Booked a room for $336 to attend a wedding was told check in from 2pm advised we were driving 2 hours to get there and needed to get to the wedding by 3:00 pm , was told due to COVID that contactless check in was required and key would be under the mat . Arrived 20 mins early and looked for a key as the cleaner advised us the room had been serviced and was clean there was no key so went to reception . Was told by the receptionist we couldn’t have a key until 2:00 pm , I told her the room was cleaned and ready and why can’t I have the key she said COVID , I though she was joking and eventually asked what planet she was on and I could not believe what I was hearing, was told point black you are not having the room until I say you can have the room . Some kind of power trip . I could have paid $50 and checked in from 10:30 am but for some stupid reason COVID becomes an excuse if you arrive 20 mins early . I asked to speak to the owner and was told to leave and he wasn’t around, I was then given a refund and rudely told to go somewhere else . I spoke to other guests who were also made to wait outside even though their rooms were ready an no one was impressed with the pig headed attitude of the woman we had to deal with . I have never dealt with a business who were so rude and willing to lose business over a simple request of a key for a room 20 mins early . Was an absolute joke . I have stayed in hundreds of hotels all over the world and have never met anyone of this character or been treated in such an unprofessional manner . If I could give a minus rating I would . We were left with a wedding to get ready for in 1 hour , 2 hours from home and nowhere to get ready . Fortunately we found a studio owned by some locals who took us in and made us welcome in their home .

Response from Peter Fussell, General Manager at Berrima Bakehouse Motel

The room category and price that customers choose is their decision – it does not afford any privileges that circumvent our Covid 19 Policies regardless of how rude and demanding you are to our staff. Yes, the room may have been cleaned, but until such time as our Head Cleaner has checked the room, and cleaners have vacated the area, NO rooms can be occupied.

A relaxing stay in this quiet motel which is close to many interesting places to explore. Our room had everything that we needed, plus we were able to top up the milk, tea coffee etc when ever required. The well maintained gardens lead down to the local river and across the road The Surveyor General hotel is a great place to eat or just enjoy a relaxing drink.

Perfect solid, thus quiet motel. Very clean, spacious, quality linen, and so well equipped. There is an amenities room with a microwave. Petfect for people who like to have a main meal during the day. Then a coffee machine for the morning. Many thanks to the owners.

The motel is in a very central location. The twin room we booked was excellent, very comfortable, clean and well set out. The gardens are beautiful and the staff are very helpful and cheerful. Although the location is on the main road we couldn't hear any traffic noise, very quiet. Just a walk across the road to The Surveyor General Inn Hotel for an excellent meal, we found that other restaurants in Berrima were closed on Monday and Tuesday nights. Thank you for a lovel stay, hope to be able to return in the future.
