It is a long time since I visited here and the hotel (or at least the restaurant) has undergone a huge transformation. The restaurant is quite large and was very busy when we (3 couples) visited for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Fortunately we had booked and, given the distance to get here from any direction, I would strongly advise it. Most main courses were less than $30 and they were well presented and tasty. It is well worth-while to plan a lunch stop here if travelling between Hobart and the N-W coast
We have been visiting the Great Lake Hotel a couple of times a year for a long time. This was our first time since the renovations, we were so impressed. The styling still reflects the highland pub style and everything is fresh. The staff were terrific and the meals tasty.
We stopped in here for lunch en-route from Launceston to Tarraleah. The open fire was very welcome on a chilly 3C day!. The staff were warm and friendly also and the view from the dining area across the Great Lake is amazing. We had the meat lovers pizza to share which really filled a couple of cold empty stomachs! Would definitely return here again
Under new management and after a great freshen up, the Great Lake Hotel is Smokin’. Warm & attentive hospitality. Great food with generous serves and fresh presentation. Thanks for genuine service James, Will & Jason. Watch this venue. Plans for MTB and walking around Great Lake with accommodation for all groups. Glad we came. We won’t be shy about coming back.
