Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Best meal of our around Tassie trip. Great service and excellent food. Will be back on our next trip from Qld. Drunken chicken breasts, lamb shanks, spicy squid and all three desserts were faultless. Recommended to all.

Undeniably the best food we have eaten on our holiday….and also the best food we have eaten in a restaurant for quite some time. We wish we lived here so we could keep coming. The service was amazing as well. If I could give more than 5 stars I would

Stopped in for lunch, greeted pleasantly and shown to our table. Ordered lamb shank for me and my partner ordered steak, chips and salad, together with a couple of drinks. Food was pleasant enough, nothing special. The biggest shock came when I paid the bill $101 for 2 meals and 2 drinks, wow. Been once, no need to return.

Stayed just one night. Room toasty warm when arrived and electric blanket was on. Good linen and comfortable bed. NO hair-dryer though. Toiletries all supplied. Continental breakfast in room. Choice of cereals and bread to toast. Choice of jams and Vegemite. Plenty of food. Had a meal in the restaurant. Seafood bisque was good and tasty. Ordered the steak medium rare. Came more on the raw side. The centre was luke warm and the garlic butter did not even melt.

Best steak ever - and I’ve had quite a few around the world! I usually have their lamb shanks - as you just can’t find better - but decided on the steak this time…and am so very glad I did! Fabulous staff Great place Worth the drive and price. Will be back again - just don’t know how to choose! Husband loves the Wallaby patties and has had them many times now!

We didn’t stay in the hotel accommodation because we had a camper van, only a $10 fee to park the van for the night (non powered) - great price! We did though have an amazing meal in the hotel and the staff were lovely!! So lovely and toasty sitting by the fire drinking warmed spiced cider!!! Perfect for the Tassie weather!

Huge fireplace, delicious food, great conversation with other travellers and super friendly staff. The steak was perfect, seafood chowder delicious and the apple pie nothing short of divine. I would give the ciabatta and cheese fondue a miss. Well worth the drive from Bothwell although we had to be careful of all the wallabys, possums etc.. on the drive back in the dark.

Love eating at this place. Beautiful food, great service. However today after a 40klm drive for lunch arrived to find the area had lost power. This is of course not the fault of the hotel, and far more damaging for the hotel than for us, however it would be great if they had a back up plan in place for such times. Why no generator? Why no BBQ? Why no cold lunch offerings such as Ploughman's Lunch or salads? Especially as we were told that 60 people had booked for lunch. As phone numbers are required when booking, why no attempt at notification? Sadly we had to travel to Derwent Bridge for a lesser experience. We will be back to the Great Lake Hotel, but today could have been handled better.

We spent 3 nights at Miena so my husband could go fly fishing and Great Lakes Hotel was the best situated property. Despite an underwhelming external appearance our king Lakeview room was simple, spotlessly clean, comfy king bed with superior linen and heated blanket and Dyson room heater and the shower was hot with good pressure. The bar always had a roaring fire and the food in the restaurant was very good indeed and the staff very pleasant. The on-site shop had all the basics. The downside was our room happened to have an interconnecting door to potentially make it a family room but the acoustic insulation was non existent! There were only 2 coat hooks and no hangers or other hooks. A heated towel rail would have meant you could dry your towels after a shower. The hotel
