The Westbury Gingerbread Cottages are a delightful collection of six heritage-listed cottages dating from the 1850's, centrally-located in the historic village of Westbury in northern Tasmania - within easy reach of Launceston airport and the Devonport ferry terminal. All cottages contain their own, individual history and each one offers the convenience of self-catering, with all the mod-cons you'd expect for your stay. Your cottage is styled with period furnishings, in-keeping with the era that the cottages so perfectly represent. Each cottage is appointed with full-kitchen facilities, including cooktop, microwave and full-size fridge; and each one has its own bathroom and laundry facilities, including washing machine and dryer. A digital television, DVD, CD and radio are standard in all our cottages. Explore the inviting spaces your cottage offers, yet take the time to relax and unwind in front of your gas-log fire.

Lovely historical cottage with optional breakfast provisions available. Amanda is a friendly host and the freshly baked bread every day is delicious as are the butter and jam that accompany it. I will definitely be returning to this gorgeous cottage.

Second time I have stayed at the cottages. Westbury Cottages offer unique accommodation. A number of cottages are historical. I have stayed in the 2 brm Servants Quarters, and more recently in the one bdrm Gingerbread cottage. The Gingerbread cottage is for couples and is somewhat secluded from the other cottages surrounded by beautiful gardens. It is serene to sit on the back veranda early in the morning and listen to the gentle tweeting of finches amongst the trees. Coffee is provided for the plunger coffee, as well as milk. I loved the large fluffy towels. Bed linen is hotel quality. And I found it very clean. There is one step between kitchen and adjacent bathroom, and the living room and bedroom. If you have to visit the bathroom at night it is suggested to leave the kitchen light on because the step cannot be seen in the dark. If you are taller than 5'10" remember to duck through the bathroom doorway. Westbury is a beautiful town with a fascinating history trail, and gorgeous Town Common to relax in. It is a great location to stay, with no parking worries, and only 25mins from Launceston. An ideal location within easy reach to explore all the tourist sites of the North. The local IGA is open until 8pm if arriving later in the day and wanting to buy supplies for your stay.

Thank your for your review. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us in the beautiful Gingerbread Cottage. We love that each of our cottages are unique, meaning that we can cater for most requirements. We also love the history of our cottages, some of them dating from the 1850's. Indeed, all of Westbury has an interesting history and it is wonderful that so much of it can still be seen. We hope that you will be able to visit us again, perhaps you can try another of our cottages next time!

Very disappointed in the state of cleanliness we had to damp dust all surfaces of the cottage especially the bedroom due to the thick coast of dust. As I have asthma this is non negotiable. The owner apologised but no offer of refund. We booked through the RAA as part of a 2 week package otherwise I would have refused to pay.

We stayed in the "Gingerbread Cottage" this cluster of old buildings has about 4 cottages all with their own name.
Ours was a farm hands cottage circa 1900 which was brought from a farm in the area. It has been sympathetically extended and modernised so to provide the comforts without losing its charm.
It is very cozy and exudes character with lots of nick knacks, old photos and vintage soap, tea tins and the like in the Aussie farm kitchen.
A plate of cakes awaited us when we arrived which was a nice welcome.
It has a washer and dryer which was handy as we had been travelling a few days.
What a beautiful property.

We have just stayed at the cottages for three nights. They are in a great location for exploring local areas. We stayed in the Servants Quarters and it was very comfortable with great extras like freshly baked muffins and bread each day. Breakfast supplies were plentiful to say the least. BBQ area was handy as were the washing machine and dryer. The cottages are located on a beautifully quiet historic street.

We stayed in the Old Bakehouse for 3 weeks and had a wonderful stay. Amanda is a wonderful host and very generous. If you are looking for a place with quiet roads to cycle on, nearby forest and waterfall walks and really friendly locals, I recommend Westbury, and especially The Gingerbread Cottages

Beautiful cottages in Westbury. Walking distance to town. A home away from home - everything supplied - love the plate of afternoon / morning tea provided each day. Washing machine & dryer, full size fridge, plenty of crockery. Gas heater, electric blankets. A most welcoming place to stay.

We stayed in the one bedroom Gingerbread Cottage and it was darling. If you want to take a step back in Tassie time, this is the way to do it - but with the modern conveniences of indoor plumbing, microwave and washer/dryer. Do ask Amanda to stock your breakfast - her homemade bread was a real treat....and the goodies that magically appeared each day were just icing on the cake. Westbury is a good hub from which to see this part of Tasmania. Mole Caves were beautiful, Trowunna a must (at 3pm you get to snuggle with a baby wombat) and hikes into the hills easily accessible. Wander down to see the platypus (if you're lucky-I was) in the commons, but make sure you stop by the White House Bakery for an exceptional almond croissant along the way.

Thanks so much for your kind review. Indeed, Westbury is a great place to use as your hub and visit so much in Northern Tasmania. We like to put a pin in the map at Westbury, and draw a 45min driving circle around us. The amount of things to see and do within this circle is AMAZING - from walks in Tasmania's World Heritage Area, to wineries in the Tamar valley, river cruises, wildlife parks, farms/shops for local cheeses, Belgian chocolates, berries, salmon - PLUS bakeries (including the lovely, wood-fired, heritage-listed White House bakery - only a 2min walk out your back door!!), museums, art galleries, local crafts - and the list just goes on !! We're so glad you enjoyed your stay in Gingerbread Cottage. It's certainly a special cottage, with so much history. Much care and attention has gone into ensuring the 1880's remains captured, yet not miss out on the "mod-cons". So, thank you - and congratulations on the platypus spotting! They're quite rare to see in the wild - but if you get the timing right, you never know your luck. Safe travels.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Old Bakehouse with our 5 and 4 year old. The house is big and beautiful, the beds very comfortable. The lady is really very nice and makes you feel at home. Breakfast is great and the daily baked afternoon tea is a real treat. We definitely recommend!

Thank you so much for your lovely review. Amanda loves baking special, home-made goods for all our guests - complimentary for all. Breakfast provisions are a truly wonderful affair; with fresh, home-baked bread; a selection of spreads, including home-made jams; bacon, eggs, tomatoes, cereal, juice, milk.........more than you would need for a truly scrumptious breaky. Have a great time touring Northern Tasmania.............Danny
