Wagners Cottage is heritage listed and the gardens and estate are still surrounded by original drystone walls built by Michael Wagner and his son in circa 1860. Our four cottages are positioned throughout the estate and as such, enjoy an atmosphere of serenity and privacy. We have studio, one and two bedroom cottages, most with open log fires and luxurious spas to enable you to relax fully after a days exploration of our beautiful Freycinet Coast and surrounding wineries.

Detailed Reviews
My partner and our brother and sister in law had the pleasure of staying at Wagner's Cottage this summer, and it was a highlight of our trip to Tasmania. It was a beautiful cottage with so much attention paid to every little item - we really felt that we were staying in someones home, and a very nice home at that. The carpet underfoot was snug and comfy and the fireplace was ready to be lit on arrival. There were rose petals for the bathtub and some port in a lovely decanter - we could not believe how delightful and well thought out the place was. There are many different types of roses on the property, and Belinda was extremely generous with her time telling us about the history of the property and the area. This is definitely a must stay - we especially enjoyed the delicious fresh eggs from the chickens in the garden!

We arrived to a property scattered with beautiful stone cottages and were immediately impressed by our warm welcome from Belinda. Upon seeing our chosen cottage with its solid stone walls, lemon tree and shrub surrounds we were sold. Upon entering the light-filled and warm interior with the private sun filled courtyard outside wide opening glass doors surrounded by an old stone wall and filled with cottage plants we were greeted by the smell of Belinda's just-baked loaf of bread sitting under a cover on the kitchen counter. Eggs and tomatoes from the property alongside this.
Huge bathroom with better facilities than a lot of starred hotels we've stayed at. Everything scrupulously clean and well-provided from the kitchen to the bathroom to the chairs and table in the courtyard.
Belinda is attentive but never intrusive and any request met with a smile.
Just a short stay (2 nights) but a memorable one!

So pleased to see that you two were happy during your stay with us recently. Your Studio cottage was re built from the ruins of the original estate stables and pig sty...circa 1855 ! and the walled garden was once home to a nursery some years ago. He he.....nice to see that Belinda's bread was a hit with you too. Thank you for the great review ! Best wishes....Kerry, Belinda and the doves.

My wife and I stayed at Wagner's Cottages on the night of February 10th, 2023. We stayed in the cottage called The Studio, which has been beautifully rebuilt around the stone ruins of an old stable dating back to 1860. The cottage is absolutely charming, meticulously clean and the owner/manager Belinda has spared no effort in her attention to detail.
There was a fresh loaf of locally-baked sourdough bread for us, the fragrance of which greeted us as we entered the cottage, as well as a decanter of port to sample after dinner. The entire cottage is rustic and lovely, with a vaulted ceiling constructed of shiplapped timber boards with untreated poles as the rafters, their bark still intact. The floorboards are bare Tasmanian oak and there is a lovely English-style cottage garden right outside the French doors, crowded with pink roses, fox paws and other colourful flowers. The space is very private, surrounded by bushes and trees.
The main room is the bedroom, kitchenette and lounge room all in one, with a table, deep comfy armchairs and a TV. The bathroom is very roomy and has a large spa bath to relax in. In fact, the cottage was so welcoming that we decided to forego the search for a local restaurant and just stay in for the afternoon and evening, dining on some crackers and cheese we had brought with us, as well as the tasty sourdough bread. The bed is very comfortable too.
We paid AUD$205 for the one night and do not regret one cent of that (quite reasonable) cost. If we were not on a schedule to get to Port Arthur the next day, we would have stayed another night.
We have no hesitation in recommending Wagner's Cottages to anyone who is passing through the town of Swansea, Tasmania. You will love this place, guaranteed!

Primrose Cottage is a beautifully maintained one bedroom stone cottage with its own semi-formal gardens. It has all the facilities you'd expect and then some. The inclusions and toiletry items are all top notch stuff, no skimping here. It claims to include a continental breakfast but it goes beyond that with fresh eggs provided from the owners' chooks. The owners and managers, Kane and Belinda, are unobtrusive but helpful if needed. All in all an exceptional relaxing experience and very good value. Highly recommended.

I booked these cottages based on reviews from Australian Traveller.... I love roses so was especially interested in seeing the rose garden attached to the property. I was certainly blown away by the amazing garden full of roses, apples, veges, lemons and free range chickens having a great time.
Belinda was so amazing, texting me prior to arrival to check in things. The cottage we chose (studio) was an old horse stable. It was beautifully appointed and attention to detail was superb. Belinda made us feel so welcome and assisted us with tours, sights to see and basically anything else. She also suggested some wineries to visit which we did and they were also fantastic. Our room was very comfortable with lovely reclining chairs, blankets, heating and an outdoor patio complete with blankets as well. There was homemade sourdough bread and fresh farm eggs for breakfast....
This place was so lovely and will most definetly return..
Belinda, I hope that tourism picks up for you and you are busy for ever, just a wonderful property on the way to our next destination Coles bay...

We had the most amazing time at Wagner’s Cottages during Easter. Belinda is an amazing host and to our surprise had the fire place set up and ready to go, freshly cut roses in every room, warm bread and fresh organic eggs waiting on our arrival!
Belinda Gave us great directions to some gorgeous wineries and we had a lovely wine back in the amazing gardens of Wagners Cottages taking in the beautiful scenery. We did not want to leave!
A must do and we will be back!

Wagner’s Estate has a number of wonderful cottages. This trip we stayed 4 nights at Primrose Cottage. It is beautifully set up to cater to the needs of a couple. The tranquil setting has delightful gardens that provide privacy and creating a buffer between each of the cottages so you can feel totally secluded.
There is an abundance of birdlife to spot fluttering around and we were also lucky enough to have several variety of ripe apples ready to pluck from the trees...crisp,juicy and delicious. Vases of roses and other flowers grace the interior too.
Every effort has been made to make feel guests welcome and pampered. There are generous supplies of fresh eggs, home baked bread and other produce along with added “extras” like chocolates, port, boutique tea blends and a copious selection of coffees.
Luxurious toiletries and towelling robes complimented the large deep spa bath. The bed is very comfortable and the technology discrete, with good WIFI, Netflix etc.
Hostess Belinda (and her trusty hound Angus)readily provided assistance and personal recommendations based on her useful local knowledge and experience which added yet another layer to our enjoyment.
We were blessed with blue skies and sunshine but Primrose is also very well equipped with electric blankets, heating, snuggly throw rugs and a large enticing wood fire ready to cater for all the seasons.
So if you are Tasmanians “Holidaying At Home” or perhaps more far flung visitors beginning to explore our state as COVID restrictions loosen, you can be confident that exploring the East Coast using Wagner’s Estate & Primrose Cottage as your base in Swansea will create some treasured memories.

Whoo Hoo Alison ! What a great review ! Belinda will be chuffed to see that you not only enjoyed your beautiful Primrose cottage and all that it has to offer, but that her local tips were welcome too ! It really is rewarding for us to see that you enjoyed your time at Wagners cottages estate. Being brought up next to an apple orchard myself, I too relish beating the birds to a nice apple from one of our trees ! Warm regards.....Kerry, Belinda and Angus.

The reviews are correct for this accommodation – it is first class! My wife would simply say it was like staying in a ‘day spa’ for a couple of days....absolutely nothing is forgotten and you will not be disappointed.
The cabins themselves are as you see on the website at around c1860 and so professionally maintained. Grounds are wonderful to walk around and filled with cottage-style plants.
Belinda has this accommodation under control well and truly and misses nothing. Fresh bread, eggs, milk, heated floor in bathroom (we stayed in the Studio)...and anything else you can think of. Check out the website as it is just as described.
We will go back no question if we are ever in the area.

If you’re looking for 5 star experience look no further. This is the place for you. From a honeymoon to a family vacation Wagners cottages are perfect. All the finishing touches were seen to and made our stay just sensational.
We stayed in Hollyhock Cottage for 4 nights in January. Everything, from the initial booking made months ago, to check in was seamless.
Upon checkin, Belinda had provided us with a recommended itinerary for our first afternoon which included everything we love, wine from a cellar door to freshly shucked oysters!
We received a freshly cooked loaf of bread and there were jams, eggs, fresh milk and coffee pods available complementary.
We could not have asked for better.
Thank you so much Belinda we loved our stay, everything was sensational.
