I needed a place to stay unexpectedly whilst visiting my father in hospital. The unit I stayed in had a kitchenette. The bed and pillows were comfy with an electric blanket. The kitchen had all I needed with an easy walk to shops and restaurants/cafes. The room was very clean, tidy and well presented. I felt safe as a solo female traveller. The shower was so hot with wonderful pressure and I found the staff friendly and helpful. The whole experience was an unexpected blessing.

We didn't hold very high hopes for the only motel in Bombala. But entering the room we were pleasantly surprised, particually with the bathroom...it was NEW (ish). Good and clean, with modern shower, basin and toilet, and good water pressure. The bed was comfortable, the TV was good, the jug, the cuttlery, the fridge, were all great. But those blankets... how old were they? We found one that was acceptable, and had a good nights sleep. The motel was not full, but the "no vacancy" sign was out.

We visit Bombala every 2nd year and as this is the only motel in town, we stay here.
Last time I reviewed it we were put up in a room that hadnt been renovated. This time we had a room that had been done-up. The room was large and basically equiped. Everything in it worked as expected. Linen was clean and the bed well made. The clean bathroom has a large shower and a mixture of new and old throughout the room.
The walls suffer from a 50's design and are too thin for todays standards as we could hear the chap next door snoring. There are several eating places, cafes, hotels, RSL Club and restaurants withing walking distance (less than 500 meters) We stayed 2 nights. Inexpensive rate.

One of the few hotels in town. Comfortable for a three star with heating facilities. No cloths washing facilities available but lady running the place was kind enough to wash my cloths for me. IN town so close to all amenities. Very friendly town, will be back. Shower is clean but shower head is a bit low and I am not tall!

We booked this room to enable my husband and I to get some sleep and be refreshed for a long drive back to QLD.
We arrived at 10.35pm, the key was in the door as arranged with the owner. We were very quite, whispering few words, as we didn't want to disturb any other patrons. Within a few minutes of getting into bed, we heard someone bang on the 1950's fibro wall. His bed head obviously backed onto ours.
We were very tired and fell asleep quickly, only to be woken at 2.20am with aggressive fist banging on the wall and groaning. Then just as we were about to fall asleep again, (15/20 mins) the fingers began tapping out a tune. Not a good tune either. This cycle continued till we decided we couldn't take it anymore. We left a note to management explaining the situation and too contact us. We then left the motel at 5.50am.

Ellen the owner called me. Her tone from the outset was patronizing and belittling of our experience, making us feel like it was our fault.
Ellen continued to verbally scolded me like a child ( I am 45yr old woman, who is an emergency dept nurse) telling me I should have knocked on the man's door to complain. Not a safe idea in my mind!

Then she said I should have woken her. I explained that we didn't want to wake her, as we know they are elderly and guessing they work long hours. Her reply was "we'll I put milk in the fridge for you and the CCTV shows you leaving at 5.50am so you had plenty of time in your room and the charge will be $110". No good will gesture from her! We didn't even use the milk as we didn't want to use the kettle for risk of disturbing anyone.

So if you want fibro walls which are so thin you can hear the man pee next door or tapping tunes on your wall ( he is a regular customer Ellen tells me); if you like unhelpful management, extreme road noise from the trucks and a terrible attempt to sleep this is the place for you.

Response from bombalamaneroomotel, Owner at Maneroo Motel
Responded 19 Sept 2013
Dear Earthaura, I'm sorry you had a disappointing experience at the Maneroo Motel. I encourage customers who are not happy with their rooms to contact me immediately so I can do something to assist them. While I appreciate your concern that I am 'elderly', I pride myself on providing excellent customer service and I always ensure that a member of the management team is available to deal with customer concerns, day or night. Unfortunately if we are not made aware of a problem at the time, it is impossible to resolve the situation. At the Maneroo Motel, we rarely get complaints about noise. The customer whose room was adjacent to yours is a regular and we have never experienced this problem before, so I was initially surprised by your complaint. After waiting until well after checkout time of 10am, I knocked on your room door only to realise the room had been vacated, the key left in the room along with a note stating your interrupted sleep & a phone number to ring to discuss payment. I then proceeded to check our security camera & noted that you left around 5.45am. The note seemed to suggest that you had departed much earlier than you did. When I called to enquire how you would be paying for the room, I happily gave you a small discount. As you had used the room for the full night I was unable to give you any further discount. Customer service is a priority for me & I am disappointed that on this occasion we did not meet your expectations. Kind Regards Management

During a recent road trip from Melbourne to Canberra the weather turned bad. One of the only available places to stay in Bombala was the Maneroo Motel. It took about 30 minutes before the owner could tell me if she had a room available. Finally we were sent to a very small and cold room at the back of the motel. The walls were so thin we could hear the people next door, talking and arguing into the early hours. We were told that breakfast was on offer in the dining room but was additional. Considering we were stung $130.00 for a double room with an old box television and no Wi-Fi, I certainly thought the meagre offerings of breakfast would have been included in the room charge. The owner, Ellen - a retired hospital matron who informed me had worked for the best specialists in the world.....really probably should have employed a waitress. Her hand was shaking so violently that she spilled our tea everywhere and in my cereal. I jumped up to assist and was told, quite rudely, that she was fine and she had managed for years....(Again, probably should have employed a waitress). During the whole of my breakfast the owner advised me of the cost of heating, gas and complained endlessly about a $10,000 tax bill. I do appreciate friendly staff, however using you guests for a legal advice or counselling is rather Faulty Towers. Whilst trapped in discussion, a lady with the oldest, largest and hairiest dog I have ever seen arrived. The reception is next to the dining room and the lady, complete with huge dog, entered and walked into the kitchen. The owner called out a greeting to her and informed me that this was the lady going to Las Vegas once the dog died. Oh dear....
Now don't get me wrong....I like animals, just not in the kitchen where my breakfast is cooked. I know it is a rural country town, however that is no reason to breach the health regulations.
Give the fact the bed was uncomfortable with old snagged bed covers, the walls were thin, old analog TV and no Wi-Fi, the breakfast was meagre and served by someone who really should not be carrying hot beverages due to her condition....The dog in the kitchen was a real shocker. Then to top it all off, a person, whom I presume to be room cleaning staff came rushing in screaming.....Not sure what the problem was but I used this moment to quickly pry myself away from Ellen and head for my car. I must say given my experience and financial penalty - unless I am dying, I will drive onto Cooma or stop at Lakes Entrance in future.

Maneroo is the ONLY motel in town. The owners seem to have bought most accommodation available in town including an old motel just south and a restaurant and rooms across the road. They are frequented regularly by road crews and are therefore booked out quite often. The motel has a restaurant across the road and something similar at the motel.
The motel has a 50's feel about it. It reminds me of the old style motels that you see in old mags. Rooms have been renovated to a comfortable level and bedding is good. Warm doonas and blankets were way to hot for summer but I am sure would be great in winter. Bathrooms are spacious and light. Amenities are typical of 3 or 3.5 star motels. Just your usual iron, tea/coffee, TV and bathroom things. Rooms are spotless and we were very comfortable. Great location and no traffic noise. Box AC's are typically a little noisy.
Staff were helpful but a little quirky. I think she was a temp manager.
Good motel.

The facilities are very basic and probably not worth what they charge. Despite my booking being for the week, the room was not serviced at all during my stay. I had no television for my first night, which probably would have been ok if the staff had been honest about this issue in the first instance. Luckily, the issue was fixed the following day.

The heating was good, except it was absurdly loud and sleeping with it on was impossible. The bathroom was modern, however exceptionally cold in the evening/ morning as the window was permanently open and unable to be closed.

Probably an ok place to stay overnight, if you have low expectations and don’t mind paying paying twice as much as the room is worth.

This is a basic and dated motel. Room has plenty if space and clean. Plenty if instructional signs on the walls.
Heating is old fashioned, noisy and not particularly effective.
Bathroom has had makeover and is fine.
Location is on quiet end of main street, and no traffic noise despite also being highway.
