Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

When we arrived there I was a bit surprised by the premises. It looked a bit run down with rubbish in places. Were we in the right place? We found the reception and the owner showed us to our cabin. I found the cabin to be quite clean, though we didn’t end up staying long enough to check out the facilities. The owner offered us a second night at a reduced price, but to be honest it’s not worth the money we paid. The owner was helpful in sending us a four page PDF document containing places to see, things to do and even where to get the car repaired which was great. The thing is, some people love the bushy area and the fact it’s dog friendly but $315 a night for basic accommodation in a run down place is a rip off to me. We found cockroaches in the kitchen and the curtains are not block out curtains. But due to the location, my guess is you’re supposed to wake up to the lovely sounds of nature. We got some rest but ended up leaving and making the seven hour drive home because we didn’t want to stay. Won’t be going back.

The manager/ owner Phil was extremely welcoming and went that extra mile to make us feel welcome. The rooms were clean and comfy and the location very quiet. Short walk to beach via rainforest and wetlands too. Breaky next door was excellent. Perfect for golfers or those that want a quiter location to Byron, but within a 5 minute Uber.

The place was run down and needs lots of tlc! Could be a fantastic place! The setting is beautiful! Only two lounge chairs at the pool, the pool area is dirty, no beach towels provided! This is fine for a budget friend hotel!

This place is heaven on earth. Great place to unwind and be apart of nature... We took our dog with us and the hotel was so dog friendly we could take her everywhere. We were just a 10 min beautiful walk from the beach. The walk to the beach is so much much as it’s through the rainforest, through the creek that was breathtaking and sneaky way to get to the beach. The place is clean, so beautiful and very relaxed. Phil is awesome :) will be back for sure!!!!

We have stayed here a few times and absolutely love it. It’s a retreat from busy Byron yet so close too. The cabins are spacious and private and very comfortable. If you don’t like insects or being truly close to nature then it’s probably not for you. We loved having a couch outside to sit and sip tea (lots of teas and coffee provided) and watch the forest and creatures. The kids loved the pool and Phillip the owner was always helpful and kind.

I stayed here at the suggestion on a family member who's extended group of friends stay regularly. I have to ask myself 'why?'!! Completely run down property, not a 'resort' at all. The rainforest part is nice, but there is no maintenance so there is disintegrating and fermenting plant matter everywhere. Upon arrival to the room, it was clear that the level of cleanliness was not high. The kitchen was full of extremely old cookware and utensils. I brought a my own meals to reheat but felt sick thinking of using the microwave or portable electric cook top and pan. I moved a couple of thing around in the kitchen to provide more space and each surface needed to be cleaned. On the second night of my 3 night stay I woke to several spiders and cockroaches in my room. One spider was at least 15 cms. This was the breaking point for me - I googled hotels with 24 hour reception and left at 2 am for somewhere else without returning to complete my stay. All of the 1 star reviews on here reflect my feelings. For a normally positive person this is a difficult review to submit, but I feel people should be aware.

We were looking for 1 extra night in byron Bay and found this hideaway. Great price for a very roomy cottage. Nice stroll through the nature reserve at the back to the beach. Wonderful place for birdspotting.

Out of the bustle of Byron, nice and quiet, a great place to spend a few nights to unwind in amongst the bushland! The beach is a small walk away with lots of birds and wildlife to see along the way. Great way to start the day!

This lodge is located close to the centre of Byron Bay in a beautifully preserved forest area. We felt that we had the best of both worlds staying here because it feels close to nature and also comfortable and enclosed. It is clear that the owners try to run the place in as eco-friendly and ethical a way as possible: we had recycling bins in our cottage as well as other carefully thought out provisions like organic soap, organic apple cider vinegar, olive oil, nice coffee and a wonderful herbal tea collection. There was also a heated pool, ping pong table and more cooking facilities in the communal beach house. The retreat is a short walk from a fresh water nature area (with lots of interesting birds) and about fifteen minutes' walk from a long stretch of beach. The walk winds through the trees and over the creek then opens out onto the beach. We loved our stay here and can't recommend it enough!

Whilst the location is great and our furbaby loved the dog-friendly beach nearby and our kids loved the pool, we found the cabins to be very unclean. Whilst they suit the forest location and are very basic and simple, we found cockroaches in the kitchen, spiders in the bathroom and general cleanliness of the cabins to be very poor. We paid almost $300 per night which we felt was extremely expensive for the quality of the accommodation. If you aren't fussy on cleanliness and need a great place for kids and pets then this place is great with fab location. The host was also extremely helpful and friendly.
