We stayed here for a couple of nights recently. We picked this place due to it’s location. Close to the esplanade and shops, and with an IGA close by. Two level apartment, with living area and kitchen downstairs, the main bedroom upstairs. Very spacious and would easily accommodate a family (there were just the 2 of us). It was very clean and quite comfortable, and also nice and quiet. Minimal street noise. Bathroom was also a very good size. There is a laundry for guests (complimentary) which was very handy, and off street parking. A good place to stay whilst sightseeing in the Strahan area.

Stayed here for 2 nights and we were sad to go. Just a short walk from strahan waterfront to the restaurants and walks nearby. Also an Iga supermarket right around the corner. Everything you would need here including hob, microwave and free laundry.
Impeccably clean, lovely big apartment really good value for this standard of accommodation would definitely go back.

We stayed for one night at Aldermere Estate in October 2005. It was fantastic. Strahan is a tiny and remote place and the choice of accommodation is fairly limited. Aldermere Estate is in a league of its own. It consists of around eight 2 storey apartments in a converted Victorian building, which each contain 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (one with a spa bath), and a very generous kitchen, dining and living area. The apartments are very tastefully decorated.

The owners are incredibly welcoming and friendly. When you arrive, a full continental breakfast is waiting in your kitchen for the following morning. The apartments are a short walk from the esplanade where you will find bars and restaurants and the boarding points for the Gordon River cruises.

At $180 AUS (about £75) per night this was incredible value for money - particularly as 4 people could stay in one apartment very comfortably. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Aldermere Estate to anyone and would love to go back and spend more time there.

This self catering accommodation is well located [quiet, and close to local shops and only approx 5 mins from Harbour] and well equipped.

Owners very friendly/helpful and on arriving late we were pleased to find they'd left the fire on to warm the place. When we found that the main reason we'd come, a chance to ride the Wilderness Railway, had disappeared due to Covid 19 issues, they even offered to refund part of our stay if we wished to leave early.

We decided to stay, and indeed are glad we did as it's a lovely town with enough to do for a few days.

The only thing that would stop us visiting again was the quality of the beds; both being basic/small doubles with cheap/badly sprung mattresses that saw us all sag into the middle to fight the night out ! Not 'luxury' in that regard. With better beds would visit again, and be happy to pay more too, as rest was very good.

I thought the place was lovely and clean!
The owner on the other hand is a let down. Not only was she drunk most of the time, she wanted to drink with her guests!
No one was at the reception desk when we were checking out, even when we called her she said she had, had a big night so won't be in for a while! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!

We stayed in a two bedroom self-catered apartment for two nights during our visit to Strahan. The accommodation is spotless and has most of what you would expect in this type of lodging. (good size fridge, cooking facilities, dining table, good sized sofa TV etc.) We were greeted by Sheree, the owner who was very happy to sit down with us and provide us with information about the local attractions. Also provided in the apartment was milk, tea and coffee supplies which is helpful for the weary traveller. There is a communal laundry onsite which can be used at no charge which is fantastic when you might have been staying in hotels whose laundry rates require a second mortgage. Having a bedroom downstairs and one upstairs with an ensuite meant that there was no crush for facilities at any stage. Sheree also offers a range of novels that are located in the office for patrons to read, and if you have not finished the book before you leave it is okay to take the book with you. A nice touch. There is also an array of videos in the office free for use in your apartment. The apartment’s location meant that you needed a car to travel to Strahan’s main street or at least a good 20 minute walk.

Now, some of the not great stuff about the apartment – not to say that this should put you off but it is always better to be forewarned. When I said ‘an array of videos’ I did mean videos and not DVD’s. We usually take a selection of DVD’s from home just in case of poor weather or if the mood takes us, so our DVD’s were useless to play in the VCR and as there were videos on offer you might conclude that they were of older films. The décor of the apartment is quaint, I would say you could describe it as homely but even though it wasn’t chic it was clean. Again, showing the age of the property was the cassette/radio located in the kitchen. I’m not sure the last time I saw an audio cassette but it must be last century sometime. Having said that, there were flatscreen TV’s (one in the lounge area and one in the bedroom upstairs).

Staying at Aldermere Estate is not cheap, but having said that it doesn’t purport to be a 5 star luxury hideaway, but there are probably three items that as a traveller I look for in a quality accommodation. A good bed (this is subjective), good quality toilet paper and good quality coffee if coffee is supplied. In Aldermeres case, the queen sized bed upstairs was passable – a little case of both my partner and me rolling into the middle a few times probably means that the mattress needs to be changed over. The toilet paper was the cheapest one ply stuff you could possibly buy and the coffee sachets were International Roast brand – not particularly inviting. Now, don’t get me wrong, I understand that the owners need to make a profit but with the prices charged I don’t think upgrading the coffee sachets to something like Nescafe would break the bank and surely providing some decent quality toilet paper would be welcomed by all patrons. It is the small things that people remember!

A good place to stay, especially if you are a family or group of friends, but don’t expect too much from this century in the way of electronic equipment and decor.

Found the room to be absolutely beautiful. Tastefully decorated in high end style with timber floors and period furniture. Very close to IGA and chemist as well as Strahan village itself. Lovely place to stay.

Thank you Sheree for a beautiful warm place to spend our two days in Strahan. We had everything we needed and more so much room and elegance. The fire place was on when we arrived and Sheree gave us a map with all the local knowledge and we could easily walk down the hill to the cruise terminal for the Gordon River Cruise. The film of the play The ship that never was film was playing at Risby Cove which we saw after the cruise then had the best meal at the restaurant their at the cove cooked by a french Chef. Wonderful fresh Fish and chips shop is opposite the River Wild store best fish and chips ever!

We stayed 2 nights with 2 couples and the setup is ideal with 2 ensuite double rooms. It is well equipped, clean and well located for the town and activities. No views but lovely on the onside. Sheree is very helpful and available if there are any problems. It's pricy but then all Strahan accommodation is. Not bad value if you're sharing with another couple. Wold recommend and return.
