First of all, didnt expect a lot from this motel but it turned out alright. The price is at 200$/night which is a little much for a motel but I guess most of Byron is overpriced generally. The room is spacious enough, nice location. Walking distance to beach and town centre. The bathroom has only one side of glass which means my husband absolutely flooded the place and had to use a towel to dry off the floor. We didnt get a daily housekeeping so was left with only one towel to use for the next day.

The other annoying thing is checking into another hotel which I didnt know about. No one reminded or emailed me about it. Lucky I was reading thru the reviews in here so I knew. When we got there, their big sign outside also says "check in at waves hotel" which is around the corner. Parking is free as per most of motels.

Other than that, the room in itself is okay.

Whilst driving down to the Hibiscus Motel, I realised that we we’re not going to be at the motel in time for checking and that on the Expedia website it stated that you needed to give them 24 hours notice if you were going to arrive later than 5pm.

I emailed the motel and explained that we were going to be late and asked if we could make alternative arrangements to check in.

I received an email back in no time, asking if I could call the hotel as my credit card had been declined. I called the hotel and was advised that these things happen and provided my credit card details over the phone. I hadn’t realised that I had had a replacement card.

I was told where I could pick the key up from and everything was looking good. Just as we arrived at the motel, I check my email again to find that my card had yet again been declined and I was fully aware that reception had closed.

I tried the combination for the safe and thankfully the keys to our room were in there, with a note asking if I could attend reception the next morning.

The room, was a good size and whilst it might not have been the most luxurious in Australia, it was everything we needed for a couple of nights. The bed was really comfortable which provided a good nights sleep.

The next morning I went to reception and was instantly put at easy by the staff. (This was the first time my card has been declined) We went through the check in procedure, attempted to pay for the room, where I received a text from the bank asking me to authorise the payment, this then went through.

The staff could not have been any nicer or more understanding.

This is one of the cleanest places I have ever stayed! Check in was a breeze with very friendly staff of which nothing was too much trouble. Great location, comfortable beds, clean and tidy and a friendly staff. what more could you want?

I booked the Motel via Booking.com for a 2 bedroom Apartment.
If you go direct to the Hibiscus Motel website, I can guarantee the rooms advertised are not the rooms you will be staying in. They are appear far more appealing online than the actual room you will stay in.
They smelt old , musty and the Bed Linen did not appear fresh or inviting.
Do not stay here , it's a waste of money . I left I. 5 minutes and booked another Motel which was excellent. Negotiations with management continue on a refund , needless to say , less than helpful.

The outside light was on right outside our room ALL NIGHT. The curtains aren’t block out at all and the bed is 1 metre from the window so it felt like daylight all night long and made sleeping next to impossible. I told Waves reception on check-out and she didn’t have a clue but said she’d ask maintenance (no apology).

48 hours after I checked out and handed the keys to reception I received a text stating my credit card had been charged $51 for losing a key. They did eventually refund this after I explained I’d handed both back at check out but receiving this msg and charge was a huge insult simply because they couldn’t find a key 2 days later! They didn’t even apologise for the accusation. A simple check of security cameras at the time of check out would have shown we’d handed both keys back.

The rooms are nice and clean and location is fantastic but at $200 per night it’s just not worth it.

I stayed with friends at Hibiscus Motel. We arrived late this day and we were quite tired but the warm welcome and friendly faces of the owners made our day.
The rooms were neatly clean and quite spacious. A well equipped kitchen, TV set and a comfy sofa (and of course a comfy bed) made our stay most likeable.

The owners were so friendly and nice and they even agreed to leave our car there although we had checked out already. THey know Byron Bay very well and give you certainly the best tips/hints for where to go and find some yummy food or nice places to see or or or ....

We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this motel!

We stayed 2 nights in September and would recommend Hibiscus. It is an old fashion motel and check in is next door at Waves. The room is not serviced and this was OK for a 2 night stay. There is parking outside your door and this is a godsend in Byron to avoid limited parking and metres. The location is perfect about 2 minutes from the beach and also close to the main shops and lots of bars and restaurants. We were there on the weekend and it was a bit noisy with loud music and revellers - but it is Byron Bay.
The room was a good size and clean with good wi fi, a good fridge and a good bathroom. The bed was comfortable and we have no trouble recommending Hibiscus Motel. We believe we got good value as accommodation in Byron Bay is quite expensive.

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst in Byron for a wedding. Check in is at the Waves resort just next door. Check in staff were friendly and welcoming.
Our room was very clean & looked newly renovated. It had everything we needed for our stay. You can park your car right outside your door so you are avoiding parking fees by parking your car on the street.
The motel is also centrally located, walking distance from beach, restaurants, bars.
The only downside to this motel is that it is noisy. We got woken up at 1.20am to young people partying, and there is no chance of sleeping in in the morning as garbage trucks come by early. Also a lot of noise from little kids running around in the car park in the early morning. I guess you cant really keep children quiet as they are just that, children.
The Hibiscus Motel is a good motel I just would not recommend it to those that value their sleep.

I called and cancelled at this Hotel over a month in advance. I also cancelled on the first night after getting a phone call from the new manager wondering where I was. After thinking everything was sorted out and fine, two weeks later I get a bill charged to my credit card for $700.00.
After being hung up on and 3 phone calls to the managing staff they informed me that they get paid $2.50 an hour and that they can't help me with getting the stolen money back from my credit card...,

I would never recommend staying here and please don't give them your credit card details...

Response from Marg H, Manager at Hibiscus Motel
Responded 3 June 2015
Dear Sir, As you booked your accommodation through the Expedia website your correspondence and cancellation needed to be handled through Expedia. They have absolutely no record of you contacting them and we have no record of you contacting us to discuss your booking at all prior to the day of arrival. As Expedia explain this is classed as a NO SHOW and the cancellation policy stands. We make a courtesy phone call for late arrivals to see if everything is OK and that is when you advised that you thought you had cancelled the booking. On your 3rd out of 5 disturbing phone calls you explained that you had booked alternative accommodation in Byron Bay for the same period. On several occasions we explained that you are required to ring Expedia as you had committed to the terms and conditions of the Expedia website. Unfortunately our company does not accept intimidation and bullying over the phone and we feel that no one should put up with this treatment therefore we do apologies for hanging the phone up on you in a respectful manner. We are sorry you did not take the opportunity to stay at our motel as you may have found staying with us would have been an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of the motel as reflected in all our other amazing reviews on Trip Advisor.

I stayed 3 nights, the managers were what made the experience fantastic. Old school friendly and willing to go out of their way to make your stay happy and relaxed. No breakfast available but there is a small kitchen and shops close by for supplies .
