Had one of the best Thai meals in my life last night - would never had expected that out in the Tasmanian wilderness at Strahan. (PS My wife and I are over 60 and have done cooking school in Bangkok so we eaten a lot of thai food over the years and have some clue)

Under new management and with new chefs this little gem has expanded its menu to include authentic Thai food that will knock your socks off.

We had money bags, satay chicken entrees (really generous servings) and the Crayfish special. Having knocked back having a crayfish in Launceston ($160) we jumped at the chance of having a whole crayfish, straight off the dock, for only $95. They had 4 ways of serving it, and very cleverly allowed you to do a half and half of 2 different tastes. We had half with namjim and the other half "Thai spicy salad". Namjim was really nice, but the other was simply superb - the fragrances drew the attention of the next table when it arrived.

So good we are going back tonight, and we are only in Strahan for 2 nights so that tells you something.

BUT, make sure you book - they were turning people away.

Had dinner in the Cafe tonight and was quietly surprised at the yummy home cooked meals that were large, piping hot & delicious.
Easy going staff and really friendly atmosphere

We stayed in the unit upstairs which was really cute and very comfy bed!
Excellent location to great coffee, walks & Gordon River Cruises.

Prior diner reviews prompted my husband and I to book dinner at The Bushman’s and we weren’t disappointed. We began with the fish cakes and oysters accompanied with a glass of sparkling wine and both entrees met our expectations. My husband then ordered the fish laksa and I the mushroom risotto and both were well balanced and flavoursome, a treat for our palates (delectable). The bottle of Watervale Riesling that we shared with our mains was a pleasing match. We were very happy with our dining experience at The Bushman’s and would recommend it to others who are seeking something a little special in Strahan.

Absolute over priced out dated dump, not very clean windows were disgusting and the most uncomfortable bed imaginable.
Host was far from friendly when it came to a refund.
Got far better accommodation a few meters down the road at a better price.

Great Thai food, very fresh and flavoursome. We had the spring rolls, satay skewers, crying tiger & chicken cashew dishes. The staff provided great service with a selection of Tasmanian wine to top it off. Highly recommend!

View was great and very close to the cruise dock. The deal-breaker was the compressor running all night right outside room 3. If you can sleep next to a busy airport go for it but I wouldn't stay here again if the room was free. The "high speed "wi-fi" is slow and you need to be on line to connect. The chicken wire holding the stairs together is downright dangerous. Avoid at all costs.

Found this place online and was very happy with my accommodation. Warm welcome from Stavros.
Bed was comfortable, shower was great and the lounge area was very roomy with great views of the harbour.
Might be a bit tricky for older visitors to get into the shower/bath which has pretty high sides - but this also makes for an amazing bath to soak in :)
Convenient location as walking distance to tourist attractions with onsite parking.
Remember to book if you want to have dinner downstairs - it is very popular.

We had booked two of the rooms above the cafe for a one night stay. They are pretty basic but have a nice view of the water and are straight across the road from the Gordon River Cruise departure point. The bed is comfortable and you step down from the bed section to a sitting area. There is virtually no wardrobe space so you won't be unpacking.
At some time late in the afternoon, a very loud humming noise started up in my room. Upon enquiring about it, I was told dismissively that it was the exhaust fan in the kitchen below my room and that the noise would stop "at the end of service tonight and then all you'll hear is the sound of the birds". Well, that noise did eventually stop when the restaurant closed and everybody went home. However, the "birds" must be humming birds because another humming noise started up. This wasn't quite as loud and wasn't as constant but the fact that it turned on and off regularly meant that sleep wasn't going to happen. I'd already had to turn off the bar fridge because it was so noisy. There was nothing in it except two glasses anyway.
At around 2am, I got so sick of the noise that I went outside to see if I could find the source. It was what looked like an an old-style air conditioning unit attached to the wall just below my room (presumably for the restaurant kitchen). There was no obvious way of turning it off and I'd left my sledgehammer in my other pyjamas so I went back inside to fashion a pair of earplugs out of toilet paper. Not surprisingly, they weren't very effective. Fortunately, her room didn't have the noises and she slept fairly well.
NB - From the time the restaurant closes until someone turns up to reopen it, there is nobody on site to sort out problems for guests. We had to be out before 8am to board the cruise boat so there was no one around to talk to about the noise nor was there anyone around when we returned a bit after 2pm. On checkout, you just close the door and leave your room key in it. We had a long drive to get to Hobart for dinner so we just left - muttering things like "never again" (and worse).
My room was room 3 - the one on the left looking from the street.
