Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We really enjoyed our visit to Alstonville Country Cottages - the teenagers enjoyed roaming the property and petting the animals, and I loved the tranquility and the facilities, like a weber BBQ on the balcony, meant we had much needed privacy and independence. Thank you! I highly recommend this property.

Booked a unit for 4 people stayed for two nights . Perfect in every respect. Very comfortable and private. Ordered the breakfast. Was certainly ample for us all and we came no where close to finishing it all.

We used 3 cottages as our accommodation for a family birthday at Wollongbar.. The facilities were very comfortable and the surroundings very relaxing. The grandchildren enjoyed interacting with the animals and making use of the box of sports gear.. Highly recommended for family gatherings !

Cottage 5 accommodated we three retirees with every comfort we could wish for. The view from the verandah over the valley to the distant sea was delightful and a splendid venue for drinks and nibbles at sundown. This cabin also had excellent access for anyone requiring wheelchair assistance. The gardens and grounds are a credit to the owners. The pool was clear and refreshing in a lovely setting. We found the venue to be an excellent base for local touring and there is much to see in the district, with good restaurants and a spacious historic hotel. We will return again and our thanks go to our hosts for their care and consideration during our two night stay.

Cottage 5 is fairly basic but clean and well equipped with comfortable beds and crisp linen. The food preparation area is small but adequate and there's a full size cooker and outside BBQ. The chooks are great at disposing of kitchen waste and provide terrific eggs. Looking our over paddocks to the distant ocean is a treat. We didn't use the pool, but it looks inviting and the grounds are lush and well kept. There's a pleasant walk to the creek and the dogs are very well behaved. A very pleasant place to stay.

We left our friends in Hervey Bay and arrived in Alstonville 6 hours later. The cottage setting is glorious with 5 huge frangipanies outside our windows. The walls through the rainforest trail are so peaceful and the array of animals on the property are friendly and well follow you anywhere. Try the early morning coffee delivered to your door. Staff are welcoming and helpful. Just a wonderful spot to relax.

Spent three days of Easter holidays...just in the cottage with family, some friends visited us too. Liked the ambience, scenery, aloofness of the location. You will be really left of your own... Walking around and visiting the henhouse and goats are worth mentioning. Owen and Aria looked after the facility well.

We recently stayed at the cottages in Cottage 2 with out two children for 3 nights. This accommodation was perfect for our family. The boys loved the pool, i loved the views, and it was close enough to Ballina to visit friends. We will be back for sure. Next time for pizza, fire pit and a snuggle with my favourite thing of all "Taffy the Staffy"

Stayed at Alstonville Country Cottages for 5 nights in Cottage 1. This cottage fronts the rainforest and is very secluded. We stayed with our 2 dogs and the cabin is very well set up for dogs, with the verandah fully enclosed to avoid escape and all floors in the cottage being hard surfaces - floating wood and tiles. The cottage was very comfortable and quiet and if you what a tech-free experience this is the place for you. No internet or phone reception in the cottage and on 2 nights we also had no TV due to signal loss (possibly to do with inclement weather). They advertise free Wi-Fi in public areas and in cottages but it was virtually non-existent in our cottage. There is a nice walk through the rainforest and an inviting looking swimming pool but it was too cold while we were there to make use of it. The cottage is fully equipped with a kitchen and there is also a lovely big spa bath. Enjoyed our stay but wouldn't stay there again due to lack of internet and phone signal. We needed to be contacted by both phone and internet so therefore had to drive up to the main road to get any signal. Not ideal when communicating with students.

Hubby and I recently visited this lovely place on the side of the plateau. There are 6, I believe, cabins which are nestled away from each other. There is a pool which we used once, only due to the weather. Our cabin was in a spot over looking the paddock next door. Every day, we watched those cows and it was incredibly relaxing. We even gave them names, especially the calf that almost did a faceplant down the slope. The cabins are comfortable and very clean. Ours, unfortunately had a bad WiFi connection and mobile data was patchy. (We had to walk up the driveway to get better reception and contact family). The main bedroom doesn't have a wardrobe so some clothes had to be hung in the second bedroom. We couldn't see the sea, but that wasn't a problem for me. The grounds are diligently kept and it looks like a lot of work for the caretakers. What friendly warm people! We couldn't find the horse and donkey when we looked, but they may have been in an adjacent field and we wouldn't have seen them. The cemetery up the road, was not a problem for us..in fact when the wind gusted through our cabin, slamming the door, we acknowledged that we had a ghostly visitor and said "hello" to it. If you ever get a chance to stay here, do. The minor inconveniences like the technical ones we had, just make you look for other amusements. I got through 2 books, which I've been meaning to read for a couple of years. Thanks for having us guys...it was a memorable stay. P. S. Bring mozzie spray and citronella candles, if you want to sit outside... especially if your cabin is close to the creek.
