We spent several days at Tim & Susan's. One other guest while we were there. Shared meals, good food. Lodge is hand-built and very functional and comfortable. We went on a trail ride. I'm an experienced rider and they gave me a mannerly horse. My husband is a beginner and they put him up on a gem, a really sweet...

Most people come here for their "cowboy experience," a multi-day horseback journey into the Steens Mountain backcountry. We were there after the riding season had ended, and stayed in the house for two nights as part of our 10-day trip around the spectacular and remote countryside of central and SE Oregon and northern Nevada. Arrived and almost instantly started helping with loading the horses and the packs for the 4 days out at cow camp. We drove about 5 miles to where...

This is a ride unlike any other! There's no plodding along on an overused trail here. These rides go up to the high country, on a working ranch, in one of the most beautiful areas of the west. Our hosts, Tim and Susan, are salt-of-the earth cow folks, who were gracious, welcoming, and never tired of answering our questions. Our...

My husband and I and our two girls (ages 11 and 8 “and a quarter”) spent a memorable afternoon in April at the Steens Mountain Guest Ranch. We had been in Burns, Oregon for the migratory bird festival and wanted to spend another day taking in the striking scenery of SE Oregon, before heading elsewhere on our vacation itinerary. And...
