Piermont Retreat offers a serene atmosphere with well-equipped and spotlessly clean rooms that guests have found charming, although some have expressed disappointment with one particular view. While the hotel's location garners consistent praise for its stunning ocean vistas and beach proximity, opinions on value and service are mixed.
Some travelers feel the pricing is steep given the underwhelming service and lack of air conditioning in rooms. Despite this, the amenities, including breakfast and various activities, are generally well-received, with occasional mentions of equipment issues.

Our stay at Piermont Retreat was nothing short of spectacular, and it proved to be the perfect destination for a family getaway. We stayed in one of the beautiful waterfront properties, and waking up to uninterrupted views of Great Oyster Bay and the Freycinet Peninsula was an experience we’ll never forget.
Travelling with our two children, we were thrilled by how well the retreat catered to families. The waterfront property was spacious, beautifully designed, and had everything we needed to feel right at home – from the cosy fireplace to the thoughtful amenities that made travelling with kids a breeze.
The kids loved exploring the nearby beaches and playing on the lush grounds, while we appreciated the tranquillity and opportunity to unwind in such a picturesque setting. The retreat strikes a perfect balance between luxury and nature, offering an escape that suits both adults and children.
Dining at The Homestead Restaurant was another highlight. The menu, crafted from locally sourced seasonal produce, was exceptional, and even our little ones found dishes they adored.
Piermont Retreat truly exceeded our expectations as a family-friendly destination. Whether you're looking for adventure, relaxation, or simply time to reconnect, this place has it all. We’re already looking forward to returning!

We stayed three nights in a deluxe suite which was a pleasure and felt special, spacious, clean, nicely appointed, large en suite area with spa bath. The surrounds are nicely presented and attractive, with good views of the bay and surrounding hills and fields. It makes a very nice base from which to explore the Freycinet peninsula and Maria Island.
WiFi and large smart TV in the room were good.
Five course dinner in the restaurant was $130 per head and add about $100 for a bottle of wine, so very expensive. Serves were small, as you'd probably expect from a "fancy" restaurant, but were imaginative and very tasty. Probably not really worth it, for the price you pay.

Lovely location on the sea with a long beach to walk on. Expensive accommodation at $520 / night but beautifully designed, constructed and equipped cottages. Too cool and drizzly on our stay to take advantage of the pool or tennis court. I appreciated the complimentary birthday bottle of Tasmanian sparkling wine and subsequently enjoyed an excellent dinner at the property’s Homestead restaurant. The provided in-room breakfast ingredients were ok but most properties in this price bracket would provide a ‘proper’ breakfast in the dining area. Attentive and friendly staff.

We went as a groups to celebrate my birthday and it was fabulous! The team couldn't have been more considerate and the accommodation was beyond first class. The weather was typical Tasmania - beautiful, not so beautiful, beautiful - but we had a fantastic time regardless. Walking in the rain here is magical. We had a mix of accommodation (old and new) and all were fantastic; the beds were comfy, the linen and towels clean and soft, and the staff super helpful. The breakfast baskets were more than ample and premium produce. Importantly when we arrived the heaters were on and the place felt genuinely welcoming!!

Staying at Piermont with what must be on of the best views in Australia was just fantastic. 3 nights allowed us to find the nearby beach each day, the best part being that we saw just one person whilst there. The one bedroom cottage was just perfect for our stay, making up our own tasting boards and drinking bubbles for a couple of nights with the third being dinner at the Homestead (which was sensational). Not our first time staying and certainly not our last. Mid winter with the fire going and that view. Almost wishing summer to finish quickly!!

Staying at Piermont Retreat was a highly disappointing experience. My first contact was with a highly-strung, neurotic woman who yelled at me on the phone. She said she had just had a customer complaining at her and she really didn't need to have to clarify points from an email she sent. I said I was sorry that she was upset but perhaps she might consider that I hadn't actually done anything to offend her. She hung up!
The idea of the place is lovely; the cottages are beautifully built the setting is stunning and the idea of having kayaks to borrow and bikes to ride is wonderful in theory. Sadly, in reality the bikes are damaged, with flat tyres and the like but there is no air pump and its clear no maintenance on the bikes whatsoever. The tennis rackets are damaged, no umbrellas around the pool, no proper seating around the pool its awful Its clear there is no actual care for the guest, the aim is simply to make money.
On our first of two nights we were on our way out for dinner when I slipped on the stairs in the cottage which have no handrailing or slip preventative surface. I reported this but there was no follow up.
The idea for dinner is to be fed a set menu devised by the chef at a fair price for a decent restaurant. The prices were the only similarity to restaurants of high quality. The ingredients are all Tasmanian fine produce, so my partner and I were expecting a fine meal. Yet the fish was dry and somehow the hangar steak was as tough as day old calamari. When we mentioned this, we were advised the price of the soda stream sparking water they had served had been removed from the account.
I find Piermont to be lacking in customer service and comprehension about what high end accommodation and food should look like. My sympathy goes out to the owners, who would have spent a fortune on building and maintaining the cottages only to have terrible management running the pace into the ground.
I have saved two groups of friends from wasting their money, I hope to save yours too. I would never have stayed there had I have known what an awful waste of money it is.

Response from Piermont Retreat , General Manager at Piermont Retreat
Responded 13 Feb 2024
Hi Laura, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your recent stay at Piermont Retreat. We'd like to highlight that this feedback is very unusual for us. Regarding the initial phone call, this is absolutely not our norm. Please know that the staff member involved was completely shaken from the experience, as we are not used to such aggressive interactions with our guests. Your reports on the amenities and stairs are appreciated, and as mentioned previously, we are investigating both matters. We regret that the dining experience was not to your liking. We understand this style may not suit everyone, and there are more casual options in Swansea, just 3km away. Since your trip was booked as a gift by a relative, we acknowledge there might have been a lack of information about the Piermont experience. We hope next time you can find accommodations better suited to your needs. Regards, The Piermont Team

Unfortunately the service we received throughout was quite disappointing and certainly below expectations for a premium priced property. Missed common courtesy. Genuine requests like the core component of the breakfast provided was missing. When we enquired if this was simply an oversight, it was just dismissed as bad luck. Reception hours are limited which we can cope with but when we left messages out of hours to the contact provided we had to chase due to no response.
We stayed two nights and couldn't dine at the restaurant either night, once due to closure on a public holiday and the other evening because the small restaurant was fully booked. Clearly our mistake in not pre booking but be warned, pre book. Also be warned they are unable to tell you what is on the set menu till the chef arrives at 5pm on the day. Management did eventually offer with resistance to squeeze us in to dine late to pacify us but it was too late for us so we had a nice dinner in town instead.
Management also tried to address our concerns late into our stay but unfortunately our expectation for a premium experience for a special occasion had already been let down and soured by poor service throughout our stay. I understand the staff member particularly unhelpful has since left the property's employment.

Response from Piermont Retreat , General Manager at Piermont Retreat

Hi Murray, Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. Firstly, we're thrilled to hear you enjoyed our great location and your nicely appointed room - those amazing views are hard to beat. We have noted your feedback and we apologise that this was your experience. A missed breakfast provision is an oversight on our part; unfortunately, small mistakes do happen, and we are sorry to hear that you felt you were not met with good customer service. I would like to point out that our management team did go above and beyond to help improve your experience, with the general manager personally delivering the missed breakfast item, as well as a bottle of sparkling wine and oysters to your room. We also made a plan to fit you in for dinner, despite, as you said, not having a booking being an oversight on your part. On our website and in your confirmation email, it is clearly stated that pre-booking is essential. We also state that the menu is crafted daily; we understand that this style of dining is not suited to everyone. The operating days and hours of the restaurant are also clearly stated on our website, social media platforms, and in your confirmation email; we are open for lunch daily, even on public holidays. However, dinner is a 5-day operation. Rest assured, we've taken note of your concerns and are actively tweaking things for the better. We'd love the chance to welcome you back for a more seamless and delightful experience. Regards, The Piermont Team

This would have to be in the top 5 places I have ever stayed. We stayed in a Honeymoon Spa Studio cottage (number 7) which had partial water views. The cottage was large and well appointed with both a heater and log fire (even in December it was freezing and we lit the wood fire), kitchen, spa bath, over bath shower and toilet. The cottage had a mezzanine level and half a dozen steps up from the sitting/tv/kitchen area to the bed/bathroom so keep that in mind. It also had a washing machine and dryer which came in handy. The cottage was cosy and warm, the staff very welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed the serenity and peace and quiet. For the price, it was well worth staying here and doing day trip around the bay to Freycient. We didn't want to leave and will definitely be back.

After staying in some fabulous cottages & properties while touring Tasmania, we were looking forward to an exceptional stay at Piermont However, this quickly spiralled down to an overall, very underwhelming experience. The property needs to address the sparseness, cleanliness & quality of the cottages. Cabin 11 had mould impregnated within the sandstone styled tiles surrounding the shower/hot tub, & the floor was stained. No grab rails made entry to the tub dangerous, as the tub was slippery. The bathroom lacked amenity kits (except for sanitary disposal bags.) The kitchen was supplied with only 4 coffee pods which was too few for a 2 night stay. Plates, cups etc were placed far to high, particularly for disabled or shorter people. The view was lovely, as were the comfy beds & bathroom Aspar products. However, the property is far too expensive for what it provides & is advertised as, & is definitely not 5 star… more like 3 star. Better options elsewhere for well travelled, mature couples.

The first and most important thing to say is their website does not do this place justice. I was expecting a couple of cottages at the bottom of a farmers field...what we got was a very large estate with lots of different houses all wonderfully spaced out and landscaped complete with swimming pool, tennis court, and a very large private beach. Our kids loved just riding the provided mountain bikes around the place.
We stayed in a three bedroom cottage which was very spacious and extremely comfortable for our family of four. The views out towards Hazards Beach and the wider Freycinet National Park were simply stunning.
Breakfast and dinner in the main restaurant were both exceptionally good. We had dinner twice there, on the first night it was cut short (just before dessert) due to a family emergency but said dessert was quickly packed up for us to enjoy back in our cottage. Dinner on the third night was less traumatic and managed to be varied enough from the first to definitely make repeated visits worthwhile even during a short stay. Staff on all occasions were extremely professional and warm and made us feel very welcome and cared for.
The location itself seemed to be a bit far from other activities however on reflection we would rather stay here and travel back to Freycinet. We had stayed at Freycinet Lodge prior to Piermont specifically because its in the national park. Next time, we will stay in Piermont and take the short and enjoyable driver back over if we want to do some bushwalking.

More or less all the cottages have a view (even if small) towards the water. The beautiful raised bedroom area is high enough that you can see the view from your bed. The small dining table is placed close to the open fire but there are long windows situated into all walls, to maximise views out to the trees and grassed areas. When you arrive do not be put off by where your cottage is situated as once inside it will not matter anymore. (( I had 4 nights at Peppers Cradle Mountain. Cost a fortune. We were quite disappointed and would rate that 3,1/2 to 4 )) Very basic inside.
It isn’t 5 star but definitely 4 star. There is a top end restaurant onsite and a few eateries in nearby Swansea just a 5 minute drive away. Both nights we ate at the Bush Mill Tavern. Lovely pub type meals there. The cottage we stayed in was extremely beautiful, well appointed and had everything we needed. Breakfast was available at the properties restaurant! Highly recommend Piermont!
It would depend if your room is located near the construction area. Rooms are spread out over quite a large area. You would be best to contact the resort (email) to clarify.
There are more places to choose from in the Swansea area.
