This place is the ideal getaway to rejuvenate your soul. Perfectly located to experience the wonderful Tasmanian wilderness. The lodge is spacious, warm, open, airy and fully decked out for all your needs. Beautiful walks, huge decked bbq/pizza area, and the views oh the views, We loved everything about our stay, right from booking online to checking out. It is the place to reconnect, love, breathe and be happy. Can't wait to revisit. High five to everyone!

The lodge is situated in one of the most pristine and welcomingly isolated micro environments in Tasmania, in the vast, rarely visited Tarkine wilderness in the extreme northwest of the island. Maree, one of the owners and our host, leads a fascinating three-hour hike into the nearby wilderness, cooks incredible dinners, and takes in orphaned wallabies. There is no internet but for our three night stay we didn't miss it. I wish Anthony Bourdain had visited here.

My partner and I stayed at the lodge and were over the moon about our time there! We checked in unexpectedly early however Maree was super accommodating and took us on a breathtaking guided walk through the forest. We saw heaps of wild wallabies and birds during our stay there. Maree definitely made our stay one we won’t forget and we couldn’t thank her enough. Highly recommend staying here and being immersed in the surrounding Tarkine forest.

Response from TarkineLodge, Owner at Tarkine Wilderness Lodge
Responded 9 Dec 2018
Thank you for your lovely kind words. I just love taking guests into the forest for a walk, the joy it brings to peoples faces when they spot the native animals, find the perfect spot to take a photo, or just enjoying the moment and committing the sights, sounds and smells of the Tarkine rainforest to their memory. This is the most rewarding part of my working day, so thank you very much for visiting and taking the time to write a review on your experience. It was an absolute pleasure hosting you at the lodge, and I hope to see you again. Kind Regards, Maree

If you want a place that is isolated, beautiful and quiet, where you can really relax and escape from the modern world, this is the place to go. Imagine having an entire beautiful wood lodge with large windows all to yourself and your guests, then imagine this wonderlodge is built on the top of a hill with views 360 degrees around, then add comfortable seating and bedding, a full working kitchen, a gas fireplace, and Tasmanian quiet nights with beautiful stars, and just for kicks, add in local wildlife from blue wrens to kookaburras to Pademelons to Bennett's wallabies to the occasional echidna to possums to Tasmanian devils to quolls to possible glimpses of duck billed platypi in the streams around the lodge, and then you have a small idea of just how perfectly magical a place Tarkine Wilderness Lodge really is. I cannot express properly just how relaxing and calming this place is, even with a rainstorm outside. Certainly one of the very best places I've visited in the world.

We've just spent a night (sadly only one) at this unique and very special place. We had the whole place to ourselves. It was so quiet and gorgeous. The house is perched on top of a hill overlooking the stunning Tarkine forest. It has 3 generous queen sized bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom. You can self cater or have Maree cook. She provided us with a delicious dinner and all the provisions you could want for breakfast which we chose to prepare ourselves. Maree is a passionate conservationist and we learned so much from her. We did a short one hour guided walk with her through the wilderness. It's stunning. We're now well and truly converted to saving the Tarkine! Thank you, Maree, and best wishes for the future.

What an amazing part of the world. Such an beautiful place in a remote part of Tasmania - although only a 30-40 minute drive on the dirt road, it feels like you could be in your own world, especially at night. What an experience to sit outside at night with all the lights off and gaze at the stars and only hear nature - every city dweller needs to experience this! Maree has done an amazing job with the lodge and is such a welcoming host, so friendly and does an great job cooking dinner. She is very knowledgeable about the forest and I highly recommend going on one of her guided walks. Wasn't too sure what to expect when we arrived - but when we were told we had the lodge to ourselves (as Maree only books it to one couple, or family, or group at a time) we were blown away. Such a great 2 nights. Would strongly recommend doing the Tarkine drive out to the coast either on the way to the lodge or after leaving, depending on what direction you're travelling. Thankyou for a great stay Maree.

The night sky here is really something to behold, no light pollution, just millions of stars. Hope you will inspire other city slickers to come and star gaze :) Kind Regards, Maree

My new husband and I stayed at the Tarkine Wilderness Lodge for three nights during our honeymoon in July 2017...no words will be able to describe how amazing my experience was, but I will try. We planned to do the self-catering plan, where we bring and cook all of our own food because I am vegan and I hate to trouble other people with trying to figure out what to make for me. Maree, the owner and manager of this property went above and beyond and made us vegan friendly soup and dessert upon our arrival...so freaking sweet! We arrived to the place at like 10 pm, but she still met us up at the lodge and showed us around and told us all about how the lodge is 100% solar powered and uses rainwater...which is so amazing! The next morning Maree took us on a three-hour walk through the rain forest. She was really knowledgeable and the experience was amazing. After that, we were able to meet so many wallabies who had been recently released into the wild into the rain forest. The land the lodge on is like hundreds of acres and the wallabies live freely. The lodge is huge, spacious and the architecture is just beautiful. I definitely recommend visiting for this one-of-a-kind experience. The only thing is that there is no phone service or wi-fi at the lodge, which might horrify some people, but it was honestly nice to unplug for a few days.

It was a pleasure to have you stay at such an exciting time in your lives. Honestly it was no trouble to prepare the meal for you, I could not imagine anyone wanting to cook for themselves at 10 pm when on holiday :) Thank you for all your kind words, I agree that it is nice to unplug for a while and just experience the forest and each other with out looking at screens and no interrupting beeps! Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness and love and maybe see you in the future for an Anniversary! Kind Regards, Maree

A good time to travel to the Tarkine area as the temperate rainforest is outstanding at this time of year - mosses, lichens & fungi on the old myrtle beeches, towering stringbarks, blackwoods, dogwood & native laurel - just 45 minutes from Wynyard down a very scenic road the Lodge sits high on a hill overlooking a 360 degree view of the forest area & the surrounding hills, including Phantom Peak hiding in the early morning mists. Double glazed the lodge is extremely comfortable with excellent facilities, kitchen, en suite bedrooms - plenty of good coffee table books to browse through reminding us what a very special place the Tarkine is. Maree is one of the most pleasant patient host one could meet & spoilt us with her carrot cake & apple crumble. We self catered in a well supplied kitchen. We took two 3 hr walks with Maree in the rainforest which we thoroughly enjoyed & whilst the previous guests had been fortunate enough to come across a giant freshwater crustacean, we did spot a bright yellow canary worm & quite a few Mick Jagger Lips fungi! Pademelons & curious currawongs visited & peered through the glass doors of the lodge & we saw scats evidence of Tassie devils. Did we enjoy our time at the Lodge??? You bet we did!! Jane & Graham

Stayed at Maree's lodge to explore the Tarkine Wilderness. It is an incredible location, on the edge of the Tarkine...yep, walking distance! Maree's knowledge and passion for the forest and wilderness is inspiring and infectious. She is a true Eco warrior! Loved her!! The guided 3 plus hour hike was mesmerising, incredibly beautiful and rich in nature, wonder and awe! The lodge was terrific, very clean, exceptionally well appointed, awesome views and bed was excellent! We took up the offer of the catering option and Maree's meals were as heartwarming and generous as she is! Definitely highly recommend!! Go!!
