The Ballina Colonial Motel provides a quiet location, away from the main thoroughfare, just south of Ballina Shopping Centres and within easy reach of the beaches, river, shops, clubs and restaurants. We are just a 25 minute scenic drive from Byron Bay via Lennox Head. Here at the Colonial, we are always looking to enhance the quality of the accommodation we provide and over a three year period we are undertaking some major refurbishments. By the end of 2013, all the Bedrooms were upgraded and in 2014/15, we will be working on new Bathrooms, as well as completing improvements to the Outdoor Pool Area.

Motel was very clean, basic, older, yet updated thoughtfully. Comfy Queen Bed (Rm 1) with good pillows too. Clean pool all in a quiet and private location away from the hustle of the main drag, but only a few blocks (very short drive)away from it. Only a short stroll to Cherry Street Sports Club with a temporary membership deal with Motel made for a great evening meal option. Only negatives were potential trip hazards on room entry and bathroom thresholds and very low toilet height with no handrail for assistance for older or mobility impaired guests.

Had very pleasant 3 days with kids in one of the rooms in this family owned hotel. Very friendly staff. The only reason why it's 4 and not 5, is that if you stay there for more than couple of days there are no shampoo or shower gel included, so you would need to bring your own. Outside of that highly recomendable.

I did not get a chance to let the owner know that the air conditioner, which is a bit dated, just did not work. As I am on medication which gives me hot flushes, it was impossible to sleep, even with the fan. So please check the air con in room No. 7 . The motel was clean and in a good area, a bit pricey considering the age of the Motel. I would stay again, but would check the air con first.

Oh dear what a shame that you saw fit to use social media to advise us of a routine maintenance problem, rather than calling us or leaving a note. Will Room 7 be wrongly condemned forever? We were not even aware of the issue, as nobody else had complained until another customer a week later told us about this online comment. The problem has now been fixed and had you come into Reception, even though it was Christmas Day, we could have provided you with a portable air con, which we keep for just such occasions.

Says here the place is advertised with BBQ facilities, laundry service, etc. It doesn't. Not a single service and you'll have to beg the owners for cutlery or crockery.
When you complain you didn't get as advertised they will kick you out without a refund. Booking.com won't help either.
We tried to ask to pay for the 1 night we stayed and 1 more night for the inconvenience to them for the room too, we paid in cash. This was not acceptable for them. Ended up getting 480 back from the 1275 I spent and I had to spend hours on the phone to booking.com just for that.
Just avoid. The weren't overly welcoming before the issues and the place was dirty (I have the photos to prove it).

Booked off Hotels.com and on arrival a asked management about the beach location as in the pics on Hotels it shows people walking onto the beach. This made me think that it backed onto the beach and it didn’t. After leaving negative feedback with a hotels.com about this and the noisy room the manager thought it would be best to confront me and get me to explain myself and the reasons for the feedback. He was very upset and angry in his approach and made me feel very uncomfortable. Because he didn’t like my feedback he told me he would be refunding my remaining nights and I could go. Awesome customer service. Maybe he should look at taking a customer service course and update his training. Definitely couldn’t recommend this one. Please check all reviews, not just in here but Hotels.com too.

I think they have recently changed hands because I found the staff to be great (unlike some older reviews). The rooms have been freshly renovated and are absolutely beautiful. Close enough to the town centre. I thought it was great for the price.

Great place to stay, extremely clean, our room felt new. Very well maintained grounds, nice location. Specious room and bathroom, good layout. Plus nice owners and they offer hot breakfast if your interested. Ohh and their dog was an absolute cutie.

When calling to book, were quoted the $115 for two people. When arrived, was told the extra $15 to use the single bed too. Thi gs like this needs to be stated when people book.

Thank you for your comments, but we are unsure of the issue here. You booked and paid for a Queen Bedded Room, but as the room allocated also had a Single Bed in it, you were advised by Reception that if you used it, which you did, there would be an additional $15 charge. As regards the shower, a quick finger tightening of the shower head was all that was required. p.s. there is a very good reason why the Big Prawn is in the Bunnings car park. They own it and took the trouble to refurbish and add the tail to the crustacean. Best advertising $ they ever spent!

However sometimes you just have to make the effort, if only to reflect the effort so clearly made by the hosts. One such example is the Ballina Colonial Motel on the Bangalow Road to Ballena.
We give it a straight 10!
Scrupulously clean, modern, spacious, well-appointed, the best shower that we've had in Australia, friendly service from the genial owners, all at a price which represents top value.
Not a high-and luxury hotel, but the perfect motel.
A strong recommend!
