Stayed the night in the Running Horse teepee with a private soaking tub and it was wonderful. The teepee was incredibly clean and had fans going to keep it cool. The soaking tub was huge and my 6'3'' husband had no problem stretching out in it. The hot spring water is actually very hot, which I appreciated. There is a portopotty right next to the teepees that was easy to access and regular restrooms and showers a short walk away. They also had coffee in the morning starting at 7:00am and a group kitchen area. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

Visited Crystal Crane recently with my wife; we had visited in the past but not within the last few years. The owners have definitely added some welcome improvements. There's now a row of suites with bathrooms and private soaking areas that are reasonably priced in addition to the primitive cabins and private soaking tubs.
The main pool has also been partially concreted around the edges and the bottom completely covered in pea gravel, which, if you don't like the feeling of mud between your toes, is a nice touch.
Despite the hot springs being pretty full up with RVs and campers, it was actually fairly quiet and peaceful. Most people were following social distancing protocols and the staff was masked, perhaps not perfectly, but close enough.
The location is definitely more popular and less rustic than it used to be, but it's still a welcome respite.

A friend and I recently spent one night at Crystal Crane Resort in one of their campsites and absolutely loved our experience. While this is not a high-end resort, it is very well kept and maintained. The campsite we had was very spacious and just a short walk to the restrooms, showers, and hot spring pond. The bathrooms, showers, and changing rooms were exceptionally clean as they are clean every hour during the day. There is a camp kitchen that is fully stocked with all the pots and pans and dishes needed to cook your meal. The hot spring pond is open 24/7 which allows for late night soaks and star gazing, as well as early morning sunrise watch. The folks that manage this site are so nice and willing to help if you need anything. While kids are welcome, I'm not sure there is enough here to keep them occupied and happy, but for adult, it wonderful. I definitely want to go back when I can stay longer.

We've been to Crane before the pandemic and it was good but rustic. The changes they've made in the last year make it nearly magical. The pond is clean and easy on the feet, big enough to swim in but still feels private. Perfect for stargazing or sunrise, even smokey sunrises, and definitely hot enough (all the way from bathtub temp to the Lobster Pot).
The Sheepherder's Wagon and it's private tub and patio can't be beat. Coffee available in the commons from 7 am doesn't hurt either!
Things to remember: this is the Outback. There will be bugs. And dirt. And dust.
It's a work in progress, they are adding an additional bathhouse which will make the walk to a john easier, but don't expect a private bathroom. Same with the food - the kitchen is small and old but perfectly serviceable, but they could use an additional fridge; it gets filled up quick. Also - food is a few miles away, in Burns. No one is going to deliver you a pizza. Come prepared.

Fantastic soaking pool, about 90 feet across with a volcanic gravel bottom, about 5 feet at its deepest. New paved edge and underwater benches along part of the pool in 2020, plus a separate hot tub with really hot water. In the pond you can soak nearer the hot water inlet (I estimate around 106 degrees) or farther away, where the water is as cool as about 100 degrees. I visited on a Sunday night in December; only a few people were in the huge pool at sunset, and early the next morning I had the pool to myself. The area is way out of town and very quiet, and I enjoyed listening to the calls of waterfowl in the nearby wetlands.
I stayed in a modest "Sage Inn" room and found it very comfortable and clean. The new Commons Room was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and I spent an hour by the big stone hearth before bedtime. The office had good microwave dinners for sale, so I didn't have to drive a half hour into Burns to eat - so I had more time to enjoy the pool and the peace and quiet! I'll be back.

I’ve been coming to the hot springs for 15 years now. The minerals in the spring water makes your skin smooth. The location is great. The Steens are pristine and unique. They are trying to accommodate an experience for a variety of folks. I’ve camped there in past with an RV but this time we stayed in their adults only rooms. These rooms are plush and feature a private tub in a private patio. They also had a giant big screen TV with about every known channel.
I love to see the many children enjoying the pond. It has to be creating memorable moments for our little gems.
It’s definitely worth a visit.

The hot springs are great - There is a large pool and it is open 24 hours a day....We usually go out in the evening and hope to see some falling stars. Bring a floatie or pool noodle to make your time in the pool more enjoyable.
They have a wide range of accommodations to fit your needs and budget. The staff is friendly and the facility and rooms are clean. There is a small kitchen that you can use and a rec room to gather in and play games or read.
There is nothing else nearby so come prepared to just relax or venture into the town about 20 minutes away...

We stayed at Crystal Crane during a 3k mile, 5 state road trip with our kids and our truck camper. I took away one star because they let us know right before our trip that they were not longer going to be offering the site that we picked (full hook ups) and we would need to move into one that didn't have sewer because "the owners have decided not to use that as a site any longer." Uh, why not do that a few months from now when nobody else is booked instead of switching it when someone is actually booked and then tell them that they have to move to a non-full hook up site because the full hook ups are all booked? Seems like something they could have done when people weren't actually booked in that spot. That being said, I did like that there are only a handful of sites which keeps the amount of people in the hot springs to a minimum so you can actually enjoy being in the main one. The place was clean and we did (overall) enjoy our stay. Just a note that there are water beetles in the main hot spring and while we didn't notice them at all during the day, my husband and I noticed them in the evening (after dusk) when they would come after our legs. My husband ended up flinging one out of the water to see what it was and it died about a minute after it was out of the water. They didn't seem to be biting but you could definitely feel them. Since they don't put chemicals in the hot springs I don't think there is much they can really do about them since, you know....nature. But they did say they were attracted to things like the color purple (if I remember correctly). Neither of us were wearing whatever color they mentioned and it didn't seem to bother our kids, I don't think that they even noticed because my husband and I were sitting still but they were swimming and moving around a lot. It's not a deal breaker for us as we realize it is part of nature but just a heads up for those that might wonder what they feel under the water once dusk hits.Overall we had a wonderful experience.

Stopped by here for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon - what a great spot! The fee was nominal, and we got to use their showers, the "pond" (really a pool with gravel bottom - very nice), and picnic area. This was great after several days camping in the desert. Very well kept and well-managed. Would like to come for a weekend sometime.

We had just been to Alvord hot springs, spent the week in the desert and needed a place to stay for the night on the way home. We were told about Crane hot springs by a gal at Fields station while grabbing a shake and some fuel. We were shocked as we drove up to the entrance...this place is super cool! The hot spring pool is HUGE. The grounds are very well maintained and the staff is very accommodating. We got a spot in the overflow lot, but it was pretty packed up there so they said we could park out in the field for more privacy. We had plenty of space and had an awesome view of the sunset. $30 for one night. We soaked in the pool for a few hours. plenty of space to distance and enjoy the shooting stars. they lit a fire by the pool, and staff was consistently managing water temps and keeping an eye on the activity in the pool. There was a super annoying dog that would not quit barking in a motorhome near the pool and they kindly came out and let the owners know that their dog was missing them and could they please make sure to go check on the pup. we all appreciated the nice way of them telling the rude dog owner to go take care of the issue lol! you can reserve a TP, or a private little cottage. There is a camp kitchen with insta hot water, micro ect for those that need it. There were some teens jumping in and being teens but the staff again used kindness to get them to chill out a bit. They have a bunch of items in the office to purchase if needed as well. We got a text reminding us about checkout times and another one thanking us for staying. I normaly do not leave reviews but I really think this place is special and hope others find it a wonderful place to stay as well.
