Older home but large, clean and very well-equipped. We were very grateful for the washing machine and laundry items. The only negative is some of the flyscreens on the windows were damaged and some did not have screens at all so we couldn't open the windows for fresh air. The house is on a quiet street and private, not too far from town and the local attractions.

What great value. Had a great time and very much enjoyed the comfort of home. Spotlessly clean. Every need catered for. Quiet location. Highly recommended and will definitely be back! An absolute credit to the owners.

I booked a two bedroom cottage for two adults as we are not a couple and wanted our own room and bed each as the website said. When we arrived we expected there to be a reception or a key available somewhere, no just a sign with a mobile number for guests to phone, the lady on the phone was very abrupt as if it was an inconvenience, hey how else was we going to get a key it was mid afternoon? The lady kept us waiting for over 45 minutes and was just as abrupt in person and asked personal questions. Who does that? We go inside and discover there is only one bedroom? Then to our amazement we find the other bedroom is locked and no key fits it, so we phone the lady again, named Margo. She states well there was only two of you so a queen bed should be suffice!!!! People like her shouldn't be in the hospitality business. These are miners cottages which is great but they are poorly decorated and poorly maintained.

If it was possible to record Zero stars I would, we paid $255/night for a 3 bedroom old shack...the beds were all hard, noisy and very uncomfortable, the floor boards were noisy...there was only 1 roll of toilet paper for 5 people for 2 nights, the hot water ran out one morning..and I really didn't appreciate the list of 'rules/threats' over the sink...threatening to charge credit card if things were not left just so.. I hope this saves someone making the same mistake..Margo needs to visit a $255/night accommodation in Hobart, try the Bakers retreat on bakers street and see what luxury at $250/night really is.

No reception - find your own cottage and let yourself in. Never saw any staff. If you scratch the glass top of the stove the fine is the cost of a replacement stove. If any evidence of smoking inside the fine is 2 nights accommodation fee. Failure to wash, dry and replace all crockery etc. $50. For a 3 night stay I have never seen Chux cut in to a 6inch square before - how frugal! Our earlier 3 night stay in Penguin was in a genuine high class establishment, complete with dishwasher and clean windows for $30 night cheaper. It was very quiet in Strahan and most places had vacancies so would have expected to be treated a bit better than this.

Hi Ann Many thanks for review and we are very sorry that our accommodation did not meet your needs. The signs in the kitchen are up for a reason which is to enable our guests to have facilities that are in excellent working order. We have had guests in the past that have smoked inside, necessitating the need for curtains to be dry cleaned and everything else to be washed again. As the only dry cleaning place is 2 and a half hours away and the dry cleaning only comes back to Strahan once a week, which means the cottage would need to be closed for a week. The sign about the washing up is there so that guests do their own washing up. I have had guests would don't mind being charged for me to do the washing up. As you can appreciate, that when every piece in the kitchen has been left to be washed up, that this takes time. I will make sure that the Chux is not cut to such a frugal size. We buy it by the roll so it needs to be cut. May be we need to have a cheaper rate and then charge a cleaning fee. Do you think that this would be better? The windows on the inside are all clean, but when I have been able to clean the outside ones, the weather has not made it possible. As for no reception that is correct. This is clearly stated on our website and the other websites that we are joined with. Most of my guests do not have a problem with this. The guests often like being left alone. We have stayed at places in the past where there has also been no reception, but that the host has always been available by phone, and found that this suits us.I work at another job and am not always available to come around and greet my guests. I also often turn up to meet my guests, and they are often out. I am always available by telephone and the numbers are listed in the compendium on the coffee table in the lounge room. Once again we are very sorry that our accommodation did not meet your needs. We do wish that you had contacted us about your concerns. We value your feed back and we aim to improve on the problems that you have raised. With kind regards Margo and Mark Davis Owners

The location was easy to find. Sarah cottage was a lovely place to stay. All amenities were provided. It was also very clean and tidy. The shower was one of the nicest any of us had used for a while. The bathroom was nice and big. The beds were comfortable and had plenty of linen. The only negative was the lack of WiFi.

There are many pluses. Very well equipped and spotlessly clean house (much more than a motel unit) and a friendly proprietor who has deep sense of responsibility for her property. The heaters were on when we arrived. The house really lacks for nothing. All that said it is strange that it has no wifi connection, something we would have valued in this isolated community as we were to encounter snow the next day. The number of warning notices throughout the house was somewhat disconcerting but I could only conclude that the owner had been 'bitten' before so we weren't troubled. Be aware that you would need a car to stay here as its some distance from the town and its facilities. Those with a car need not be too troubled. There was a storm during our stay which caused the door on the meter board to slam but that would easily be repaired. Given the concern for tidiness within we found the puddles and uneven surface at the back door near the carport a bit frustrating. We don't want to sound too negative about what was essentially a good place to stay but offer these comments in a positive way.

Stayed at GreenGate Cottages for 2 nights with my Mum for the New Year. Spotlessly clean with two large bedrooms, with a good living room with modern TV, comfy lounge and air conditioning. With a good kitchen with new fridge and oven. With washing machine for those staying longer.

Margo visited us on the second day and was a gracious host with lots of great tips. Would recommend for singles, couples and families (Mum and Dad plus 2 kids).

The positive is that this is on a very quiet street, the 2 bedroom Henty house is huge and spacious, and the beds and couches are very comfortable. It's a little run-down with wrinkly and broken linoleum on the floors and peeling paint on the dining room walls, and cobwebs and dirty floors in the toilet area.

I am sure the owner tries hard, but there was a stinginess with the amenities that was rather disappointing. There was no small milk in the fridge as stated, no soap for the shower, no dish detergent to wash the dishes, no laundry detergent as stated, and a quarter of a role of toiletpaper for the 3 nights. We notified the owner, who explained that she could not come down to rectify this and would send someone the next morning. We waited until 11 am, but then headed out and bought the supplies ourselves. We took a photo of this and sent it to the owner. There was no offer to reimburse us for having to buy our own soap and toilet paper and dish detergent, just an apology. Some supplies were left on our doorstep when we came home that evening.

All in all, it was one of the more basic places we've stayed at and not the best value for the money (Strahan is full of rather nice locations - consider your options). However, the large bedrooms, the quiet location, and the spaciousness of the house were really appreciated.

The cottage was comfortable but you felt very uncomfortable with the owner leaving signs all over the cottage that if you do this it will cost you one night accommodation if you scratch the stove top you will have to pay to replace it if you leave dishes you will be charge $25 there is a washing machine but no dryer no wifi I feel that she does not really want people to stay there only wants the accommodation money

So sorry that our accommodation did not meet your needs. As we have been "bitten before" with guests causing damage to our accommodation. After much thought we put the signs up after consulting with travellers, to find their views. Very sorry if this offended you. It was not meant to offend. As far as wifi goes we are unable to supply wifi across three houses because of the logistics. We have consulted Telstra about this and the only solution was cost prohibitive, which would dramatically increase the cost of our accommodation. As for a dryer we actually don't have a dryer ourselves so we have never considered them a possibility. We provide an outside line which will shortly be undercover and a clothes airer. It would have been great if you had of contacted me direct with your concerns. We strive to offer fabulous accommodation at a reasonable price and value feedback. As I said earlier so very sorry that our accommodation did not meet your needs. But thank you for your valuable feedback. With kind regards Margo Davis Owner Greengate Cottages
