We stayed at Charles on Hopkins, Hobart for a week. There were 7 of us in our party. The property is spacious, so we never felt crowded, and comfortable and had everything we needed to cook our own meals, do washing etc... A couple of minor maintenance issues were resolved extremely quickly. Very easy people to deal with. The property is located in a suburb just outside of Hobart CBD but we found it easy to drive to or catch public transport. It was also perfectly located for drives to other areas such as Mt Wellington, Richmond & Mt Field National Park. When we ate out, the local restaurants were nothing fancy but the food was good and reasonably priced - especially the Thai place around the corner, which was superb. We would definitely stay again if we came back to Tasmania.

Called in for an overnight stop whilst driving down the east coast. Unfortunately as we were still in the high season there wasn’t much available in the key tourist spots. The accommodation is well managed and the front of desk staff were very polite. They moved on the price a bit for a two bedroom cottage but as we only needed a one bed it was still expensive for us. Would suite a family staying longer but for us it was an extravagance which is ironic as it’s a very basic functional stay. Milk and coffee was a nice touch but for quality standard and location it’s expensive for what you get.

Hi Andrew, Thank you for your review and comments. We are sorry that you felt that your accommodation was not of the quality and price to which you prefer. Sadly, two bedroom cottages are a fully furnished and fully equipped house and therefore cannot be let at motel rates especially for an overnight stay. As you mentioned we tried to assist you with a reduced rate as all other accommodation in the town was booked out as it was peak season. Perhaps book ahead when in peak season so that you can book more suitable accommodation.

A gorgeous small but cosy 2 br cottage and wish we stayed longer than 1 night.  It was clean, comfortable and with great heating as it was quite cold. The only thing water pressure wasn't strong. It had a washing machine and dryer so it was great to do a load or two. Parking was great, right next to our cottage. Would definitely stay again even though it is quite expensive.

Staying here was one of the stops on our honeymoon. We stqyed for three nights.

The cottage is very well set up and the concept of having the master bedroom upstairs with a toilet, kitchenette and a two person spa is awesome.

BUT it was very disappointing that the spa was not working properly ie very little in the way of air coming from the jets. It was for all purposes just a big bath.

It was acknowldeged by staff that we had specifically requested that specific cottage so as to have the upstairs setup with the spa which we paid premium price for.

Even more disappointing was to have a response of 'we're sorry but the owner wont be back until after you leave but you're free to see if you can fix it yourself' and then not offer of a discount for not being able to utilise the very thing that was the reason why we booked there in the first place.

Response from Rob Golley, General Manager at Swansea Cottages & Lodge Suites
Responded 29 Sept 2023
Hi Bobby, We are sorry that you experienced a problem with the spa and sadly staff were unable to assist in this instance as like yourself they had no idea as to what the problem was or could have been. Being in the country we experience a shortage of trades people such as plumbers and being several hours from Hobart plumbers can take a few days or even weeks to schedule a visit. Then if parts are ordered, sadly further delays. I am not making excuses, however staff cannot just fix something they know nothing about. The last spa that I fixed I found a guest had let a face washer be sucked into the air intake resulting in blocking the pump. Once again, I do sincerely apologise that the air flow was not as good as it could be, although apparently the water jets were still working well. I wish that I could have been onsite to have a look at it for you and once again apologise for the spa not working as you expected. Thanks Rob

Hubby and I are travelling through Tasmania and called into Swansea to look for accommodation for the night. We stopped into the Swansea Cottages reception to enquire about a vacancy and greeted by two lovely ladies who were very helpful. We stayed in the most well appointed cottage with washing machine and dryer which was great for us travelling! Spotlessly clean and very comfortable bed and furnishings and great value for money.
Will definitely stay here again on our next travels on the east coast of Tasmania.
10/10 Highly recommend.

Two nights in Swansea was perfect. Quiet little town & Swansea Cottages was a great place to rest awhile. Our unit was very well equipped with everything you need. Appreciated fresh milk & having hand sanitiser available. Never seen a TV mounted on BIR door before but it worked well - open door for watching TV in bed or closed for watching from the couch. Loved having a bathtub to soak in too.

Individual cottages each three apartments on the ground floor. Our apartment was a bit old, but quite ok. Reserved parking is available per apartment. A restaurant is nearby and a bottle shop.

Very comfortable cottage accommodation, which we have used for the last 3 years. Close to beach and were well looked after by host Rob. Nice BBQ set up, and large grassed area which we used to display our cars.

We had a wonderful overnight stay. Would have enjoyed staying longer if we had more time. Found this place at random while on a Tasmania road trip. Unit was very clean and comfortable. No cooktop in our unit, but did have a microwave. Also had a nice soaking tub. Town is small and very walkable to grocery and restaurants. We would enjoy staying here again.

Could you explain the difference between the Cherry cottage and a family room?
Answer from Rob G
Tasmania39 contributions13 helpful votes
Hi Karen. Thanks for your enquiry. Cherry Cottage is a fully self-contained accommodation; with 2 separate bedrooms, bathroom, a full kitchen (oven, stove-top, dishwasher, sink, pots & pans, microwave, crockery, all utensils, fridge etc), as well as a dining/living room and laundry. The Family Suite is a motel-style room with a single bed and a queen bed in the one area, which also contains a small sofa, table and chairs, tea & coffee making facilities, a toastter, bar fridge & microwave. There is an ensuite bathroom which has a shower over the bath. I hope this is of some help in making your decision. Regards - Sally
