Our expensive salad was a mountain of under ripe tomato, a piddling amount of roughly chopped mozzarella, (which used to be soft and pillow light bocconcini) and a miniscule amount of basil. Totally underwhelming. Can't imagine any chef worth his salt letting that go out. Even when it was returned hardly touched nobody bothered to ask why. Our plates remained on the table for over half an hour, preventing us from having the opportunity to compain and was eventually cleaned up by, wait for it, the covid monitor only minutes before closing. I live here and won't be going back in a hurry for an expensive, overrated pub meal.
Adequate carparking, quiet through the night. A few metres from the hotel and bistro which we thoroughly enjoyed. Morning coffee avaiable 50m from the hotel entrance, along with takeaway breakfast.
A star off for the bery difficult and sticking doorlock, which we mentioned on leaving. Overall, a pleasant stay.
It’s is centrally located and a short 5 min walk from the railway station.
Got a takeaway pizza from the bar/restaurant next door which was good value and tasty.
I’ve rated this average due to the unfriendly service at reception and the noise.
Reception was lukewarm. Not a biggie however I’ve had much friendlier service at other motels.
The noise at night from other people passing the room was disruptive during the night. Not sure if this is due to being attached to a bar and car park.
Overall this is fine for a night. Perhaps bring earplugs just in case.
Would we return ? No Unfortunately.
Ultimately I was refused service. I am a business owner and I know for a fact that there is absolutely no government requirement that drivers licenses be produced in these circumstances. Alternative means of checking in are legally required in cases where a person does not have a smartphone (or it’s not working), but a business is not entitled to refuse service simply because a person doesn’t have a drivers license on them.
She then aggressively pointed out “you’re also not wearing a mask”. I informed her that I have a mask exemption for medical reasons - proof of which I have stored on my phone, and which I was more than happy to show her. Clear discriminatory behaviour to refuse service in this instance. What an appalling experience. I will never go here again.
Located on the Main Street of town you couldn’t get any closer to the shops and cafes.
We dined at the hotel for dinner and the atmosphere was nice with all the open fires.
We would definitely stay again.
