Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were warmly welcomed by Ting Ting our host who was very attentive throughout our stay. We had a great view of Bass Strait and the Penguin "CBD" from our room. The hotel is one block back from the ocean on a quiet street, so our room was very quiet. We would definitely stay here again if we are ever in Penguin or the surrounding area.

Location is amazing and the view from room 1 upstairs was lovely. We specifically booked 2 rooms with fold out couches, as we are 4 single people. So this review is really a heads up for those needing extra fold out beds. The couches in rooms 1 & 5 are the type where the back folds down…. They are not beds and were ‘unsleepable’. They also don’t have linen to suit these couch beds. The regular beds were fine - quite comfy. The appliances could do with an upgrade, especially the toaster.

Was”upgraded” to a hole in wall “bungalow” with bed in back closet with a bare bulb for light. Bunk beds in living room and front room w table. This spot is more suited to someone that needs a studio apartment for two weeks and is doing their own cooking. It’s not a vacation spot

We stayed in room 8. one light in the living area wasn’t working the couches need updating as it is very uncomfortable my partner discovered a toilet roll under couch and dirt on carpet under couch. yes the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was quite adequate and there was sufficient kitchen stuff for our needs. Coffee table on its last legs. The staff were friendly. The location. was fantastic. Just an update. on some furniture and thorough spring clean and place will be good as new.

This is a character hotel in a fantastic location on Main Road in Penguin. Can be a touch noisy when windows are open (there is no AC) but for location that’s a small inconvenience. It is not the 4 star hotel it is advertised as & I think the price reflects that. We were not expecting anything fantastic for what we paid. Our room was spacious. The bed was comfortable. Small dining table & lounge were fine. The decor is dated & needs a refresh. The room however wasn’t as clean as expected. It smelt of soured milk (we had to keep windows open to air room out), the towels were stained & I had the urge to clean the very grubby blinds in the bathroom. Even the street entry was unkempt. I did write the owners a note - it’s totally contactless checkin/checkout so you can’t see them. The hotel has the potential to be fantastic. It just needs a good cleanup & refresh.

Nice location and some thoughtful touches like the bar out the front, however, I got no sleep. The stairs are noisy and I could hear the people upstairs all night - even them using the toilet. Gross!! Noisy air con or fan from the shop next door also woke and kept me awake. Toilet in my room was not clean - skid marks 😳 I couldn’t help but wonder for the rest of my stay what else hadn’t been cleaned.. No soap in the bathroom (only option to open and use the cake of soap). Comfortable bed - shame couldn’t enjoy a sleep in it. Nice location. Friendly staff when I encountered them. They were happy to offer recommendations for local dinner spots.

We were very disappointed with our stay, photos do not match the reality. Our room was in the older part of the hotel, it had a very strange setup with some sort of circular stage in the middle of the room. Very old and tired, in a need of a new paint job and clean. Bathroom is spacious but very dated, certainly not the executive spa claims as advertised. We checked in within one in sight, keys left on desk with a note. Did the same on checkout. Location is great, opposite the foreshore and supermarkets located right next door.
