Located in the heart of Tasmania, the Great Lake Hotel is the perfect place for a hearty, modern country-pub meal, a place to stay for a relaxing getaway or somewhere simply to stock up on fuel and supplies. Chef Paul Foreman brings a wealth of experience and passion to the Great Lake Hotel. Having worked extensively around the country and internationally, in top-rated restaurants through to local institutions, Paul’s love of local produce has brought him to Tasmania’s Central Highlands where fish, game and the freshest of ingredients are close at hand. We also offer a variety of single, double and family rooms all with ensuites, and some with self-contained cooking facilities. A light Continental Breakfast is provided in ensuite rooms, with linen and towels provided in all rooms.

After a long drive from Freycinet Peninsula, we opted on the spur of the moment to park our campervan on one of the power sites adjacent to the Great Lakes Hotel. A mere $20 for the powered site and access to hot, hot showers (showers included in the price). Toilets are only available in the hotel so you do need to be self sufficient. We decided to eat at the Great Lakes Hotel, again spur of the moment. The ambience, the quality of the food, the roaring fire and the great service (Renee and Truman) left a lasting impact. Glad that we stumbled onto it, otherwise it would have meant a long drive to Deloraine!

Living an hours drive away I had been keen to visit the Great Lake Hotel for some time. Had some friends staying from interstate, so saw it as a good opportunity to visit. We travelled up about 3 weeks ago during school holidays, we were all impressed with the menu, quality of food & service. Our experience had been so positive I returned again Sunday 2nd May with three other friends. Once again the menu and quality of food was excellent, however there was a real problem with the service. Shortly after seating we ordered drinks and some garlic bread for starters. Thirty minutes went by and nothing. What was concerning was there was ample staff behind the bar area but no one seemed to be doing anything except wondering around. I eventually I approached the waiter and we received

We had a very tasty lunch at the Great Lake Hotel. The food was great, it came out very quickly and was very good but the standout of the lunch for us was our waitress named Jemma. Jemma was professional, friendly and very attentive from our first greeting as we came in the door to a warm goodbye as we left. It appeared to be a busy lunch time and Jemma went around the room treating every patron with the same prompt great friendly service we received.

My wife and I holiday regularly to the area and rarely miss a chance to get to the hotel for dinner or lunch. The food is great and the staff are friendly! Definitely stop in during a trip to the highlands.
