Glen Derwent is a delightful historic property. We stayed in the self-contained Tank Cottage, which was very private and comfortable. Breakfast overlooking the garden was amazing, as was the afternoon tea in the Tea Rooms when we arrived. Liz was a charming hostess and was happy to show us around the house and gardens. A wonderful peaceful place to stay.

My husband and I spent a very enjoyable week in Tank Cottage, a very comfortable self contained little house, complete with two king sized beds, that could be separated and a single, a couch and kitchenette with sink cupboard and small fridge, bathroom with toilet and bath/shower and more than adequately heating, with a radiator, wood fire and electric blankets on the beds. Also we had a very nice sized TV complete with youtube and netflix. Liz very kindly lent me a couple of saucepans, an electric fry pan and various utensils so that I was able to buy food and cook it, which was essential for us, as we are on a special diet, which greatly restricts our eating out choices. It was a home away from home for us, with chickens and ducks roaming freely, as we live on a farm. We found the accommodation to be a good distance from the road, so no traffic noise and no noise from the other accommodations. The only sleep disturbance came from scratching possums in the night, but it was not an issue for us. The linen was clean, as were all the rooms and our hosts were very friendly and approachable. We felt very much at home and were sad to have to leave. We would definitely stay there again in the future.

Exquisite garden and heritage buildings make for the perfect setting for Devonshire teas in idyllic Tea Rooms with THE best scones! Thanks to the energetic generous Liz and crew. Being a locL I have not needed to stay but must play a game of croquet one day!

Our friend recently turned 50 and arranged a long weekend in Tasmania for ten of us. We had 2 nights at Glen Derwent as we were going to the Agrarian Kitchen for a full day course. Liz at Glen Derwent made us very welcome. The house has a rustic charm given its age. The bedrooms were all very comfortable. We had access to the kitchen and living rooms with fires. It was perfect for a group stay.

A group of us spent a wonderful afternoon having high tea. The staff were amazing, it was quite a warm day, we were offered complimentary cool drinks in additions to the High Tea with all the trimmings. The gardens were lovely. Even though there were quite a few diners on the day we were made feel very welcome. Great day .

The accomodation is comfortable, clean and functional with a rustic charm and I'd highly recommend it to anyone staying in the area. The house has a very interesting history which the owners are happy to share. Added bonus is a delicious full english breakfast.

Found this colonial home and gardens to be quite charming despite the fact that it's winter and the gardens not at their best, and renovations a 'work in progress'. The enclosed verandah was sunny and warm with the fire going and scones were cooked the moment we sat down. So hot out of the oven. Found the service a little slow but got very busy. All in all a lovely old world experience. Must return in the summer months. Also many outbuildings to wander through taking a step back into the 1800's.

We were very thankful to be referred to Glen Derwent as it was getting late and we were having trouble finding accomodation we liked. We stayed in the cottage which was warm and very comfy and the king bed was 5/5. Liz is a great cook and a very kind person. Her scones and homemade raspberry jam are amazing. Liz and her husband are gradually restoring the heritage building. We have very fond memories of our stay there when we visited Tasmania.

We had Mother’s Day Devonshire tea at Glen Derwent in a gorgeous setting - lovely gardens, beautiful house, stables and cottages in the grounds on the banks of the River Derwent. Mum was in a wheelchair and was wheeled in the side door to the enclosed verandah which was decked out with antique tables and chairs, fine china. Other rooms were equally beautiful. It was a very busy day but Liz and her helpful staff happily served freshly baked (just out of the oven) scones with lashings of jam and cream, seemingly bottomless coffees (plunger) and teas (loose leaf tea in teapots) all for $10 a head. The disabled toilet had all Mum needed (if you have difficulty walking it might be a little far but since mum was wheeled there it was fine). Our Maxi-taxi had let us down and we arrived 1/2 hr late which must have caused difficulties on such a busy day but Liz took it all in her stride with charm and grace. Thank you for a lovely outing.😍😍😍
