#1 of 5 Speciality lodging in Bangalow
Bangalow Guesthouse is an elegant, early 1900s heritage property superbly located in the heart of the fashionable hinterland town of Bangalow. Charming and private, the Guesthouse is just a short walk from Bangalow Town’s thriving café culture, boutiques and hinterland vistas, just a 15-minute drive from the beautiful beaches of Byron Bay, 25 minutes from Ballina airport and 45 minutes from the Gold Coast airport. Combining the charm of a bygone era with sumptuous, modern comforts lends the homestead a luxe Hamptons vibe. Set on manicured one-acre grounds, bordered by Byron Bay Creek, deep green hedgerows and wrap-around balconies, the main house is flanked by three private cottages. The property sleeps 14 and all 7 rooms are unique, boasting fine linens, fluffy robes and ensuite bathrooms with all the mod cons - smart TV with Netflix, DVD player, iPod dock, WiFi, ceiling fan and reverse cycle heating and cooling system.

It was a lovely Guest house and we enjoyed the garden. However we arrived on Good Friday only to find nobody in attendance at the house. We were not sent a key cod by SMS or Email so could not get into our room. We rang all numbers leaving voice messages to no avail. After 4 hours of waiting for a return call I managed to break into our room through an open window. We were not contacted by anyone until Saturday. Very poor show considering we had flown up from Melbourne and had nowhere else to stay. We payed over $300 a night for the room and I would expect a staff member to greet guests on arrival and show them to their rooms. Would not stay here again as it had a very unfriendly feel.

Positives + impeccably clean accommodation + allocated parking + keyless entry + comfortable bed and sheets Negatives - very noisy bats. Not so much a bother during the day but very active at night, made it very difficult to get a good nights sleep. (Understandably this is out of the guest house control, but this is something that did negatively impact our experience.) - no curtain or ability to cover the window on the door, which let so much light in (also making it difficult for a good nights sleep)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this guesthouse. It is interesting reading the reviews and comments about the place. Whether people enjoyed it or not seems to depend on how many guests are there at once and which suite you stay in. We stayed in the Dr Bracken Suite #6 in the main house and loved every minute of it. We were probably lucky with no noise experienced at all from anyone else. It was a little strange that there were no tea and coffee facilities in the room at all but this was compensated for by the very lovely and well equipped kitchen in the main house along with a beautifully decorated living room and verandah if you want a change of scene. Being lovers of renovating and decorating, hats off to those who did the renovation and upgrading of this beautiful old building. It has been done very stylishly without sparing any expense I would guess, using the old fittings where suitable but ensuring every square inch of the property is painted meticulously and decorated with elegance. Beds and bedding were lovely and robes were provided. The shower was hot and water plentiful. I agree with the person who commented that it was strange that there was no reception to greet guests on arrival and noone at the end of the phone if they were needed. A message service takes calls and passes them on but when we called noone called back. We were sent a key code a couple of days before our stay and it was up to us to let ourselves in and read the information in the book provided on how the property operates. It just seems a bit of a cop out to say it's a guest house so no reception. If they went to the expense of renovating the property so beautifully, we would have thought they owe it to the building to have some sort of reception, especially as the sign on the door says reception 10am to 4pm (I seem to remember) yet where are they?? There was just one person who we saw during our stay, the most beautiful Japanese lady (whose name we sadly didn't get) who seemed to do all the jobs in the property, from room cleaning to making sure the kitchen was always spotless to keeping everything topped up. She is a treasure and was always buzzing around keeping everything perfect, and such a lovely lady. I hope the owners appreciate her. The property is a short walk to the shops and cafes and we would definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in Bangalow as long as they are aware of the above.

We have been bowled over by Bangalow Guesthouse. We are staying in Mrs Letaigne’s Cottage and we are loving it. The bed is super soft and comfortable with lovely linen. It has ac and a ceiling fan for comfort. There is plenty of room to spread out, with plenty of storage space. I love the security door which is accessible by code, therefore no keys required. The comfy lounge on the verandah induced me into a Nanna nap while listening to the birds, flying foxes and the odd sheep in the background.....very relaxing! On day two we have already seen water hens, lots of huge monitor lizards, flying foxes, geckos, a brush turkey and unusual pidgeons all on the property. We have enjoyed the verandah up in the main house for drinks and restaurants and cafes are literally a 5 min walk away on the flat. The grounds are beautifully maintained and everything is spotless. The showers are like new with huge shower heads. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending the cottages to anyone. The only suggestion I have is to supply tissues and a can of fly spray as we had to buy some for the mozzies on the balcony. Other than those two small things we can’t fault our stay and would come back again without hesitation.

So the rooms in the main house, very clean and comfy bed but very small and no where to put your clothes. Haven't seen a bathroom this small since our travels in Japan. Not even a kettle in the room. The strangest thing however is the place is like a share house - shared kitchen and common area or even like a BnB but with no host. If the place was full good luck getting time in the kitchen to cook. Even had to go to the shared kitchen in the morning to make a cuppa.. PJs at dawn anyone. Hence my comment the place is like a posh share house. As stated by other reviews, there are no staff around.. What happens if other guests get out of hand or are super noisy (old house has zero sound installation).. Do you call the police? The location is fine, few mins walk to town. Gardens and river are nice. Maybe stay in one of the private cabins and skip the cheaper shared house rooms.
