Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Was supposed to stay here for 2 nights but decided to leave after one night. I have paid in full for 2 nights but I just could not bring myself to stay another night. When we walked into the room the stench of old and mouldy carpet greets you. It is a very old motel and has not been maintained well. There are rust on the bathroom floor, bath tub has rust spots and the carpets are so old. To me showering in the bathroom makes me feel that I needed another shower when I get home. Room is a good size but the rooms need a face lift so badly. The cupboards and furniture in the room gives you an idea when was the last time they renovated the hotel. Happy to give this place a miss and we were happy to be checking out the next day.

Great atmosphere, good food. Upper class pub style but food better than that. Have been a couple of times and never disappointed. Shared slow roasted lamb shoulder with sides of steamed greens and duck fat potatoes. Good coffee. Great for group lunch.

The spacious room was excellent with crisp bedding and firm matras. All amenities you could want are present. Bathroom is tight, the storage area between room and bathroom is very clever for travellers. Staff is very friendly, the provided wifi however is non existent in the rooms (#17) which is inconvenient for foreigners (for whom data is expensive). Good, quiet stay and the nextdoor restaurant convenient and good, even though we hate the countermeal concept (as present everywhere in Australia)

Do yourself a Favour and don’t stay here! Head straight to Milton park country house hotel where you will be treated much better and receive a much better experience. Staff were rude and looking for any excuse to over charge. Extremely disappointing service and will never stay here ever again when returning to Bowral. Shocking service and treatment of guests. I was told I could check out late to then be charged ridiculous fees I’ve never been charged by any hotel ever in any country! Pathetic! Won’t be staying here again!

So .... I recently stayed 4 times in the area ....as a business one nighter in Bowral motels ,... ... then in central Moss Vale .... where I was working.... then moved to Briars Lodge .... just out of Moss Vale..... this " rurally located " Motel + Hotel + Bar + Restaurant will meet ....and exceed all your needs financially and personally ..... not only does the accommodation side beat the competition.....the " separate bar and restaurant " is a serious long term commitment to keeping locals smiling...... Unless you need a big screen TV . for a sport final ..... can't beat Briars.

We stayed for 2 nights 26th and 27th June at the Briars Country Lodge. We were greeted by a very efficient and friendly receptionist. The room was very clean, beds were good and the sofa was comfortable. We would go back again.

Paid for a 3 bedroom apartment, rate includes 2 guests only ??? and each additional guest adds $70/person for "linen". Apartment capacity is: 3 rooms (1 x King bed / 1 x queen bed / 2 x single beds) for a capacity of 6 guests. Rate increases 4 x $70 = $280. I feel cheated. The Apartment is sold as a "3 Bedroom Apartment" where in fact what is being sold is a 1 Bedroom Apartment at a significant rate. Buyer beware. The Receptionist clarified that I had been "caught", and that is how it felt, falling to a misleading trap. Reception also advised that the above would have been explained "if I had of booked directly" but that when booking via an Online Travel Agent, bookings.com in this case, "it is difficult to convey. Too right it is "difficult", so difficult that it was not conveyed. Happy weekend negated by shrewd sales and wording. No thanks Briars Country Lodge, we would not consider travelling there again nor would we recommend, quite the converse, we will ensure our experience is conveyed.

Stayed overnight midweek thought rate was reasonable enjoyed a great dinner at Briars as well Stayed in a King room down the back was very quiet even though motel seemed quite full Comfy bed great shower in the morning all that we needed Room was clean and cosy. Update to toiletries would be nice - the green cakes of soap were a bit old school

Nice quiet surrounds, a view of the lake would be great while sitting in the room, unfortunately the room didn't allow. Makes sure you ask for the right rooms. Sitting around the lake was peaceful with the ducks minding their own business and the fountain quite calming. Cobweb need cleaning, apart from that the rooms are good style, noise from next door makes it not private, especially when they are talking at a normal volume. Staff were nice and polite.

Turned up early to stay for a nearby wedding, knew I was early, but just figured I could sit in the foyer and do some work etc until a room was ready at an appropriate time. Angry lady on front desk snapped "you checking out?" ..No, I'm checking in.. "Well you can't". End of discussion. I came closer to 1pm (as arranged via the booking), and asked if I could complete any paperwork.. once again.. I was snapped at "it's not check in time".. I'm not making this up.. no Hello, welcome, how are you, where are you from, what are you here for, it's lunch time there's an excellent pub restaurant next door you could kill time and get a great meal etc.. One of the room team asked what room, and politely said it was ready. All Mrs Angry then said was.. "we're full tonight, make sure you park in the right spot or it will create a problem". Checked out the next morning, zero Good morning, how was your stay and thanks for staying with us. Only question, anything from mini bar? If the hospitality was warm, friendly, ummm hospitable... you'd overlook a tired old highway road stop hotel, with tired old bathrooms, amenities etc. On a positive, good location, excellent pub/ restaurant attached but obviously run by someone else as the quality and hospitality were poles apart which you can experience without basically being abused my Mrs Angry for the privileges' of spending money on the accom. We all have bad days, but 2 other couples also going to the wedding had the same experience. Time for a renovation of the hotel and the front office staff!
