We are extemely proud that the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania announced in November 2013 that Heimat Chalets is the winner of the 2013 Tasmanian People's Choice Awards. That means that feedback from our guests has placed us as tourism operator number 1 in Tasmania.Equally suitable for couples or a family with children, Heimat Chalets offers absolute peace and relaxation in a variety of luxury but reasonably priced accommodation set on 40ha (100acre) of picturesque farmland in the heart of the scenic Derwent Valley.Heimat Chalets' accommodation comprises:♦ a luxury gypsy wagon with its own ensuite, just perfect for a romantic get away with a difference for 2 people;♦ two modern and stylish 2 bedroom 4 star (self rated) self-contained farmstay chalets;♦ a luxury motorhome ensuite site; and♦ we also manage a lovely 2 bedroom self contained timber cottage located on an adjoining property. Why not experience a farmstay with a difference? - Come and join us each morning and experience hand feeding and patting our friendly alpacas, sheep, cows, miniature donkey and goats, not to mention our dog and 2 cats. Heimat Chalets is a private and secluded holiday retreat - yet easy travelling to almost anywhere in southern Tasmania! Don't stay in a city hotel that's just like any other - Instead make Heimat Chalets your beautiful farmstay country base for exploring Hobart and its surrounds, including New Norfolk and Tasmania's extraordinarily beautiful Derwent Valley and Central Highlands. Why not stay a night or two while travelling on the Rivers Run Touring Route on your way from Hobart to Strahan. And all of this just 45 minutes from Hobart, 8 minutes from New Norfolk and only 50 minutes from Hobart Airport.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A beautiful farmstay experience with excellent facilities and the most wholesome hosts. We stumbled across Heimat Chalets trying to find a place for our motorhome for the night; Katie & Bill were so accommodating and truly make it feel so homely. The farm itself is picturesque, so lovely to wander around, with gorgeous variety of animals which we got to feed up in the morning. The accomodation was excellent; clean with a great rustic vibe. I loved the communal house with the fireplace and games/books. I also appreciated that the motorhome sites come with their own ensuite and kitchen sink facilities to save on using ours for the night, such a treat. The lovely fresh flowers in the ensuite did not go unnoticed; you can tell the hosts take great pride in their place. Wish we could have stayed much longer. Highly recommended and will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: If arriving from the north, go through New Norfolk first. We took a shortcut and it took us off...

This place is amazing. Beautiful countryside. We booked the powered site for our motorhome. It has a private ensuite with it and was absolutely perfect. Katy started the fire in the common area (gorgeous timber cottage) before we arrived. Best views and Katy let us feed the alpacas with her and walked us around to meet some of their other animals. A must stay at place. Just watch coco the alpaca. He is a bit cheeky.😁

Our stay at Heimat chalets was very good and exceeded our expectations. The chalets are modern, warm and had everything we needed. The beds were more comfortable than my own bed ! The view from all windows is truly magical and we very much enjoyed our family trip.

We booked in for one night but ended up staying 2 as it was just that lovely. We were staying in a camper van, and Bill and Katy’s powered sites provide private ensuites, laundry facilities, but also a camp kitchen with barbecues, perfect for having a break from the confines of the van. They were such great hosts, showing our 6month old daughter the property, and letting her feed the alpacas and get up close to the beautiful highland cattle. The place has great vistas of the mountains, and easy access to Mt Field National Park (incredible, one of the gems of Tasmania) and ski slopes in winter. The open fire and stars and night were the best! And it’s only about 40mins from Hobart. A must stay for a weekend relax or as part of your Tasmania road trip adventure!

What a spectacular place, so peaceful and beautiful. Katy and Bill are very special people and so helpful and friendly. We had the best weekend ever and the animals made it more special. I loved the weekend and so close to a sweet country town, New Norfolk. Thanks for your kindness and hospitality.

Our family of 5 stayed in one of the chalets for 2 nights, which comes with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. The chalet was very clean, well maintained and comfortable. Katie is a very passionate, friendly and generous host and we totally enjoyed doing the animal feeding with her at 8+ in the morning. I especially love the highland cattle! Location wise, the chalet is 10 mins drive from the elbeareat supermarket, 50 mins drive from Hobart central, for us, the location works well for us as it’s on the way to Mount Field National Park. Highly recommend the place to anyone visiting Tasmania!

We hired an Apollo Motorhome and booked an En-suite Site. Heimat Chalets are just gorgeous! The en-suite was clean and well appointed. Not that we needed them, but there were BBQ & Laundry facilities available. There are also two cabins available for those who don’t have campers. There’s also a cute little rustic shack complete with fireplace that serves as a communal area. It doesn’t have power, but that adds to the charm; we played board games and drank wine by candlelight. Katy was a beautiful host and the farm animals are too cute. Highly recommend.

A lovely place to visit. Despite being there on a cold Winter's night the chalet was very cosy and well stocked with everything we needed and more. It was lovely to be able to wander the property and visit the friendly animals (Highlander cattle, donkeys, goat, alpacas and horses and more). The owners are exceptionally friendly, welcoming and generous. We'll definitely be back for another stay.

Wow wow WOW!!! My fiancee and I decided last minute to look for somewhere to stay outside of Hobart, saw the amazing rural and bush settings in the photos of Heimat Chalets online and took a chance. The best chance ever!!! The hosts were an incredibly lovely couple, warm and friendly who couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome even though we showed up hours after check in. Cosy chalets, outdoor bbq cabins, pine forests? That's just the beginning at this hidden wonderland. Say hello each morning to genuine highland cattle, donkeys, alpacas and very friendly guinea fowl, with a backdrop of foggy mountains above and lush green valley floors below. Comfortable beds, with electric blankets - which was amazing because it actually snowed in the morning - as well as kitchenette and dining facilities. Very very happy we choose to stay here, definitely planning a return visit!!
