This b&b includes tropical fruit for breakfast, free access to the kitchen and living room all day, and a wonderful sunny deck surrounded by a Balinese garden. The location is very central to town and the bed in the king room is very comfortable.

Stayed in the King Room. We couldn't have been happier. Everything was perfect right down to the ridiculously comfy bed, and well pressured shower. The 'living area' in the King Room makes for a relaxing night in with a DVD, if you didn't want a restaurant (all in walking distance). Breakfast was fresh and healthy and there was a lovely array of tea. We've already begun recommending it to our friends - it's the perfect romantic getaway!

We booked this based on the TripAdvisor reviews. It's certainly not cheap. We arrived here for 3 nights after driving down from Brisbane to find a note for us on the front door saying the host was out and we should let ourselves in and take the first room on the RHS. Not a problem, but a harbinger of what was to come. We did so to find inside a wonderful house and a lovely room. The back area especially is a tranquil solace distant from the hectic of the main part of town. Next morning I was up early and internetting in the living room, and the host came in to make breakfast. Almost no interest shown in me/us at all. She briskly laid the breakfast out - and a very nice breakfast it was too - then returned to her shed in the back garden. No interaction with guests during breakfast, neither that morning nor the next two. No small talk when she was around. Upon returning after the first day, we found that our room had not been freshened up - no new towels, bed not made, no tidying. We asked the host whether we had made a mistake by taking the key to the room with us, but no, she does not do daily room freshening - "No B&B does it!" she proclaimed, in her New York manner (yes, she's from New York). Which as the seasoned travellers we are we know is absolute nonsense. So it is a wonderful house and an idea location with a great breakfast, but unfortunately the experience was marred by the attitude of the host - an attitude you can read in her aggressive responses to criticisms. I give the house/location/breakfast 5 starts, but the host 1 star, so an average of 3 stars. Next time we're in Byron Bay we'll stay somewhere else - which is the litmus test after all.

Response from Hilary B, Manager at Burns at Byron
Responded 21 May 2015
I have been unable to come up with a reason why you would wait 8 months to post your negative review. Bad day I guess, we do all have them. I am so sorry that you felt that way. I usually have the opposite response from people. Perhaps you looked busy that morning and I try not to intrude on people, but just move around them in that case. I cannot always be at the front door when guests arrive unfortunately, as there is just one of me, and travellers arrive all throughout the day. There is no mention of rooms servicing in my property description, so i am not sure why it would be assumed. The guesthouses in Byron Bay that of similar stance do not offer it either, so I guess I will have to investigate further, although that policy will most likely NOT change. Finally, is there something wrong with being from New York? I have always been proud of where I am from and of where I am now. Forgive me if you found this unpalatable. Most travellers don't seem to hold such a strong opinion. I guess you just can't please everyone. Enjoy your travels.

We booked last minute with Hilary at this B and B, as other plans had fallen through... We were so pleasantly surprised, when shown to our beautiful room, which was charming spacious and clean. The breakfast laid out each morning was perfect with fresh fruit, teas, coffee, a selection of breads, and the house was quiet , peaceful and Hilary completely unobtrusive, but there to chat or give information should you need it. We would definitely stay again!

A warm welcome from Hilary upon entering this lovely house and you know that you'll enjoy you stay. Lovely decor, comfy beds, well appointed bathrooms, huge relaxing deck, functional kitchen and cosy lounge room all within ten minute walk of downtown Byron and just another five minutes to the beach. My daughter and I made our first visit to Byron Bay, and shall definitely be retuning. Burns at Byron is the perfect place to stay and walk everywhere! Room 4 was large and loved the decor! Continental breakfast was so good, I bought 4 loaves of bread from the same bakery! Hillary is the perfect host, with her warm and friendly way, Would definitely stay there again.

We recently stated for one night and loved it. The location is ideal - close enough to be convenient but far enough away to be quiet. The place is idyllic, great decor and outdoor area. The place is spotlessly clean, comfortable and relaxed. Hillary is a fantastic host, she went out of her way to be helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was excellent and we loved the choice of local produce. I would recommend this place to anybody.

Stayed for one night - in room 3 with use of shared bathroom. The house itself is decorated in such a beauty way with so many lovely artefacts - same for the garden. Quiet location away from the main road but only a five min walk to it and the beach. Great breakfast in the morning - the muesli was delish! The only downside was that we never actually saw the host so felt like we were staying there all alone - there was one other room occupied we think. That was all fine - check in instructions were left but would have felt more welcoming to have seen the host at some point during our stay.

Response from Burnsatbyron, Manager at Burns at Byron
Responded 20 Jan 2015
I am sorry for this. I truly do understand. I try to interact as much as possible with each guest. Often if I cannot be there at their arrival I will make a point to catch them later on. Or I usually see them at breakfast. Its tricky as the B&B is a one man show! I had several personal things to take care of the days that these guests were staying as it was the first time to come up for air after a number of massively busy weeks.
