apartment with full kitchen and proper beds.

The facilities are great- clean, bright and modern. Air conditioning! Big kitchen, lots of common area and right on the beach. Free surfboard/bike hire is awesome- although you are paying more for the beds here compared to elsewhere. I really liked the place itself. Reception staff were pretty good.

The one major issue I had was that it seemed like nearly half the hostel was filled with people who lived and worked there (in exchange for accommodation?). They congregated in large groups and were loud and commandeering of the space. It felt like they were bothered by my presence in ‘their’ hostel. This was ultimately what made me move on to a different hostel.

The only other problem I had was the fridges were running well over temperature and my things weren’t kept cold. I heard one guy point this out and the girl just said ‘I know, it’s so bad! I can’t do anything you should try telling management.’ I eventually got sick one night and then avoided keeping perishables. A lot of the pots and pans had lost their nonstick coatings too and this is actually a health risk when it flakes off into food - they should be thrown out immediately.

This hostel is located just in front of the most beautiful beach. Surfboards and bikes are available for rent and the hostel has many free activities throughout the week, including a wine and cheese night. Thankfully this place has a pool and a pool bar which provides great vibes and perfect for a solo traveller to make friends if you’re comfortable talking to new people.

The rooms are spacious and have lockers and the bathrooms are big enough for everyone. The kitchen is equipped with many appliances, fridges etc.

Laundry facilities are on site but only take 2 dollar coins. 6 dollars for a wash and 4 dollars for a dry. Reception will happily change notes for you.

Every hour a free shuttle will take you into the town and bring you back also just after the hour.

Can’t recommend this hostel enough.

I join a trip last minute with my friends. They had already booked their accommodations with wake up! In Byron when I joined so they called and asked if they could add me into their room or if would be trouble. They added me no problem and we’re very accommodating to us from before we even arrived to when we left.
This lovely hostel is located on the beach 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk from the town. They offer a free shuttle every hour and have the option to hire bikes, surf boards or paddle boards free of charge also. They have a lovely bar/restaurant attached which is very respectful of the patrons staying in the hostel. Everyone seemed very nice, including the guests in the hostel.

Would definitely come back and recommend.

Best hostel I’ve stayed in by far and can’t recommend enough- extended my stay twice! Location is great- opposite the beach and a short walk from the town but there’s a free shuttle that runs all day if you don’t want to walk. Activities put on by the hostel throughout the week which is great for meeting people if you are a solo traveller. Rooms are nice and clean and bathrooms too. All the staff were really friendly and helpful.

Highly recommend Wake Up in Byron. It’s a very clean hostel, super close to the beach and right next to Treehouse in Belongil. The staff was very friendly and helpful and every hour they had a free shuttle bus service going to Byron CBD plus free hire of bikes and SUP.
