Delightful hosts Jodie and Cameron were welcoming to there historic home. The rooms are cosy and the beds really comfortable. Highlight is the delicious breakfast with home made preserves, toasted oats and pancakes to order. Lots of nearby attractions including Freycinet National Park and some nice wine farms. Best oysters we have ever tasted at the Saltshaker in Swansea.

Stayed overnight at this lovely historic house. Received a friendly welcome from Cameron who showed us around and ran through all the important info. The bedroom was cosy and a very comfortable bed provided a great nights sleep. We sat in the downstairs lounge room in front of the fire and listened to jazz. It was so relaxing - just...

This lovely old manor house was warm and cozy and full of character. Great breakfast that is included. We stayed there for two nights and visited Coles Bay and walked to Wineglass Bay. Not a lot of food choices in Swansea so worth getting some local cheeses and make a nice platter in the lounge with the roaring fire!

Excellent B&B with fantastic hosts Jodie & Cameron in a classic house with a warm romantic environment. Highlights were sitting by the fireplace eating homemade shortbread and tea and the big breakfast with homemade bread, jam and marmalade. One of the highlights of our trip so far!

This was a highlight of our Tassie trip. The hosts were committed and extra pleasant. They are doing a great job of restoring the twos storey 1840's inn and brewery. When we arrived they put on a log fire and served excellent coffee and home made biscuits in the very atmospheric mid 1800's style living room. They spent time introducing...

We stayed here just one night. The room was very nice with high ceilings. The bed was comfortable. There was plenty of hot water. The highlights for us were the breakfast (most delicious granola and jams for toast) and the telescope available to guests. The night sky in Swansea is amazing!

We had a wonderful time here. The complimentary cup of tea and biscuits served in the lounge room on our first day was so lovely and welcoming. The hosts(owners) were friendly and efficient. The breakfasts were tasty and varied and all of my gluten free needs were catered for so well. The heritage building was beautifully decorated with stylish antique...

My wife and I had the opportunity to stay at this family run B&B in Swansea for 3 nights while exploring the Eastern Shore of Tasmania. Our room had character, was extremely clean and well maintained, very comfortable bed on a quiet street. Centrally located in community. Outstanding (true gourmet level) breakfasts provided: both excellent continental and cooked breakfasts. As...

We stopped in Swansea on the way from Hobart because we wanted to go to Freycinet National park. We stayed 4 nights in Schouten House. We were in the ground floor room. The house is over 150 years old. It has been very nicely done up by Jodie and Cameron. They were lovely hosts. The breakfast was very good, using...

My wife and I stayed at Schouten recently, our room was comfortable with an amazing 4 post bed but with enough of room to store our luggage. The ensuite was good without being exceptional. However as many others have said the breakfast is to die for. Cameron & Jodie are top rate hosts and you could not ask for a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Schouten House Bed and Breakfast is a heritage listed home, rich in history and a well known landmark on Tasmania's East Coast. Built in 1844 as an inn it is one of the first substantial buildings to appear in Swansea when the township was being established around a military base on Waterloo Point. Now a comfortable bed and breakfast offering traditional accomodations and a warm welcome, it is an excellent place to call home while you explore the coast and Freycinet Peninsula, or just as a relaxing getaway. Hearty cooked breakfasts, including options such as scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, or our popular pancakes with (really real) maple syrup and bacon, are included for all guests. ... more   less
