We love staying in older,, independent hotels and this one did not disappoint. It was built in 1913 just as the Oregon coast was being discovered. It's right on the beach and the rooms are charmingly themed by author. We stayed in the Steinbeck room with the front end of the Joad's car. And the facility is well-stocked with reading...

We stayed in the Hemingway Room. Also ate dinner and breakfast in the hotel's restaurant. So many positive things to say: Great staff; fascinating attention to detail in the author-themed rooms. Great reading/game room. Great ocean view. Very fresh ingredients, and high-caliber cooking, at dinner. WONDERFUL fellow guests, all of whom love to read and discuss books. Neat multi-story old...

Our hosts were most friendly & helpful. The hotel has a parking lot. This is a literature themed hotel thus without T.V.s. Sign up for their gourmet dinner. They have a pleasant gift shop. Each room is cleverly decorated for an author. The library has two levels, access to hot beverages, board games, comfy chairs, portraits of authors, & ocean...

First, if you are a heavy TV watcher or someone who is addicted to a Smart Phone, I'm guessing you will not be very happy here. On the other hand, if your idea of a good time is to curl up with a book and maybe a cat on your lap, this is the hotel for you. If your intentions...

My first stay at Sylvia was a pleasant one. I was in the Emily Dickinson room and upon arrival, had a lovely guest waiting for me (the house cat). :) The experience to stay at Sylvia is really just that. A fun experience. If you go into it no expecting high end, B&B, with a lot of 'amenities' then you...

Located right on Nye Beach in Newport. Great place to relax and unwind from the ever-constant electronic devices. No phone, radios, TV's or wifi on the property and guests are encouraged to use their cellphones outside when making calls. Wonderful upstairs library overlooking the beach. Rooms range from quite small to large suites. You get what you pay for. There...

This time we splurged on the Agatha Christie room. Spacious corner room with fireplace and private deck and ocean view. Breakfast is consistently good...many pastry items repeat, because they're good, but the hot dishes vary. Oven coated pepper bacon is most excellent. Great place to read, and leave electronics behind. Dinners are tasty...but family style in that you have several...

We chose the quirky beach hotel because of it's literary theme and it's coastal location. We were three ladies averaging about 45 years old and we were the youngest guests. One of us is weakened by cancer, so we chose the Stienbeck room on the first floor. It had twin beads with squeaky springs and the mattresses were so soft,...

My husband and I have been to the Sylvia Beach Hotel in Newport Oregon nearly a dozen times. We love the location --right on the cliff over looking the ocean -- and the rooms are decorated in the themes of various authors. It is REALLY quiet. No TV's, no telephones, and no internet. Don't expect first class; it's not. But...

We ate dinner there. Must have reservations. It's a one time seating at 7:00. There were 15 people dining at two tables. It was excellent food, and such fun to actually get to meet other travelers and learn a bit about them. After dessert we went upstairs and had spice hot wine and more conversation. How often do you get...
